I found myself with a little time to kill while running errands in Kits, so I pulled out my Yelp app to find a good but quick breakfast place nearby. I didn't want something fancy, just a decent place where I could comfortably sit for 20-30 minutes and enjoy a cup of coffee and something savory.
This is how I found Gypsy Rose. I ALMOST didn't go in after pulling up for parking and seeing that all the tables outside were filled. It must be packed inside, I thought. Still I figured why not just try it out. Surprisingly, it was a loud group of friends that had chosen to sit outside but there wasn't a single person inside. Perfect, I thought. Although, odd to find a place without a line out the door around brunch time. Again, I became slightly hesitant....
As any good crepes place has, they offered a fairly long list of both sweet and savory options. If you know me by now, you know I don't opt for the sweet stuff. I picked the ham and cheese and tomato and egg, which was good, but next time I might even do the spinach, tomato, basil, and feta which is what the owner suggested.
She was so friendly and sweet. We chatted for several minutes and then suddenly four more tables came in. She was just as friendly and helpful with each of them, while being efficient and multi-tasking along with her husband and son behind the counter to prepare all the meals.
One point lost on the self-serve station not being kept up. The milk thermos for the coffee was empty, and the ice water also needed to be refilled. I don't mind asking for that, but would be great if that was something they were paying attention to before the place got busy and several of us waited around for the line to die down so we could ask for some.
The crepes are large and filling, and I don't know why people are saying they're overpriced. They range from about $6-9 -- not sure where you find them cheaper but would like to know! -

Loved it! Small family run business. I had one of the crepes (can't remember the name) and it was delicious and well made. Worth a visit!

While walking along W 4th to get to a different restaurant, we decided that we had gone far enough and stopped at Gypsy Rose.
I have had a hankering for crepes ever since Vegas. I am constantly on the hunt for the crepe I fell in love with. So far nothing, but I have to have crepes now. I need them. So we ordered two americanos and two crepes. I had a sweet crepe and my fiance had a savoury one. They have like over forty different kinds of crepes.
My americano is good, but I am no coffee afficianado. I put Splenda in my coffee if I see it... this time I put regular ol' white sugar and plenty of cream. I like it as pale as my skin. I guess it's not really coffee anymore...
I love watching people make food. The world fades away... I watch the lady pour the batter on the hot hot griddle and shape a large crepe. She pours sugar and cinnamon all over it... she folds it over and spreads strawberry jam and drops of cottage cheese all over it. She fold it over again and voila... I think it's number 13... the cottage cheese was all melty and the sugar and the cinnamon mixed with the jam. It was kind of small though. My fiance's was huge! His had cheese, ham and eggs and tomatoes. It was like double the size of mine because it was packed with so much filling.
The servers/baristas/crepe makers/busers were really nice. They did it all there... each person did everything there. Every table was full, even the patio. Breakfast was really steady. I would love to go back and try all the other crepes. I am really interested in the brie ones... melty cheese. Yum. -

A great place to eat before or after checking out your favourite new music at Zulu Records across the street. Salubrious to the soul, sweet or savoury, their crepes will bring you back everytime. Over 7 years I've been coming back to this place- Committed? Yes!
Every time their crepes are phenomenal. Indoor or outdoor seating, you'll have a great chance to observe the atmosphere of West 4th.
Favourites:
brie, walnut and maple syrup crepe
tomato, ham and cheddar crepe
and their Chai is dang awesome
Gracious service and lovely atmosphere.
Open all week except for Mondays.
The bathroom is in the back of the kitchen. -

Friendly staff, cramped seating, overpriced. The bacon, cheese, egg & tomato crepe was about twice as large as it needed to be, so you do get a lot of food. It was an okay breakfast, but the price does not seem justified.

I had forgotten how delicious a savoury crepe for breakfast can be and feel thankful to have been reaquainted with them recently..
Gypsy Rose is a cute little place to grab breakfast on W. 4th. The staff are very friendly too. They have a good selection of both sweet and savoury crepes as well as a different of baked items and sandwiches. Prices vary from $6- $9.
Just imagine your breakfast wrapped up in a golden crepe- just like a present! Why wouldn't you love it?! -

We headed here for a 4:30pm breakfast last Sunday. First and foremost, I appreciate any spot that is willing to cater to my occasionally bizarre schedule. We luckily sneaked in here 30 minutes before closing.
Behind the counter was a slightly fierce-looking crêpier who had that "eyeing-the-clock-for-closing-time" look. The menu is written on a chalk board behind the counter and the various options often differ by only one or two ingredients. But wade on through and there are some definite gems.
My apple cheddar was heftily filled although the cheddar (unfortunately) lacked the sharpness of an extra old cheddar. My boyfriend's spinach, basil, tomato and feta crêpe was just amazing. The fresh, smart taste of basil worked perfectly with the creamy crêpe batter. You can also order the usual classic fruit crêpes (strawberry, banana...), or have it with Nutella.
I tried my various tactics (from half-and-half, to trading a slice) in order to purloin some of the basil-filled crêpe but the boyfriend wouldn't hear of it, declining my offerings of my feeble apple and cheddar. Guess what I'll order next time?
The café has a sweet atmosphere: the warm yellow walls are bright and soothing and the mixture of Spanish and French posters provide an international feel. We listened to flamenco-style guitar throughout the breakfast. Gypsy Rose Café is a great spot: friendly service, clean, plus hot and delicious food. No complaints here. -

Cold coffee and over priced crepe. Won't go back.

The gf and I were lucky enough to be staying 1/2 a block from this place during a recent stay.
They didn't blink an eye when I ordered a crepe that wasn't on the menu (ham, tomatoes, mushrooms).
Both the gf and I were completely blissed out each time we ate here. The crepes are stuffed just the right amount.
I know when we visit vancouver again we will visit them again!
Plus, they folks working there were VERY nice. -

Thank you Gypsy Rose for crepes that are about quality, quantity and creativity...
Put on a beret and your best bohemiam outfit and head for an afternoon sweet crepe with jam, apples and nutella and a cup of tea, or just dwelve into a savoury crepe with spinach and feta and skip dinner altogether. I love the romantic feel of this little cafe and can't get enough of the charming decor and friendly European-esque hospitality. After all those calories and a bowl of latte, head on 4th and walk off the meal with major shopping destinations in mind. -

Before you die you must try this one item: the maple, walnut and brie crepe at Gypsy Rose. Honestly, one of the best things ever created, next to chocolate, Spanx and world peace.

This place has A LOT of really yummy crepes, both sweet and savory. I've eaten at a number of crepe places and the crepes here are pretty tasty. They also have salads, samosas, and other things. My only complaint is that they have exceedingly strange hours, open 9-6 most days. So they open halfway through breakfast and close halfway through dinner. How odd. So go here for lunch, but don't plan on going here for any other meal.

A friend of mine and I were wandering around the neighbourhood on a Sunday looking for a desert place, after we boarded an express bus took us more than a few blocks away from the place we initially choose. After looking around we finally came across this place and thought of giving it a try. We went in and found that they were about to close, just as we were about to walk out, one the customers suggested that the crepes here are amazing and we should totally do a take away. It was still 15 minutes before the closing time so I asked if we can sit down and finish it quickly. We didn't have time to go through the complete list and end up order crepe with egg, mushroom and cheese instead of something sweet. And it was amazing. It's one the best crepe I had in city. Overall, the place is clean and bright, has a lot of seating, the serving size was pretty good and the slightly high but well worth it. Earned a second visit.
