The staff and I are on a first name basis, unfortunately, here at Guardian.

Although we have had a love/hate relationship for the past year, they, without question, saved my dog's life.

We had been to probably a dozen doctors and specialists throughout Edmonton, Spruce Grove, and Calgary. Although, she is not 100% - YET!! - we are on the right track with what we now believe to be an auto-immune disorder.

I had been told by the various doctor's that there is nothing they can do, to feed her ANYTHING she'll eat, and wait.

Being that she is my responsibility, I couldn't simply wait for her to die. She's a tough cookie, has hit rock bottom, but is a healthy girl now and we're hoping she'll be around for another ten years.

An important point to note is the other doctor's weren't capable of even pointing me in the right direction. Many, many of them wiped their hands clean and sent me on my way. I am so fortunate and blessed to have had a referral to Guardian (previously Edmonton Emergency Vet).

Thank you to the many specialists at the clinic for everything.

The Guardian Veterinary Clinic is a great facility. It's a bit more pricey compared to other clinics, but thats because this place is open 24/7, 365 days a year...and you pay extra for that convenience.
The staff are pleasant and helpful. Waiting and examination rooms are open, airy and most importantly, clean. Doctors are gentle, caring, and friendly.
Even on an eventful weekend like Easter when dogs tend to get their noses into some chocolatey goodness, the wait time wasnt too long. I'd bring my kitties here again in a heartbeat if there was an overnight emergency or health complications on a holiday and I'm truly thankful this business is around for those 'just-in-case' moments :)

Side note: Google maps street view claims this Veterinary Hospital in an empty feild, but this newer building does exist. Promise. It's located on 99 Street, right across from that business with the giant Polar Bear balloon on their roof.

This past Easter weekend, my puppy decided to join the festivities by eating a lot of dark chocolate (very toxic for dogs!). The moment that my dog started to shows signs of toxicity, we called the Vet Clinic. They were professional and calming on the phone. Once we arrived, we were immediately escorted into an exam room. My dog ended up having to stay the day (hooked up to IVs). I called throughout the day and was always routed directly to the vet for an update on my dog's status. From the reception to the vet tech to the vet; everyone was extremely helpful, friendly and compassionate.

Yes, ofcourse it was expensive - I expected it would be. Delivering animal healthcare, especially in a state-of-the-art facility prepared for emergency surgeries and more, is bound to be expensive to operate. As humans, we are lucky to have our healthcare subsidized - often not seeing the full cost of our bills.

In the case of an emergency, I would happily return to the Animal Emergency Hospital.

Having an emergency pet hospital 10-20 minutes away from my home is an amazing relief. We've had to use Animal Emergency Hospital South three times in the last five years and each time the veterinary service has been amazing.

I have three dogs but it seems my smallest fur baby is predisposed to bad luck. Calypso has had to use Animal Emergency Hospital South three times now.

Calypso has had two allergic reactions in her life (in 2006 and 2010). Both times her face became swollen and her gums became inflamed. Calypso was given prompt treatment and the veterinarians who helped her were unbelievably informative and supportive. We also had to use the hospital when Calypso was attacked by another dog while on a walk. She received a few stitches and pain medication.

I cannot say enough kind words for the veterinarians who work here. If you live on the south side and you own a four legged pet, you should feel relieved that such a wonderful hospital exists.

I have to start by saying that the idea behind the emergency vet is is amazing. I would be heartbroken if one of my animals were suffering and we had to wait until a clinic was open. Things come up - accidents happen - but this place should be used in EMERGENCIES ONLY - cuz it's certainly going to cost you! I have yet to hear a story that involved taking a pet here that did not cost at least $500 (I think it's $150 just to walk in the door???). I understand that costs to run/maintain a place like this might be higher than a regular vet office so I can understand paying a little more - but I just can't shake the feeling that they are really trying to stick it to me. When an animal is suffering the only thing you care about is making it better - at any cost - seems the emergency vet is well aware of this and takes full advantage of it - that's just my opinion though. Moreover, there is nothing really outstanding in terms of quality of care and attentiveness (don't get me wrong - they are good at what they do but I have never had the 'WOW, they REALLY care' feeling coming out of there like I recently had at Park Veterinary Clinic). As mentioned, I am very thankful that this place exists and regardless of how used I feel when I walk out of there, I would be back there in a second, wallet wide open, if I needed to be.
