Absolutely love Hachi Hana.  They're so friendly when you walk in, the sushi chefs greet you as you walk in with a friendly hello and a thank you/goodbye when you leave.  Love the spicy dynamite rolls and yam rolls.  Gotta love how fresh everything is!  And when in doubt, bento box B :-)

Great service which I expected from reading other yelp reviews. However the food was meh.

Perhaps I didn't have the greatest experience and should go back with more people so that more items could be tried but for now I think I'll keep checking out places on Lonsdale.

This is the best sushi in Vancouver. It has all your regular expectation plus the restaurant also has specialty rolls that are great. I recommend the mango roll or sushi shooters.

Used to be my favorite sushi spot in Van when I lived on the North Shore. Probably still is, considering I moved 3 years ago and didn't return until a couple of days ago.

Staff is always very friendly, they probably didn't remember me but I kinda felt special :) They really take good care of you, refilling this delicious hot Genmaicha  tea(well I assume it's Genmaicha). Music is generally classical music, not too loud and people are pretty calm too.

Ingredients always taste fresh and delicate. Not as "oh my god, so AMAZING I'm going to run naked in the street because I feel so good" as in my souvenirs but still very good.

I used to order the Dinner box B all the time. You get a lot of amazing different stuff for only 16$. I am usually not a big fan of dynamite rolls but their big dynamite roll is awesome. It's so yummy and so freakin huge!

Would win the 5th star by having more creative and fun rolls for example.

A sweet little sushi spot on central Lonsdale with smiley, attentive staff and decent Japanese - great for a casual lunch!

We came on Thursday, 11:30am and around noon, it began to fill up with lots of people working in the area. We had the ebi roll, Maki combo and tuna sashimi - all were good. It seemed like a local favourite with a bunch of regulars.

When you eat at Hachi Hana, you get this feeling like you're in Japan. It's cozy and the place is buzzing with conversations at lunch time. The meal is served Japanese style and size.

The sushi at this place isn't like the ones you can't fit into your mouth, so you don't have to bite into it and end up making a mess. They only serve wild sockeye salmon. And green tea is served in small porcelain cups.

North Vancouver is pretty lucky to have two great sushi joints in the same block!

This is hands down the best sushi on the North Shore.

The fish is always fresh. They don't do farmed salmon. They even have great selections of special rolls:

Dragon Roll is best tuna roll I have ever had.
Special Vegetable Roll is a must try.

The place gets PACKED at lunch (12). So you will want to get there about 5-10 minutes before or 5-10 minutes after. Same thing with dinner.

I have two favourite Japanese restaurants and this is the other one. I've been coming here since ten years ago and I've always enjoyed each experience. The restaurant is small and the seating's pretty limited, so you'll probably have to factor in a bit of a wait before you get seated.

The review below me wrote that the special vegetable roll is good. I personally didn't like it too much but I ordered it thinking it was this special vegetable roll that I LOVE there (but couldn't remember what the name of the roll was! I was out Vancouver for a while). I found out later that the roll is their yam roll! Haha! I thought it would be a special roll because everything about the yam roll is awesome! :-) Unlike other J. restaurants, the yam roll isn't just a tempura yam wrapped around some rice and seaweed. It's got mushrooms, sprouts and something else in it and is soooooo delicious. The sprouts really work well with the tempura yam. YUM YUM. I definitely recommend the yam roll if you go there! It's my favourite thing about this place.

The reason I'm giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 was that I found that the last time I went there, there seemed to be too much rice and not as much sashimi in their rolls. I hope it was a one time thing... They used to pack in their fish and have the right amount of rice previously..

Driving back to Washington State from Whistler, we stopped at Hachi Hana for dinner after reading the Yelp reviews.

    We had:
Tuna sashimi - fresh, delicious, loved the shredded daikon and watercress on the side.
Chopped scallop hand roll - this is one of my go-to favorites, and Hachi Hana didn't disappoint. Loved the creamy avocado nestled inside.
Hachi-Hana special roll - OMG, ORGASMIC!! Avocado, smoked salmon and prawn in perfect harmony. I loved that half the roll had the avocado on the outside (the other half had the smoked salmon on the outside).
Tempura prawn roll - another go-to, reliable favorite. Delicious.

It was a bit crowded (we came on the end of the dinner rush), but service was great.

Oh - and surprisingly affordable for great sushi in Vancouver - we paid about $35 for dinner for two.

My wife loves sushi! (I personally just like it).  In my opinion this place offers one of the better qualities around on the North shore with incredible value.  The setting itself is very cute and intimate.  The chefs and the waiting staff are genuine and hard working.  Their positives far outweigh their challenges.
I would highly recommend this place for sushi lovers.

Quality of food is fresh and noticeably high quality.
    Service is cute and efficient.
    Ambiance is decent and intimate.

    Keep up the great work.

Saturday night and all is quiet on Lonsdale. I want sushi and there are so many sushi restos here... I wanted to try this place because my boss told me about it. He LOVES food, lives for food, so I thought what the hey.

The place is packed when we arrive and it's either sit at the table beside the door or sit at the bar. I love sitting at sushi bars. I like to watch them prepare the rolls, slice the fish... They have a tiny sushi set that took all of me not to touch it and play with it. It's so cute!

This isn't a cheap place. It's not a place that you can get a bento for the same as a McMeal. This place is so worth it though. It is the best sushi place I have been in North Van, possibly in the Lower Mainland, but I have to go to a bunch to refresh myself.

Anyhoo... We ordered a salmon (it's sockeye) sashimi, a beef sukiyaki don and a sushi combo (california roll, 2 pieces of salmon nigiri and 2 pieces of tuna nigiri). To drink, I have a coke and my fiance has a beer. I have never gotton anything for free from a sushi place--- this place gave us free grilled mystery fish for ordering a beer. Hah, imagine that. It was delicious. At first, I thought it was chicken--- it was nicely grilled and doused in ponzu sauce.

The sashimi came. No weird texture, just a clean salmon taste. The beef sukiyaki don had the clear noodles that I love so much! I am not sure if it's supposed to, but ours had a lot of liquid in it. I really like it. Lots of beef and veggies. I hate shredded seaweed that gets sprinkled on dishes sometimes. Eww. I picked it off and put it on the empty sashimi plate. The sushi combo was huge. Again, perfect salmon. I can't eat tuna... the fiance did, but we ended up leaving one piece behind. Besides that lone soldier, we ate everything else. I wanted to order a gyoza or an agedashi tofu, but that would have been way too much food. I left there feeling very content.

The service was awesome. They kept asking if everything was okay and they brought the dishes in the least intrusive manner... they were so polite. I didn't get any tea, but it's not like I asked for it. There seemed to be a lot of regulars. I want to be one of them.

Had a great meal here.  Sushi was very good and quick.  Our daughter approved of it, even ate the unagi.

The people next to us got the bbq salmon skin....have to try that next time, looked very good.

OK, I've now tried every Japanese restaurant on Lonsdale and this is the best.  It's clean (can't say that for many others), service is really nice and professional, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.  It's not the cheapest, but definitely the best overall experience.

I dare anyone to find me a better J restaurant on Lonsdale!

Of the four sushi restaurants I have tried in the Upper Lonsdale area, Hachi Hana is by far my favourite. The staff is polite, the restaurant is clean and the food is good - and well priced.

They do all the basics well, like edamame, miso (in fact this is the only miso soup I like, period), agedashi tofu, gyoza, etc. They also have some interesting sounding rolls, but I'm not adventurous enough to try the ones with raw fish...yet!
