Of course you're paying a bit more than Superstore, but the quality's worth it! Especially when you try their sprouted bread, which is a lot healthier than the typical loaf, which is heated in its process. there you go, 1st tip of the day lol.
anyhoo, went to their fresh deli, and ordered their signature chicken panini sandwich, organic chicken (obviously), zucchini, red peppers, cheddar cheese, what a healthy, tasty treat for $6.99. highly recommended.
Won't be going back to Subway ever!! -

I have been going to Green's since it opened and have found a bunch of problems with how certain department's are run.
First off, their salads are sold by weight, but they weigh the salad in their recyclable cardboard boxes so you are immediately overcharged for the item. The box probably weighs about 50g's on it's own.
On top of that they used to have pemeal bacon at their deli which was amazing, but has since disappeared.
Their produce selection is decent and mostly filled with local produce. However, their apple selection is poor at best and REALLY overpriced. If you are okay with paying 1.75$ for a single apple that isn't crispy , but mushy then by all means go for it, but frankly I try and stay away as I have always been disappointed.
All in all, they have a few items worth going in for, but I would rather buy my meat from a local butcher (it's cheaper) and my producer from whole foods.
Avoid the ready-made stuff if you can. The only ready-made thing that's okay in terms of value for price is the Roast Chicken and the kale salad. Everything else is crazy expensive. -

Easy to access, good selection of packaged food, produce and meats, fairly priced with a good deli selection. Very calm and happy and helpful staff. Fantastic.

Green's is a typical health food store, but has pretty good prices and a decent selection. The produce section is small, but well organized. Everything is organic, so expect to pay more. I go mainly for the sale items, because they do have some pretty decent sales. When compared to other health food stores it's a cut above. Also, location is pretty great and the rewards program seems like you're at least getting something out of shopping there.

The only thing I really really like about Greens are the free range rotisserie chickens.
Well..... today when I went in to pick one up to make soup, I was sadly disappointed to see that there were only 2 left and both were the saddest looking 1.5 lbs chickens I've ever seen. I thought, heck, maybe they'll give me % off, but oooooohhhhh no. They wanted to sell these terrible looking little birds at full price. I simply refused to pay $10.99 for it and you likely would have as well. The store manager was a belittling dick about the whole thing too. Shame.
Otherwise, their produce is hit n miss, those flax rolls are pretty gross and I agree with a previous reviewee, the meat can often be sketchy. -

Stopped by Greens for the first time today and it's like totally super awesome.
As soon as I walked in the door, I asked the first clerk I saw if everything in the store was organic: "All the produce is." That's what I like to hear! I love Whole Foods and Choices and Capers and all the other places in Van that offer organic, but extra bonus points to Greens for NOT carrying conventional. It makes it such a breeze to not have to check the labels on each piece of fruit before tossing it into my cart. It makes it feel like this store is the right place for me since I'm confident that the bright, delicious looking broccoli over there is going to fit my eating habits!
Prices aren't bad either. I mean, organic is always going to be more expensive than conventional, but check this out: Avocados at Whole foods? $2.50 each. Avocados at Greens? $0.99!!!
Plus, I happened to strike up a conversation with a kind gentleman who seemed to be the owner, and he informed me that Greens is a family-owned business and is trying to figure out what the neighborhood wants from a quality grocer. By his demeanor, I guess they are struggling a bit, what without the ultra-deep pockets of WFMI behind them.
Free parking and cute clientele to boot? I, for one, will be shifting my dollas to Greens :) -

Want to strike up a conversation over cantaloupes? Have the check out clerk genuinely care about what you're making for dinner? Feel confident that your meat is coming from a respectable source? If you're reading from the same grocery list as me, this is the place to pop a shopping cart wheelie over. And likely make a new buddy too. (Hollar to the ladies in line behind me, I rocked the roasted celeriac we were discussing on my last shop)
Sure, some things will be pricey. And others will feel like a steal because they do have sales. But you'll be able to rest easy knowing the choices you're making are good here. There's lots of local meats (like Sloping Hill Pork). And oh, the rotisserie chicken - represents all that is good in the bbq world. -

I work across the street from this market. I pretty much bring my own lunch to work every day, but the once or twice a month I don't, I go to Greens. Their soups are delsih! I am absolutely obsessed with their tofu coleslaw..Mmmmm
I think that their selection beats anything else in the neighborhood.
Yum Yum! I might have to "forget" my lunch tomorrow..he he! -

I was pretty sad when the IGA at Maple and Broadway disappeared, but overall Greens is a pretty good replacement. Their produce section has lots of nice organic veggies, they have a wide variety of frozen gluten free and vegan products, and their deli section has lots of delicious little nibbles. They also have a cute cafe in the back. Prices aren't too terrible for the produce, more expensive for everything else.
There is definitely room for improvement, however. Their meat selection leaves lots to be desired, and when I've bought things on sale they have been rung up incorrectly (with the non-sale price). It's a big pain having to wait while another staff member goes to do a price check, especially when it happens multiple times. On the whole, their checkout lines go reaaaaaaally slowly. -

Love cruising by and checking out all the fresh fruit and vegg. Inside it's got just as much flava. Soooo glad to have a fruit market nearby - This part of Kits really needed one - they've got so much more too. Nice fresh fish and some great items in the deli section, especially if you're looking for food inspiration. Great little vitamin and beauty section to boot.
Worth checking out - I will be soon - is their Sunday morning organic breakie for only $5.99!! Gotta admit everything seems to be priced to beat the Marketplace next door.Listed in: Coffee in Kits

Their regular prices can seem a tad overpriced but some of them are cheaper. They had some decent sales when I went in but apples rung up wrong (good thing I caught it, I would've paid nearly double). It's upsetting though because every customer they rang in who got those apples got ripped off and paid double because of someone's error. Not cool. I'm just one of those people who carefully look at receipts which is why I noticed.
I had a roast beef sandwich and it was pretty good. I wanted a salad with it, but ironically there were no actual salads to go with it, just mixed cooked veggies. Ironic because this place is called "greens" and there wasn't a single mixed greens salad available! The closest was coleslaw.
They're part of some sort of no-waste initiative, which loosely translates to "if you want bags you need to buy them for 30¢ each."
Other than the apple problem and having to buy bags (which I didn't do because luckily they also have a bin where customers can bring plastic bags to share/reuse), this place seems to be a decent spot. One thing I liked is that they sample some of their produce, which is good, because I wouldn't know how yummy those ugly grapefruits tasted if it wasn't sampled.
Be weary of super cheap items. The 99¢/lb. valencia oranges are sour. I don't know how I'm going to get through all those sour oranges. I will definitely shop the produce section with caution next time at Greens.
This store is worth taking a peek at but I'm kind of disappointed in this place. I was expecting it to be better than it is. I'd still rather go to Capers. -

Super happy to discover this place after yoga. Finally a place with better prices on organic produce then Whole Foods! It's also nice to support a local new company that is into all the same things i am in into. Lots of options without the overwhelming 'how do i choose' feeling i get from Whole Foods. Accept when it came to their apples.. they had a ton of different kinds of apples which is great since it is local and still in season in the heart of winter. I also overheard the meat guy talking about how they get there meat from a local farm and butch it themselves and utilize all parts of it. I don't eat meat but it seems that that are doing the more humane and sustainable thing when they do slaughter.
They have a decent bulk section, with good prices on nuts and hulled hemp seeds (my new fave).
A nice cafe attached to it with tons of Sweet Cherebum items, and deli items from the lovely Commercial drive location which all looking amazing!
I will be shopping here from now on.. sorry Whole Foods.Listed in: Best of Kitsilano, Local & Sustainable, Groceries!

This gorgeous store is so clean, and nicely stocked! The store is fairly new and while some of the ingredients found here can be much more expensive then when bought elsewhere, there are often good deals to be found.
They have a great selection of GF products. Have a separate section just for natural medicines and lotions and potions. They have a tempting deli case, along with the small bakery selection of locally made breads, although I didn't see many gluten free brands.
They are a bit pricy though and don't have much of a freezer section.
