Review from Jaden N.

I'm one to look for a cheap and decent haircut every 2 or 3 months. It grows and looks good and then slowly starts to look scruffy. I decided to venture out of my element this time and try the shop just a few doors down from where I normally go. I had always contemplated it but wasn't drawn to it for some reason.
One other thing I should mention is that I never ever make appointments to get my haircut. The last time I made an appointment I paid $40 + at a nice salon...maybe i'll get back to that status someday :)
Last weekend I walked into Great Clips at the local strip mall at Park and Tilford. I was greeted as I walked in by a friendly lady at the front desk. Haircut? Why yes of course...how did you know!
After the greeting I was asked for my phone number and my name. She took a few minutes to enter it into their computer system and the other girl working there had to help her out. My patience wasn't at its best that day but I kept my comments to myself and gave them the info they needed to cut my hair? I really didn't see the need to give out my phone number to get a drop in haircut. For a moment I contemplated leaving and going next door.
I was then given my hair stylist for that day. She was friendly and seemed to have the right customer service approach for any hair salon. After a bit of discussion I gave her an idea of what I wanted...typical...shorter. I wonder if she was hoping for something more to work with.
A great thing I will point out is that she asked me how I usually get it cut. Scissors or buzzed. I hate that f-ing buzz cut method. It makes me want to ask "Did they teach you how to cut hair in school?". I do realize it can help to give a softer look, but I do feel that any hair stylist should no their way around with scissors. We're trusting them with scissors are we not?
She kept pretty quiet for most of the time and piped up with a few questions here and there. She didn't request me to move my head back or forward, but maybe that was because of the monstrous grip she had on my hair. When I found out she had only been there a couple of weeks I understood. Maybe she was still a tad nervous or getting used to her new spot at the hair salon. Perfectly understandable. I don't expect much from these places but it did feel a tad uncomfortable.
She was very good about ensuring that my hair was cut evenly and did a pretty good job at it too. She missed my sideburns...or at least I had to ask her before she took note of it. Once she was done she didn't bring over the mirror to show me the back of my head...still don't know how it looks. She also didn't bring out the blow dryer to try and remove any little hair bits that were left...I guess that fluffer brush must have done the trick. The she pulled the smock off of me and not to complain or anything cause it is kind of hard to maneuver the thing...but mental note for next time, don't wear flip flops to the hair salon. You never know when a bunch of hair will fall between your toes. :{
So in the end it wasn't the worst experience ever and my hair does look pretty good. However I shall keep pressing on to find the best and most affordable haircut. Can anyone beat $17 + Tip?
