We were looking for a new spot to try out for a little pre-Christmas celebration recently when we stumbled upon this new spot, Gullabull's Bar & Grill.
Gullabull's is located in the old Ryan Duffy's space on Spring Garden Road. It's a great location and a great spot to check out. They don't offer anything new, but what they do offer they do very well.
I, being the carnavour / monster I am, ordered the hamburger. The waitress recommended it over all my other potential choices, so I had to take her word. Plus, you could get guacamole on your burger! I don't know about anybody else, but a restaurant that not only offers, but encourages guacamole on your burger is a-ok in my books. We also ordered the Mediterranean plate to start.
Needless to say, I was really impressed...and full...really really full. The portion sizes were a little off (there was too much dip for what we were given on the Mediterranean plate), but the food was all very good.
The winter is a tough time to open a new restaurant for even the best. I have high hopes for this place and can only hope it sticks around for a while to come!
But don't just take my word about this place, go check it out for yourself, don't be so gullible! (riiiiiiiimshot!) -

I definitely have mixed feelings about Gullabull's. On the one hand it's a good establishment with a great location. But, on the other hand, I think it's attempting to be fancier than it really is.
When you first walk up all the stairs you are immediately facing the hostess... and some walls. You can see into the restaurant area, which looks nice, but can't see the pub area. The first time we went, the hostess went to see if there was somewhere we could sit and didn't return for 5 minutes. We left before she came back to seat us.
It's really off-putting not knowing whether this is a fancy place or not. It almost seems like somewhere you would need to dress up to go to, but the menu decorations don't exactly scream up-scale restaurant.
I don't know what they're trying to portray with this place and probably never will. -

I'm a little curious as to what this restaurant is aiming for...
When I was in before Christmas I was sort of struck by the discord. The interior is fancier than you'd expect considering there are bulls wearing lampshades pictured on the menu. Food was reasonably priced although a tad more expensive than you might think.
Overall, I think Gullabull's will probably do better if they decide to be a straight up student pub (Moustache, Buba Ray's) or switch up a few things and attempt to be more of a sit down restaurant. Either way, something's gotta give at this spot. -

Waitress was nice food was crap. They should spend some money on a chef to put together a menu instead of cheap decor and a clothing store no one wants to shop in.

The ribs are to die for! Tender and the sauce is very tasty. My wife had the spinach salad and love it. The service was great very attentive. This was a Saturday supper time meal and restaurant was at 75% capacity. I definitely will be going back.
