    12/14/2010 2 Check-ins Here

Gravity Pope is a trendy spot on Whyte Avenue with a very cool shoe collection. These aren't shoes you'll find at any ol' shoe store. No, this is hip, futuristic footwear for the modern and urban girl.

Watch for sales at GP because the prices here are higher than the mall, too. If you want amazing shoes, you'll be paying for it! But sign up for their newsletter and you'll be the first hear about deals.

A pair of gorgeous and comfortable-beyond-my-wildest-dreams sandals are my best deal to date, because they were on sale, too! High quality pieces that have lasted me a long time, too. Can't wait for the next sale!

The store has great products, but completely over priced.  If you find something you like, you can definitely find it cheaper online somewhere else.  Even with their sales, it is still more than regular price somewhere else.
Another problem I encountered was...I fell in love with a pair of boots and they only had it in one location. Any other store would be happy to ship the pair of boots over for your to try to see if they fit properly.  Even if you had to pay up front first, they would return your money if they didn't fit properly.  BUT nope.... GP likes to charge your credit card, then send the boots over, and if they don't fit,  "too bad" you only get a STORE CREDIT.  YES, people, ONLY A STORE CREDIT!  So they can be $500-700 shoes, but because you bought them, and that's their store policy, they will NOT return your money.  I think its completely crazy!  Of course I would keep them if they fit, but if they didn't and I'm still sitting at your store, you are not giving my money back??  I think they need to re-evaluate their "store policy" as I find that they do this to rip customers off.   Definitely an unsatisfied customer!  I would rather shop in the States, at least they have better customer service!

WOW THIS PLACE IS EXPENSIVE.... Seems a little Edmonton-phony- wannabe New York or Los Angeles, but we aren't but we'll still play funky tunes on the sound system and staff the store with uber- cool hyper-tattoed, over-pierced slackers who basically hang out there; they are not that much into product knowledge or customer help.  Exudes pretentiousness, but HEY if you are a 20 year old student and have $700 to spend on a thin flimsy T shirt and one pair of mega trendy shoes, more power to you.  I've shopped in New York and London... This place is just for the Edmonton wannabe suckers who yearn to be urban cool... But sadly, are not!

It is great that this store is still going strong, but I feel they need to step up their quality of their online service. If a customer has ordered something, they should check to see if he or she has any questions for them to answer that are included in the order or in emails BEFORE actually processing the order. This is to make sure the customer didn't order the wrong size because sizing can vary between different brands.

Please consider this as constructive criticism because I do want to continue buying from your store and I want your store to continue being successful!

Wow. I can't begin to share how much trouble I have had shopping at Gravity Pope this year. It was my first time purchasing a pair of shoes through this shop, and I must say, I will NEVER darken the doorway of this shop again. It was not a good experience at all. I had to return a pair of boots, because they did not fit properly. These boots had taken forever for GP to order in for me, and the salesperson, when I went to try them on, had very little knowledge about the boot, the fit, or the company.

After many phone calls with GP, and bringing the boots in to have them assessed, the store finally conceded to returning the boots, and allowed me to exchange for a pair of boots of my choice. It took nearly a month to get a new pair of boots (Fluevogs)  to replace the ones that I returned. I felt frustrated that I had to go through all that, but was happy to have a pair of boots that finally would fit and that I could be excited about. And then..the soles on my new Fluevog boots began to separate after 2 months, and I took them to GP to get some advice, and ask them what they could do to help me fix this so i could continue to wear my boots. I was told to bring the boots in, and they would have a cobbler take a look at them. By this time, i was more than frustrated- I was in search of a solution. The boots were $400, and this was unacceptable.

I followed through, to my boots to GP to have the cobbler look at them on a Saturday. I phoned them a few days later, to check in on the status of the boots. I was first told they did not have them in the shop- the cobbler had them still. This was on the following Thursday I called. I phoned again that weekend, and was told to come and pick them up. When I got to GP, I was told that the boots had never gone to the cobblers, that he had looked at them in the store and said "they were fine" and the separation would not be a problem at all. I was irrate. I knew there was something wrong with the soles, and that I was not being paranoid. Other trusted friends of mine had looked at them, and reassured me that I was not making this up.

A couple weeks later, after wearing the boots a few times, i realized the separation was getting worse and I needed something to be done, or they might become unwearable. I emailed GP asking for help, again, even though I was tired honestly of feeling like a complainer. I didn't receive an email back, until a week or so later, and by that time, I had already called Fluevog directly, and they were glad to help find a solution for me.

I will never shop at GP again, and will advise others not to as well. I felt like I was bothering them with the things I was concerned about. The staff were not knowledgable about the two styles of boots I purchased, and I felt like I was being patronized when I went into the store to share my concerns with them, and ask for something to be done. Really?! This is sad. Your shoes are expensive, and that alone should guarantee better service. I expect alot when I am paying for quality, and I am disappointed and frustrated that this was not my experience.

I've been going to Gravity Pope for a long time and 15 years ago, this was a very different store. They used to focus more on very casual fashion. When I was a teenager, I bought a Smurf "boozy" shirt here. (Those were the days.) But over the years, their fashion has become more edgy, funky, and expensive. Gravity Pope now focuses mostly on shoes, and they have grown to have the largest and best selection for funky, stylish, and just plain awesome shoes in the entire city.

Their selection is wide, from very casual to very classy. I think that most anyone, both men and women, who walks in here can tap into their personal style. Most of their shoes are very expensive and not really affordable for me. Not that it matters anyway, because I wear size 11.5, and they very rarely carry anything in this size for women. This annoys me, because I know that a lot of the brands they carry have up to size 12. I actually emailed GP's manager about this, but it was like he didn't even know. Even so, they have a nice selection of unisex sneakers like Converse and Pony.

Be careful before opening your wallet here though; I've seen many of the shoes they carry on the Internet for less.

Thanks to Britaney, I was reminded of the great sale of Nov 11,2010 in which I made my wife wait in line for their temp. outlet store for about 2 hours in cooler temps. I seen mothers make their little toddlers wait so I knew this store must be good. I had never been in this store before so I just went in the line, because it seemed like the cool thing to do on whyte that day. I work alot of trade like shows and have been getting sore feet in my old age of 40 something. Well, I found a pair half off for about 80 dollars. WOW, my feet make love in these shoes! I don't know what kind of elves make these shoes, but my peds never get sore anymore! I have to be on my feet all night at shows, and go home with great feet!

I think gravity pope is a little over rated to be honest with you.

Yes, the shoes are good quality. And yes, if you shop at gravity pope you  are probably the coolest person in your group of friends, but you got these good quality hoes and cool persona at a high cost.

I can't afford most of the shoes here, but sometimes they have really awesome sales. The last time I was in there they had a 2 for 1 sale, which really surprised me. But of course the sale items are last sizes and styles, so if you find a pair you like, you had better hope they are in your size.

The people that wok here are also pretty helpful but there really isn't anything special about the way they help you.

You want good quality shoes and a cool persona? Open up your wallet!

Gravity Pope is definitely eye-candy for your feet. If you're a shoe fanatic like me, you have to be careful and space your visits here, otherwise you'll be bankrupt in no time. They have some of the top brands for trendy tootsies, but you'll also be paying high-end prices. Their sale prices are pretty reasonable, but that's when they do go on sale, which isn't often.

The store layout is mostly trendy and dressy shoes and boots at the front, with women's on the left and men's on the right. Towards the end of the store you start seeing more of the casual and comfortable shoes, but still very pricey. If you want a whole Gravity Pope outfit and have the money to splurge, check out their clothing store Gravity Pope Tailored Goods on Gateway Blvd, just near the Old Strathcona Farmers Market.

I'm a sucker for great shoes.

There's no better way to separate this fool from his money.

This is the Wayne Gretzky of shoe stores.    So much greater than anyone else who plays the game.  A legend in it's own time.

Brilliant selection.  Hard to find brands like Cydwoq and Trippen side by side more common labels like Varvatos and Paul Smith.

    Excellent presentation.

    Helpful staff.

A reason to come to Edmonton.

Pretty shoes. Such pretty shoes. Everyone needs pretty shoes to help those feet thingies look, well, better!! I'm just not a fan of feet, but Gravity Pope helps me love them just a little more.

This store has some of the best shoes in the city as far as I know. They carry all sorts of shoes from sneakers, to heels, to flats, to boots to men's sneakers, heels flats and boots! I love the smell of leather as you walk in.

I fell in love with a 500$ pair of boots that unfortunately, I don't think I could ever own, but I sure enjoyed looking, touching, and trying these beautiful boots. I settled instead for a lovely pair of flats that I know I will enjoy for a long time.

This store is great for unique fashion finds and all sorts of funky shoes that will be sure to stand out. There are plenty of hard to find Brands here and just overall shoe love for those who care to part with some cash.

Gravity Pope is a shoe diva's dream, but dreaming is when I shop there! Needless to say it's pricey. However, their selection is WOW and you'll find shoes there you won't find at the mall from heels to flats, boots to running shoes. Trendy, trendy, trendy!

I will say I bought a pair of walking shoes that were worth every penny! I wore them until the sole wore through. You will get good value for your money though.

Gravity Pope fits perfectly into the retail offering of Whyte Ave. Dont' feel out of place when you walk in as you may be greeted by a young "I don't care about you" attitude and lack of service. Go for the shoes, not the service.

I wouldn't call myself a shoe addict  by any means but I know a couple who would probably need rehab after this store. They have such a great selection of unique shoes, classic looking ones as well as futuristic. I think the best word to describe their shoes is funky.

I would definitely stop in here when I am looking for a new pair of shoes or sneakers or kicks or whatever they are being called these days. Some of the prices are very ridiculous, especially for girls but most of their stuff isn't outrageous. I don't think any shoe lovers would be scared off by the prices.

The staff is really great too.

I rarely stop into Gravity Pope because I don't make as much money as Oprah and that is how high their prices are.  OK, not quite that high, but they are freaking expensive.

When I do stop in, I always enjoy browsing because they have some really funky and unique shoes.  Being a shoe addict, I can appreciate a nice pair of shoes, regardless of whether I can afford them or not.

The staff is always nice and I'm never hesitant to approach them.  They are friendly so it makes it easy.

I've never been in for a big sale but the smaller sales I've seen did not impress me.  10% off of $300 is not going to make any difference.  I still won't buy your shoes.

If you have the money to spend and can't think of anywhere else to spend it, you could get yourself some unique and beautiful shoes from Gravity Pope!  If not, you'll live!

Hands-down my favourite shoe store (probably favourite store overall) in town. While some of the other reviewers talk about how pricey GP is, I would have to disagree a bit because I think there's a pretty wide range. What I like the most is that whoever is in charge of purchasing is constantly looking for up-and-coming designers and keeping every category of shoe up-to-date with the very best of what's out there. Whether you're looking for casual flip flops to the sexiest of stilettos and everything in between, chances are you'll find that perfect pair here. This place is an institution and will continue to be so, as long as that laser focus on quality and what's new and innovative remains.

My shoe fetish made me spend money here. How could you not, with row upon row of cool footwear with label names like John Fluvog, Kenneth Cole, Moma, Joe Sanchez, Michael Kors, Paul Smith and Steve Madden. Be prepared to pay top dollar for feet that make a statement - like the new Paul Smith buckle boot for $595. They're not all that expensive. You can get a stylish pair of pumps for just over $100, or less, if you hit a season's-end clearance sale. I saw a gorgeous pair of summer open toe shoes for $80, but that doesn't help me with fall shopping. Gravity Pope also carries Uggs, if you want to join the bandwagon sporting designer treads from Down-Under. They cost about the same here as they do anywhere else, unless you find a reliable wholesale distributor on the web.

I am not a regular Gravity Pope shopper, I just step into the store occasionally out of curiousity. I know that many hip and trendy Edmontonians consider Gravity Pope a shoe heaven and I can see why - never in my life have I seen so many unusual and funky pairs of shoes. The selection of both women's and men's footwear is fantastic. Having said that, I cannot give Gravity Pope more than three stars out of five for two reasons - the prices are too high, and the shoes are too "unique-looking". If I am willing to pay $500 for a pair of shoes, I would much rather prefer these shoes to look classic and be of timeless beauty (i.e. Prada). Ironically, I liked Gravity Pope's selection of men's shoes a lot better than their selection of women's shoes. The former seem to look more classic and toned down. My mind boggled when I picked up a pair of women's shoes (I wish I could remember the brand), checked a price tag and saw $1200. This price tag still haunts me in my sleep!
I checked out some of the brands Gravity Pope carries, and here are some I remember: Calvin Klein, Michael  Kors, Kenneth Cole, Fillipa K, Camper, Patagonia and Tracey Neuls. You can check company's website to see the list of all the brands.
P.S. The customer service is great.
