I'm not going to lie, I live quite close to the Greek Festival and that makes it that much more appealing!

I was here today (Monday) for dinner with the family.  We were disappointed that no events were planned for the evening, but since it is a Monday--I kind of understand.

Yes, the food has gone up in price but it also has gone up in quality!  I ordered the BBQ Lamb Dinner ($16) and was surprised at the portion size!  It came with 3 large pieces of lamb along with a couple of smaller pieces, a large slice of bread, tzatziki, lots of greek salad, and delicious rice.  I am glad that I got it to go because I would not have been able to finish it otherwise!

I also asked for extra tzatziki and the lady's words were "that is not a problem at all, dear!"

I have seen performances in previous years and everyone seems to have fun and enjoy it!  It ranks higher than Greek Day in Kitsilano for me!

Noticed 2 key factors about the Greek festival this year: Prices went up significantly ie: Souvlaki dinners are now $14 each,,,,yikes! Everything is more expensive but on a good note they went up a notch on the yummy factor......definitely better quality this year.

Last year sucked so I was almost not going to go but my girlfriend had never checked it out so I escorted her there and she made a beeline for the loukoumades. A must have if you love warm, honey soaked donuts with cinnamon and sesame. Baclava wasn't too shabby either.

My recommendation the pork souvlaki! Tender and tasty.

Fruit stand was there again and prices are 3 containers of either cherries, blueberries, strawberries or raspberries for $10. Really, who can pass up on Okanagon fruit; I can't.

Weekends are insane and I was working so Monday night visit resulted in a table to eat instead of standing up and parking for a change.

Overall bring lots of money and enjoy!!

My buddy was on a quest for loukoumades (a Greek fried-dough pastry soaked in honey and cinnamon and sprinkled with sesame).  We arrived too late to the Greek Day on Broadway (they stopped serving food at 8:30PM), we had our second shot at Greek Summerfest in East Vancouver (runs until July 11th, 2010).

Overall, it was a pretty good vibe.  Lots of Greek music and performers - we were treated to kids doing traditional Greek folk dancing.  Some of my friends were a bit weirded out by the middle-aged plump woman performing a belly-dance - and no, she wasn't wearing anything revealing.  I give her props for flaunting it.

Food seemed a lot more expensive than was on offer at the Greek Day - however, the portions were extremely generous and the festival was a lot more food-centric with tables and seating everywhere.  Tax is included in all the prices, so it did help ease the sting of the HST.  My friends really liked their pork souvlaki ($5.50), tzatziki ($4) and gyros ($5.50).  And the loukoumades ($4) didn't disappoint.   I even noticed on the menu they had a $210 option for a whole lamb on a spit and other pricey menu options.  However, judging by the looks and the size of the some of the plates coming off the stands - they looked completely worth it.  The menu and festival schedule is up on their website (http://vancouvergreeks...).

The beer is only $4.25 a cup as well - I wasn't hungry so I just treated the festival like a beer garden.  Unlike the Greek Day festival, there were plenty of covered seating and people didn't act like it was kegger.  Also, parking on the grass lot is free.

Anyways, glad it's open until the 11th as I will be back.  Definitely worth checking out.
