I went to this place for a quick breakfast bite in the weekend, for an English Muffin & a triple berry smoothie.

The muffin was quite special, as they used lean turkey Gluten free sausage, & also organic egg as well.

I can taste the "sweety" difference in the scrambled egg part right away, compared to other franchise stores nearby. They had done a good job on this.

The smoothie was freshly made & prepared. They cut the fruit & blended them in front of me as well, which I like. This ensures me what I am actually drinking in the smoothie. They even put probiotic yogurt into it !

The taste was SOOOOO natural (they didn't add sugar at all !), that I LOVED it !

By the way, they had a gluten free pastry bar as well. I was tempted to get their cream cheese brownie and the hem seed power bar. Well, next time.

Gutenberg's has been a pretty negative experience for me. 2 bad experiences-and 1 ok experience.

The first time I visited, I noticed that the owner was trying to push a decision on me-I had told him I needed a minute to look over the menu-and he kept talking about the different things they have that he felt were good. I just simply wanted a quiet moment to think-so this did not impress me.

My order was a Barbeque Chicken Sandwich. It said a certain price on the menu-but when he rang me through it was a different price-when I asked him why he said it was due to them using a different kind of chicken (and it was higher quality) I feel he should have mentioned that it wasn't the price on the menu before he had already started making it. When I took it to work to eat-it was a smaller portion that I had hoped. I finished it in 3 bites. The combo in total cost me over 12.00 - even though it was priced on their menu as 8 something for a combo. He had told me the combo comes with a soup-but because of the soup I had chosen-it also cost an additional $ 2.

Second time I visited was alright - I do enjoy their smoked salmon bagel. It's had capers in it, which i loved.

Third time however I sent my co-worker to grab it for me, and she had come back empty handed. The person there had got caught up talking to my co-worker about a topic and completely forgot about my meal. I appreciated that they delivered it for me (I'm just across the street) but my co-worker had called me to ask me which soup I wanted. Clam chowder, or Pea and Ham soup-and I was very dissapointed to see I got a different soup altogether, which I did not enjoy at all.

Sad to say, I think I will be finding another place to get bagels from now on. The owners are super sweet and genuine people however I find service was not on par.

I've had some great experiences here since I moved in across the street.

Great latte...and I'm picky about my espresso.

They have a FANTASTIC organic sunflower and chia bar and vegan power bar. Luvd it. I keep going back for it.

The people here are very friendly and provided good service. However, that only makes my horrible review of their menu more difficult.

I can understand trying to cut costs because the rent in the library is probably pretty high, but seriously people.... the food quality here was significantly closer to an elementary school cafeteria than a european style cafe.

We ordered the "country style breakfast" and a cheeseburger combo.

    Cheeseburger:
When paying $8 for a cheeseburger, you expect slightly better quality than the McDonalds next door. Think again. In fact, at least McDonalds has more fixings!. This burger was pathetic and boring. You could squish it down to the thickness of the $10 bill you just wasted there. Oh, and they used regular kraft singles for the cheese...WTF!

    Country style breakfast:
This menu item showed a picture of some toast, 2 eggs and  2 sausages. I guess we should have looked closer because the "breakfast suasuages" were actually regular pork hotdogs!!! I was actually insulted. Who the hell just eats hotdogs on a plate with no bun or ketchup or anything. I have never seen anything like this before and it boggles my mind that any rational person would return to pay $6 for a couple of hotdogs on a plate. The eggs and toast were nothing special as expected and only came with margarine packets. But even if the eggs and toast were amazing, the quality of the eggs and toast cannot possibly make up for serving people freaking hotdogs and calling them breakfast sausages!

Overall: These people are very nice, so if you want to go somewhere because you are lonely and like it when people are nice to you, then go here. But if you want to eat non-disgusting food, then I recommend any other place in the world.

Can you call it brunch on a work day? Just doesn't feel right. Anyway, I had a meeting downtown and happened to park right across the street from here. Gutenbergs had been mentioned in yelp  talk so I decided to give it a try. Friendly staff upon entry, helpful pictures of the meal deals in case you don't know what a blt or cheeseburger looks like. I opted for the french toast and a small coffee for "brunch".  The coffee was ok but a bit on the weak side and the french toast was of the thawed, mass-manufactured variety and luke-warm at best.  The sandwiches looked good in the photos, I suppose I might try one of those if I ever came back, but with all the other great lunch options to choose from on Robson/Homer, I doubt it.

It did live up to it's calmness as spoken of on the "Viennese Coffee haus" thread, but that's where the similiarities ended. No high ceilings, scrollwork or cosy booths upholstered in button back mustard velvet, just formica, and those old metal/plywood stacking chairs you sat on in the annex or the gym in high school. The spot I sat in actually was in a sunken portion with bar seating just above it, so that particular spot was not too condusive  to quiet contemplation or reading.  Unless you like someone else reading over your shoulder. Just a regular lunch and coffee spot is all it is.

There's something that feels so comforting to me about this little coffee shop tucked under the wing of the central branch of the public library. Warm yellow walls surround a brightly lit sitting area. The plants, newspapers, and German-inspired decor deliver a feeling to being transported far away from Robson and Library Square.

They have a nice selection of eats (although no schnitzel that I could see) and the coffee is hot and strong. A perfect escape for any day you are falling asleep studying or reading at the library.

soggy bagel with minimal cream cheese and an iced mocha made solely with powder.  Their small is also an 8oz size - smaller than starbucks & the norm.  I love supporting local coffee shops and this one is nice and close but it is lackluster and not a great deal

Anywhere that serves JJ Bean coffee is A-OK in my books and Gutenberg's does just that.  This family-run franchise makes a mean soy latte along with a very tasty breakfast bagel and lunch sandwiches.  It is always surprisingly calm in this cafe, a welcome respite from the hustle of Robson and ubiquitous construction outside.  I always prefer to support the local establishments like this one as opposed to many of the other commercial food joints that litter Library Square.
