So after vowing to never ever going back to my dealer for any future servicing, I decided to try out another Toyota servicing location before going into the local car shop.
Phoning in to make an appointment reflected their quality of customer service really well. Despite the fact that Granville Toyota has two servicing locations: One on Fraser St. and the other on Granville/41st which shared a switchboard with each other and the car dealership, I was transferred with ease to the servicing location that I wanted. None of that no answering during business hours thing I had previously experienced with my dealer, and definitely no automatic forwarding to voicemail after the prolonged ringing.
The service guy I got on the phone was friendly and very attentive -- and even reminded me to bring in something with my VIN on it (because I am not in their system). When I arrived to the service center, I was greeted by the same person I talked to on the phone and he had already noted down all the things I told him I wanted checked on the phone.
As most of you may have already heard of the huge Toyota recall kafafel -- the level of service I got from this place definitely reassured me of Toyota as a customer-focused brand. The service guy explained both of my recall notices thoroughly with me. Prior to getting my car serviced, I honestly was not all that clear on what the recalls were about, just something about sudden accelerations and something about the accelerator getting stuck over time. Speaking with the Toyota service guy really cleared everything out for me.
What's that? I needed to get back to UBC for class soon? No problem! You can take the free shuttle! The driver will take you back!
Oh and what? You need a ride to come back out and get your car? Sure, just let the driver know where and when to pick you up!
I didn't even ask for this service. I was thinking of taking the bus back...but how can one refuse free rides?

So what are your stereotypes of auto shops?
This service centre for the dealership might break them!
While in the waiting room I overheard two mechanics having a heated debate about the difference between politicians' ethical transgressions and CEO's ethical transgressions.
This was after they had a long debate about the separation of private/professional lives for famous athletes like Tiger Woods. They had gone into a deep analysis of Tiger Woods' press conference, and the implications it has for race relations as well.
I think they should rename this dealer service centre, "Mr. Toyoda's Art House Cafe." They WERE serving Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate after all, have free wifi, and a visit comes with entertaining cafe conversation that would be worthy of the cafes in Berkeley, California!
Oh, and as a bonus you get your car serviced while being entertained by the debates among the mechanics (if you choose to not take advantage of their free shuttle driver service to drop you off and pick you back up when your car is ready)!Listed in: Free Vancouver Wifi, Cars
