Habit's new location in the Atrium is a great addition to the neighbourhood. I was never a fan of their Pandora St. location, it was just too hip and uncomfortably austere for me. However, their new cafe in the Atrium is much more comfortable, not quite warm, but definitely welcoming.
I work just up the block so I appreciate having a close source of good croissants and good coffee. Habit on Yates has unfortunately continued their Pandora St. practice of serving lattes and cappuccinos in glasses rather than ceramic mugs. Like I said, hip, not comfortable. However I am now having macchiatos much more often than lattes, and Habit uses ceramic mugs for machiatos, so it's now somebody else's problem.
Their croissants are from Fol Epi in Vic West whose croissants are in my opinion tied with Bubby Rose's for second best in Victoria (no small accomplishment).
One more thing: all my talk of austeriy and of coffees served in glasses could lead one to the assumption that the staff might be a bit of pain (think Cafe Fantastico), but nothing could be further from the truth. Every time I go into Habit I am greeted with an honestly friendly smile and a helpful atitude that woould have me coming back even if they didn't do such a fantastic job of making coffee.Listed in: Good Coffee in southwest BC
