I wear a very simple hair style - caesar cut. I have gone to both expensive salons and budget franchises over the years. When I first started working and had no financial responsibilities other than travelling, I often opted for the expensive salons because of works like sculpt massages, coffee and scented candles. However, 8 times out of 10, the hair cut was just OK. No matter how many times I asked my hair to be cut short, the hairdressers were often reluctant to do so. Although most budget franchises butcher your hair with razors, at least I get what I want.
When I came back to Vancouver earlier this year, I went to the new location of a well known hair salon just around the corner of my block in Coal Harbour. I paid $60 (before tips) and was not impressed with the cut - there were no layers and my cut was still not short enough after 2 trims upon my request at the end of the session.
Although I had slightly better results subsequently at Great Clips on Davie Street for less than 1/3 of my neighbourhood salon charges, I was still hoping to find a place of which I would become a regular repeat customer.
I noticed the Great Clips location while grocery shopping at the Superstore on Grandview and Renfrew not too long ago. I gave it a try and I've been back for a few months now for every hair cut. The price (less than $15 before tips for men's cut) is even cheaper than the other franchise location on Davie. Perhaps because the location is not busy, the hairdressers never rush customers out. I had probably 3 stylists over the course of the few months cutting my hair and all of them are attentive, often offer suggestions and let me know what they are doing along the way. My cuts are always done slowly and carefully. They do scissors and razors. When they use razors, I do not feel like having a lawnmower going over my head.
When I had my hair cut today, I even overhead a customer coming in asking for a particular stylist.
If you wear a very simple hair style, I would definitely recommend this location.
