Port Orchard, WA
After moving to Port Orchard in December, I started seeing Brianne. I have to drive over an hour to see her, but she's incredible. Not only did she fix some mistakes from my last stylist, but I've received loads of compliments directly after leaving her care. Such a great stylist!
This location is tiny (especially compared to the Ballard location), but it's got a great funky vibe. The stylists there are good, and you can people watch/judge wanderers of Fremont from behind the safety of big windows. The parking is TERRIBLE, but whatever. -

I've yet to find a stylist in this town (over three years) that gets me. So I was in the mood for a haircut (it's been 6 months) and we had some time to kill, so I popped into habitude to see if they could take me - they could - this was nice, but in hindsight I now know why.
It all started out okay, I was just going to get a trim. But I had been thinking about getting different colors on the tips of my hair. I told the stylist this. She seemed to understand and started talking about how to do it - at which point it was obvious she didn't get it. She wanted to color a chunk of hair underneath so you wouldn't see roots... ummm- it's all roots except for the bottom 2 -3 inches which would have a few pieces of different color hair. I pulled out my phone, found a picture of what I was talking about and she said "oh yeah yeah yeah." and proceeded to talk me out of the different colors - said it would be too hard and we should do just one. OKAY, but that's half the fun... Wish I would have cancelled the whole thing at this moment. But I went along for the crummy ride. She started bleaching as if she were going to do highlights except for she left very little of my true hair and the whole doing just the tip part must have eluded her somehow because she did everything but the top two inches of root - maybe she's dyslexic.
I have confused hair: part curly, part wavy, part straight. Not easy hair by any means. I asked her if she could cut it in a way that I could wear it curly/wavy. She said sure and mumbled something about layers. When she was done doing whatever the f she wanted with my hair because it certainly wasn't what I asked for, she began drying it and styling it - blow drying it straight. WHA? I would think if a client asks you to cut their hair so they can wear it wavy/curly you would style it that way too? But perhaps that was too obvious. In the end I looked like a freakin' my little pony - which is almost an insult to the poor toy.
And to boot if her cut and styling skills weren't a bad enough experience, she smelled like alcohol and cigarettes. Blech. -

There is nothing worse than when your hair looked tons better before you went to the salon. I asked for Brianne (after reading the Yelp reviews) and I really really regret it. I should have clued in when I asked that my hair not be cut wispy and fine, that I like a thicker chunkier layer and she said it couldn't be done. She thumbed through some pictures in a mag and I showed her what a "chunk" of hair looked like and she said it was just product, not cutting. Now I have no definite layers but layers all over the place that it looks like one thick mass. I also said not too much off the bottom, she said one inch and I said fine but now I'm missing about 2 inches. I left thinking, I don't like my hair but I will give it a while so I adjust to it and put "product" in but products don't help a terrible cut. I definitely hate it and my husband was trying to figure out why my hair was different lengths all over the place. I guess I should have said something when she brought out the razor and started shearing my hair to bits but it was too late. My hair is a disaster now, just in time for my trip where I was hoping to get in some nice pictures. What a fiasco. I just wanna cry.

Awful. I just got the hands-down worst haircut of my life at this salon. I'm just sick about it and can't imagine anything worse. I asked for a simple trim on my long, straight hair. The stylist held up about an inch of hair and we agreed that she should take off that much. She sectioned my hair and did the appropriate trim - just on the back. Then she started layering the hell out of my hair. She was hacking away with such speed that I barely had time to stop her. I told her that I don't like many layers (I didn't have any at all when I came in) and she said she needed to even it out. When she got to my face, I stopped her and said that I don't want many layers around my face and just want to gently trim the bits around my face. She said ok and said she would keep it all well below my chin. She grabbed my hair and started cutting. All of a sudden, a HUGE chunk on the left side of my face fell down and she had cut my hair up to my eye! The chunk she cut was totally out of proportion and didn't match up with the rest of the haircut at all. I specifically told her NO LAYERS - KEEP IT LONG AND STRAIGHT - JUST A TRIM. I couldn't believe she had just hacked off such a huge piece of my hair. She let out a little gasp when it happened so it was clearly a mistake. The haircut is terrible. She knew it was terrible because she was trying to fix it by adding more and more layers. I finally had to stop her and tell her to just let it be.
So, my lovely, long, straight hair is now ruined. She took off at least 7 inches and left me with a mullet. It isn't even like she gave me a decent, layered cut that just differs from what I wanted. The cut she gave me is awful. There are all sorts of choppy bits around my head that don't blend or match up at all. It is going to take me years to get my hair back to what it was. I'm so angry. I left the salon in tears and they barely seemed to care.
Beyond the bad haircut, I was surprised at the low level of service in the salon. They didn't offer to get me a drink (until I asked), left me sitting with my head in the wash basin for 10 minutes, and kept interrupting my service with gossip and questions about where to find things.
I'm sick that I ever went to this salon and will NOT be going back. I just wish it wasn't going to take a year to get my hair back. -

I went in for a wax and the girl who worked on me was really nice, but she decided that my already thick brows need to be "more natural" and left some areas to grow out some. I didn't ask for this, but it seemed reasonable enough at the time, at least not enough to complain about in my post-waxing haze.
However, over 2 weeks the short ones grew out in a really weird way and my eyebrows sort of looked like they had eyelashes. And I realized my eyebrows have been the same shape for years and I kind of liked it. So I ended up going to another place this time and having her shape them back the way they were.
I might try Habitude for some spa services -- the people were really nice and other people seem to like it a lot. I could have said NO to the "more natural brows" thing, to be fair. But for now my impression is just so-so. -

I've been to Habitude in Ballard for massages and facials and have always been pleased, but I chose to go to Fremont for my hair because they get better reviews on Yelp for salon services.
I just saw Amanda for a partial foil and left really happy. She was fun to talk to and really took my requests into consideration. When I get my next cut, I plan to go back to her despite the pricey-ness of the salon because she is obviously skilled and I like the cozy atmosphere.
Some extra details of note: If you bleach for blonde-ness, you'll probably need toner (which I got) to avoid brassiness, but be aware of the $25 extra charge. They are all super nice here and I was given the yummy aveda tea to feel welcome, but I received none of the little frills they have at the Ballard location--hand massages, trail mix, neck rubs, etc. Am I too spoiled? Maybe! But I'm okay with that. -

Dru is the best! My haircut this morning was a highlight of my day. This nice little salon is located at an easy-to-find corner in Fremont, with a calm Northwestern decor inside (think echoes of the Ballard location, but less logger-like). I've been going to Aveda salons for years, but this is really one of my favorites.
As other posters mentioned, there isn't any deliberate product-pushing. I usually buy something when I go, but only because Dru uses it on my hair and I love it. The prices, at least for a haircut, don't seem bad to me; I paid $50 for one that I've already received several compliments for. That's cred to my stylist, not to me....
Very friendly people, without an over-the-top polished salon atmosphere. After all, it IS Fremont, folks! If you're looking for a fantastic haircut that's worth the reasonable price in a cozy location where the conversation is always easy, then go here. And maybe after you can do a little shopping and watch yourself tossing your fabulous hair in the windows...or maybe that's just me. -

Viola is the best! I have gone to her twice now and she really listens to what you want and does an amazing job. I am very particular about having my hair really blond and not yellow-ish and she has done a great job to get it just how I like it. She did a great job cutting my hair too. They aren't pushy at all about products. It is a little pricey ($195 for full foil, cut, & tone) but it's completely worth it.
I love this place!Listed in: My Neighborhood

My stylist left. The girl they recommended to replace my fabulous, friendly, extremely talented hairstylist, was sub-par to say the least: fresh out of school, and honestly kind-of butchered my hair.
This was well over a year ago and my hair has since found it's happy place elsewhere, but I should add to my last review that not all junior stylists are created equal.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Habitude is the type of salon that you go to when you plan to really pamper your hair and don't mind investing money in that process. After frying my hair a few too many times, I decided to tone down the color with lowlights and see what I could do to rehab the condition without sacrificing the length.
After my appointment with Heidi, I'm happy to say that the condition of my hair has improved far beyond my expectations. The combination of highlights and lowlights she gave me put my overall color exactly where I wanted it. She also did a shine treatment that went a long way to improving the look and condition. And she spared me the lecture about my split ends which I appreciated. She was personable and easygoing without being overly chatty.
The ambiance is pleasant if a little kitschy, the location is great. I didn't get a hard sell on their product line like I usually do at the Aveda salons. My service cost about $150 which was the upper end of my budget but they were up front about the cost.
If you're looking into saving money, definitely ask about getting your hair done by one of their students. -

Heidi does miracles with long, fine hair! I have never had such a beautiful haircut-- its been about 10 weeks (too long, I know!) since she gave me my first haircut and it STILL looks great!
Thank you Heidi!!!! -

i got a complimentary haircut by one of their students in the advanced training program. ive always wanted to try habitude in ballard out, so i took up on this offer from their sister location. i accidentally slept in so i rushed there, but the place was easy to find. yay for convenient locations! aveda and bumble and bumble products lined the walls, and it was really cute inside. i didnt need to hurry, because they had scheduling glitch and they were running 30 min late. i didnt mind too much, because they had a relaxing atmosphere and when my student finally came to greet me, she was nice and the reason was genuine.
normally i dont like to talk too much during hair services because it seems so fake sometimes. however, we talked about random stuff pretty effortlessly and it was nice. when she wasnt sure, she got one of the instructors there and went over it with them. even though its a small place, they had 3 instructors, creating almost 1-1 setting. and they all were very friendly and easy going. big plus.
i enjoyed their service and the fact that they really listened to me. i got the cut i wanted. i'll def come back again, esp for their bang trims since... i finally can admit to myself i cant cut my own bangs. -

I literally JUST walked in the door and am already writing this review for Habitude....hands down the best haircut I've ever had. Maybe part of this can be attributed to the fact that I tend to drift towards the cheaper places, but one of the things I appreciate about Habitude is the fact that I can see a "Crux Academy" student for a stellar $27 haircut (where "elite stylist" prices are upwards of $80, according to their website) and still receive wonderful treatment. As soon as I walked in the door at 8:45 a.m. I was offered coffee as they directed me to their waiting area in the middle of the salon. All of the stylists and staff were really friendly for a Saturday am, and I love love love the way this place is decorated! Also, I appreciated the fact that I did not feel pressured to buy every type of styling product created by Aveda or Bumble and Bumble.
Only thing that was a little awkward: instead of me writing my tip on the receipt after ringing up the credit card, the lady at the front desk just asked me if I "wanted to leave a gratuity for Grace." Not to toot my own horn, but I think she was shocked at the amount I left...it's not everyday that I'd give someone a 40% tip, but the price was right and I've never been treated so well at a salon. Thanks, Habitude (and Grace!) -

I popped in because I needed some volumizing spray from Aveda, and they have plenty of stickers on their windows for Aveda. I liked the feeling of the place, earthy and modern. The stylist rang me up and wished me goodbye. I'll have to check out their services sometime.

This salon is beautiful - it is second to none in atmosphere. Overpriced somewhat, but Aveda products line the walls so you'd expect no less. While you may pay a pretty penny for the services within this salon, you will also find an experience few get to enjoy; plus, they have many spa services availible as well.

Viola is awesome! She fixed my sister's horrible hair that was like a baseball helmet. She now has lots of layers and her thick hair is now thinned reasonably. Her hair looks so much nicer now. As for my haircut, I love how she didn't thin it too much or anything of that sort. She kept asking me how I liked my hair and kept asking what I wanted and all that stuff. Although the haircut is more expensive then what I usually pay for my haircut, my sister and I was beyond satisfied with the outcome of it. I would definitely come back here whenever I'm in Seattle again.

So, I tried Habitute since it's within walking distance and I'm usually a fan of aveda salons. And the first time I went it was great. I got a good cut, it was quick, they gave me plenty of tea and didn't charge too much. And a few months later, I went back for another cut and highlights and had a somewhat disappointing experience. First, like every other stylist I've had in Seattle, the woman I saw the first time was no longer working there and so they gave me to someone "with similar experience". First I explained that I wanted really natural looking subtle highlights. And she worked away putting foils in and let them sit, and then took another client and left me alone for what seemed like a really long time. Much longer than the 20 minutes or so she claimed it needed. And then she took them out and they seemed pretty light to me, way lighter than I was hoping for. And I think I must have made some weird faces cause she asked me what was wrong, and I tried to politely explain that I was actually looking for something a little more natural looking. And she said, oh, well, it's been so long since you've had highlights, you're just not used to it. Ummmm, that's not the answer you're supposed to give! So, then she went on to cut my hair, which is really like the easiest hair to cut - straight, not too thick, nothing fancy. And I'm pretty sure it was lopsided when she said she was done. I never make people work on it after they claim to be done, but I had to with her. I was really sad since the first girl was really great! So, I guess it's hit or miss here.

I agree with a lot of what Angie and Elise said. I'm generally a fan of Aveda products, and was really excited to try Habitude because it stays open late and it's in my neighborhood. Perfect for after work visits! I stopped in one Saturday as a walk in and they were really awesome about fitting me in. The girl who cut my hair was really sweet and young. I asked her for a short hair cut similar to the style I had, and was specific to say it shouldn't be as short as hers. She even asked me to repeat myself "Not as short as mine, right?" It must have been Opposite Day though because I got exactly that, except with bangs a bit longer than hers. I was really upset when I left because a) it wasn't what I asked for and b) I tend to dress like a 13-year-old boy and need a little hair to balance that. I was really upset. However, everyone at work and my friends seem to love it, so at least I can say she did a good job. It just wasn't what I asked for.
