Dictionary definition of GUFF: Slang ridiculous or insolent talk

Naw! This is *no* guff. This is G.U.F.F.

When they say "good", they should have said "great". G.U.F.F. made my kitchen possible. They improved my living space with style and storage. And all with wonderful customer service, delivery and decent prices.

    *

I had forgotten what it is like to move to a new space: furniture that worked perfectly in your old place is suddenly all wrong, awkward or over-sized. You realize that your early 1900's unimproved kitchen includes exactly one foot of counter space and that storage is distributed weirdly around the house.

    What the guff?

    Enter G.U.F.F.

I followed Stephanie C.'s advice and stalked the G.U.F.F. blog for recent arrivals. We had very specific things in mind:

    1) Console for the kitchen that would provide shelving and work space
    2) Buffet for the dining room for serving and storage

Folks, my guy and I just moved waaaaaaaaaay across the continent with two children and a bazillion cardboard boxes crammed with stuff--are still unpacking and orienting to a very different place. It's difficult to express how fantastic it is to find a store like G.U.F.F. that is reasonable, stylish and makes it simple to meet needs.

    1) We view a two-shelf, metal, postindustrial style table on the G.U.F.F. blog. Perfect for workspace; cutting boards; glass jars stuff full of lentils, flour, oats and beans; Fiesta-ware; ripening tomatoes; a slow cooker; big toaster oven and other misc.

    2) We spot a sweet vintage maple-wood side-table/buffet on their blog with unique pulls and unusual feet for a fantastic price.

We take measurements of our space and call the store. They provided the height, width and depth of the items of our enquiries and answered all questions kindly and patiently. We measured twice and asked about delivery. Their delivery quotes were based on location/story of the home--for us, worth every cent.

That's right: we never visited the store.

Crazy? Crazy like foxes, I say.

For item #2, based on our questions, we were supplied with 4 additional pictures emailed to me within 20 minutes of my call.

Paid-for items were delivered at prescribed times and set lovingly in place.

    I love G.U.F.F.

    Eat it, IKEA.

If you have a penchant for mid-century Danish furniture, remember the name GUFF.

I recently bought a vintage walnut credenza that took care of some home organizational issues. It had a simple but unique design with tapered legs, was in great condition and it was within my price range. I don't have a car but for a minimal flat fee, the staff arranged to have it delivered within the week.

GUFF specializes in mid-century Danish style furniture, but you can also find art deco or industrial items. For resale/used furniture, their prices are reasonable and their turnover is high. If you're looking for something specific, my advice is to check their blog daily. If you see something you like, pounce on it; otherwise, baby, it's gone.

I've been checking their blog for months and sighing over all the gorgeous teak furniture on offer, but I'm so rarely in the neighborhood that I'd never checked the store out before.  Their prices are extremely reasonable and the selection is great, and unlike many second-hand furniture stores, the place doesn't feel cluttered or overwhelming at all.  This place is definitely worth a stop--even if you don't think you need anything, you'll find something delightful that'll make you mentally rearrange your living room to see if you can justify bringing it home.

G.U.F.F has impeccable taste when it comes to picking out quality vintage goods for resale in-store. I fall in love with something every time I walk in.

I bought the most beautiful old school desk at G.U.F.F. earlier this year for an surprisingly reasonable price. It's absolutely charming but a little awkward to move, so the staffer let me borrow their dolly to cart home. (Very cool).

I highly recommend G.U.F.F for your next used/vintage furniture purchase.

Best used/vintage furniture store in the city, hands down. Simply, their prices are actually reasonable! This means their turnover of items is extremely high, so you need to check in and check in often. They update their website frequently, but chances are if you see something you like online, it'll be gone before you even get down to the store.

Over the past few months, I've bought a great steamer trunk, my desk, and my kitchen chairs all from GUFF - needless to say, my place looks pretty fuckin' great.
