Love the concept.  Delivery is fantastic, staff is fantastic, but the freshness of the food...is very questionable.

I had a pretty bad coconut which made me sick and some of my vegetables were....not the best quality.

I was disappointed by the number of missing items. They didn't charge me for them, but as a business that specializes in delivering groceries, they should have groceries.
Also, there is a review from 2009 where a reviewer had the same feedback. That was 3 years ago- lots of time to improve.
It's pretty annoying because they don't tell you in advance. They just bring you a whole bunch of stuff and the shopper/delivery guy says NOTHING and leaves. It's only then that you realized that 25% of your order isn't there...
Another issue was that some of the produce was not good, so I'm hoping they will refund the amount.
The delivery was smooth & easy. The delivery guy was very professional, other than not mentioning the fact that a whole bunch of groceries were missing...
I would use them again, but I wouldn't count on them delivering all the items. If I was relying on a particular product or ingredient, I would NOT count on Grocery Gateway and would figure something else out.

I have been using Grocery Gateway since I moved to Toronto in 2001. Back in the day they weren't owned by Longos and although the service and product selection has improved over the years thanks to Longos, they have also stopped taking cash at the door and delivering booze!

Fast forward to my latest experience and things are still good. Their selection is pretty good, and they are pretty good at adding new items if there is something you need that they don't carry. The prices are pretty similar to other premium grocery stores (Loblaw, Metro, Sobeys) and their produce is always super fresh.

The $9.95 delivery fee is a bit steep but fair considering that is what a cab costs me from the grocery store... and lets face it grocery shopping online at 5am in your underwear is awesome!

My only advise would be to make sure to check your order when you receive it. Sometimes they miss an item and charge you for it... it's not a big deal though, just call the customer service number and they will either come back and deliver the item or credit your account.

I have been using Grocery Gateway off and on for a number of years. I love the ability to just sit at my computer and click. Some may call it more pricey, but if I factor in how much I would pay for a taxi to get home after some grocery shopping it works out to pretty much the same.

I have never been disappointed with GG. The deliveries are always on time and the staff is very professional.

Grocery Gateway is a fantastic service. My husband and I own our own business and so we are always working. We don't have a car, so walking to the grocery store every few days so that we don't have to carry a bunch of bags at once gets very time consuming and is more expensive than doing a big shop all at once. We found GG and could not be happier. We actually save money using their service because we don't buy stuff we don't need when like we do at the regular grocery store (going hungry, etc.).

Sometimes there are mistakes made and we have to call and they always, always respond immediately and do what they can to make every transaction go a smoothly as possible. The customer service is one of the best out there.

    Highly recommended!

This was shaping up to be a five star review until the moment I unpacked my groceries.

I started using Grocery Gateway in 2002 - at the very start - and was consistently impressed with the service but then went on hiatus for a few years because I had access to a car. Yesterday was my first time ordering since 2005 and I was hoping it was going to be another five star experience, but alas.

The online ordering process was perfect. The email notification was perfect. So was the availability of delivery times. The delivery dude called me 30 minutes before my delivery window saying he was running ahead of schedule and asked if I was around to accept, and I said yes. He was polite, friendly and accommodating, hauling my grocery box right up to the third floor and onto my kitchen counter. The payment process (debit) was a snap and my cold food was sufficiently cold and intact. So why two stars?

Half of my order wasn't delivered!

Now I ask you - if 50% of a person's 18 item grocery store order is out of stock, wouldn't you alert the customer to this fact? Perhaps an email or a phone call saying "Hey, half the items you ordered aren't in stock and you specified no substitutions - do you still want us to deliver this or wait?" Because I can guarantee you I would have waited to place my order and rejigged my cooking schedule.

Now not only do I not have all the items I need (and wasted $10 on delivery for a small order) but I have to GO TO THE GROCERY STORE TO GET THEM. Which is why I was using Grocery Gateway in the first place - to avoid leaving the house. Urgh.

I'm sure this will be resolved once I call customer service, but this seems to be a bit of a flaw in the order process.

Ok, so I've been using Grocery Gateway for 5 weeks in a row now and I'm still liking it.  Heads up, don't order bread.  I ordered the baguette and it wasn't fresh.  I complained and I got a credit for it so now I know that customer satisfaction is important to these guys.  Also last week I had a coupon for free delivery so that saved me the $9.95 delivery charge.  Produce has been consistently excellent.  Remember, this is Longo's so the produce has a rep for being decent.  They also carry organics which I like.  They are continually adding new product lines and I get an email each week with the specials, savers coupons, new product announcements etc.

I thoroughly check the weekly specials.  What I like is that they bring the groceries in these fold up cartons that you can collapse for easy storage and then the following week I give them back to the delivery guy.  Prices are competitive with all major grocery chains so for the time and effort it saves me it is worth using this service.

I am very disappointed with this service.

The quality of delivered food is awful: not fresh fruits and vegetables, expired milk products, wrong products ( even if you marked for no substitutions), not good enough description (don't be surprised to get 8% yogurt instead of 0%)

I should mention the products are much more expensive then in the regular store plus delivery charge. Rude drivers and ignorant customer service.

Do not recommend to anyone. They sell products online they can't sell in a retail store.

Who am I? Judy Jetson? This is like they dreamed the future could be! Back in the 50's, the 70's and even the 90's ordering groceries in your kitchen was a thing of the ~~future~~. The future is now ( and has been since at least 2002).  I've been ordering from GG for so long it feels like yesterday when Longo's bought them out (it was 2004) and now a person physically does the shopping at a local Longo's and delivers your fresh, frozen and refrigerated groceries right into your home.  Even if I had a car, the lugging of groceries from the trunk into the kitchen inevitably winds up with a broken jar of soup and smushed bread and leaky milk.  Well, not at Grocery Gateway. Groceries are delivered by professionals onto my kitchen floor. You always must go through the list to make sure you got it all. If they left something in the truck or forgot to pick it up, but charged you for it, they will credit your account. If your bananas are banged up, call customer service- they will credit your account. Leaky milk? Stale bread? Expired meat? Credits to your account. If you don't have a car, the delivery charge of $9.95 more than pays for itself if you had to take a taxi to Metro.  Prices are comparable to Loblaws- not a No Frills kind of place!  If you have ever been at the grocery store and wondered if you had a bag of flour or forgot how much toilet paper you had left- this is for you! Simply sign in, select from "my store' of the items you commonly buy and then walk around the house seeing if you need more TP or how much flour you need for that recipe.  Or put in an order like a shopping list throughout the week and set a delivery time later.
Sure, you have to be home for the delivery, but you can pay with credit, or interac.  Choose a 2 hour window of time that's convenient for you. Be home and wait for the fresh veggies, heavy containers of liquid detergents, juices and milk to arrive.
Have them deliver to your home-bound grandmother or new moms who have a lot to deal with already!  Impress your friends and relatives with statements such as, "I order my groceries online!"
    A+ Customer Service, too.
Friends always say, I really like to go grocery shopping. Well, I thought I did, too.

I enjoy the concept but I think the service and quality leaves a lot to be desired. For example, they give you the option to Accept Substitutes, which I have previously always declined but after 12 things didn't show up in my last order, I figured, hey, why not...big mistake. They substituted for a different brand (though same item, same weight) that cost 20% more. Also, frequently they send items like meats or milk that are out of date that same day. Common sense tells you that I can't eat 3 things of chicken that are all out of date on the same day, nor can I finish a carton of milk by the next day. That said, with a new baby at home, I put up with it for now.
