Went for lunch and had a great dining experience. We got there at 11:30am (when they open) and were seated easily.
The lunch is pricey for lunch but the quality is very good and they make sure that you're well taken care of. We had a nice conversation with the manager when my dad asked them to replace his crab and shrimp salad (he's allergic to cilantro) and the manager ended up comping both of our desserts!
Good food, nice dining experience, expensive, but worth it for a nice time on Granville Island. -

I've been to a few kegs. I've been to this Granville Island Keg a few times. But for some reason this time three things were not up to par.
1. The first fork I got was dirty, they didn't do a good job cleaning the fork.
2. The kegs I go to I usually get a fairly large Caesar salad, with the salad covering the whole plate. This time I saw white plate, the amount of salad wasn't what I was use to.
3. My buddy ordered a Root Beer soda, however it didn't taste like root beer. The soda mix was incorrect.
Service was fine. -

I have to start with their best dish. Strike that, their best 'side' dish-- mac n' cheese. Truffle oil mac n' cheese. Who knew?
If you're not at the keg for prime rib or steak, you're left with looking at the menu and thinking...hmmm...there really is nothing else that's terribly appetizing.
That day, I was feeling nosh-y as opposed to hungry. Ordered a caesar salad and side mac n' cheese. The caesar was unusually small and sparse (as in it looked like it had about 3 pieces of greens in it)...upon pointing it out to the server she rectified the problem (got the kitchen to pile some more on) and all was good.
No worries though 'cause we were more than occupied with the ooey gooey toasty truffled mac n' cheese.
Even my partner's prime rib could not keep his attention. He kept dipping into my cheese. He ate half of it I'm sure.
So, I would say, the prime rib is always good (pretty standard stuff)...what I think they need to work on is their sides for the prime rib (as in some grilled veggies or something rather than the pile of dessicated onion rings displayed on the plate). Apparently the french onion soup is good too.
The star of the show was the mac n' cheese.
At the end of our meal, we both realized we had no money, no credit cards, no wallet to pay with...and one of us had to run home to get something to pay for what was already half digested in us. Upon return, the server had a nice treat for us.
What I like about this place-- the service, the beer, and the....(don't want to keep repeating myself=). -

I needed a steak close to home, so the GI Keg was mentioned, I have not been in it for 10 years so wondering what it's like these days away we went. It was good, 3 star good which for a chain is better than 3 star good for an independent. The prime rib was med rare and juice and the baked potato was well baked. They have a good wine list of lower range bottles, lots to go with steak, but it a steak house, eh.
The service was very good, we had a server in training and Catlin was a-ok. -
Review from Barry M.
Seeing the picture of the prime rib posted in the listing was enough for my brain to exclaim: "I WANT THAT." It was everything I imagined it would be.
Service was outstanding, the guy wasn't overbearing at all and seemed to enjoy his job.
The dessert prices were very reasonable too (below $7 for most items). -

It was nearly 2:30 and we hadn't had lunch so we decided to eat at the first place we saw on Granville Island after finding a parking spot. I was a little disappointed that the first place we saw was a chain, but I'd never been to a Keg before so I figured why not.
I ordered their salad and soup of the day combo (cream of asparagus - very good, not too heavy with the asparagus taste) and my boyfriend had a burger. I had a few bites of his burger and thought it was pretty good, but he said there was something a little different about the meat that he didn't care for. While overall our meal was perfectly fine, I'm not sure if I'd specifically seek out another Keg anytime in the near future. -
Review from David L.
This was my first time eating at The Keg, so I had to ask a few of my coworkers what they liked. I came here for my workplace Christmas lunch get-together, so I decided to order the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. It started out positive. The pre-meal complimentary bread tasted freshly baked and it was soft and even buttery. I didn't even have to add any butter.
When the dish arrived, I was a little shocked. I asked for medium-rare, and the prime rib looked like if it was almost raw. Only the outer section of the prime rib looked cooked and it was bloody red everywhere else. The prime rib tasted bland and I couldn't understand why people even raved about it. The outer section of the prime rib was the most flavourful because it was seasoned. The seasoning tasted like your run-of-the-mill Montreal steak spice from Costco. The dish came with mash potatoes and it was flavourful and I could taste the garlic too. There were horshradish and gravey included in the dish too. Both added some nice flavours to the prime rib and mash potatoes. Also included in the dish was some sort of fried thin worm-like potatoes. Although it was tasty, it was very greasy and a small side salad would have been a better idea. The option was never on the menu.
The service was could have been better. I was never asked if I liked my dish, but my water was refilled twice. The ambience the of restaurant was quite nice for such an old restaurant. Everything looked clean and tidy, but it was quite dark. There were some nice artwork on the walls too.
I really can't recommend their famous prime rib at this location. It just wasn't really good at all, and they just didn't get it right. Medium-rare shouldn't look like a raw piece of meat. -

My wedding party came here for dinner and we all ordered the prime rib. This was the first Keg I had ever been to so I had no idea what to expect. The service was great and so was the meal. In fact, I told them that was the best steak I ever had outside of Texas! My mouth waters right now just thinking about it. I have been to other Kegs and it just wasn't the same. I have yet to go back to this particular one but they really made my wedding dinner fabulous!!

Ok I love Steak and we've been to this location a few times with out disappointment. Our Server Andrea rocked, possibly I made her a tad uncomfortable but I was a bit tired and I get over bearing.
She was fantastic!
The host/.manager was a bit over the top but tolerable.
The music was horrible and ambiance out of date... thats where I took off a point plus the fact that we did not get an answer of whether our meat was Canadian, if not we would NEVER go back. I'll research and update. Why support American Beef when they do not support ours the same way.
The Food, a tad over priced but DAMN good. Loved the Truffle Macaroni! YUM!
The over all experience was very good. I would go back IF I can find out that the meat is AAA Canadian beef and if they take some of that dough they rake in and do some renos~! (this includes non tattered menus)
Nice Over All

On our last day out in Vancouver we Big Bused it to Granville Island. It was really late in the afternoon when we got there. We didn't realize the public market and the shops closed at 7 pm and the Kids Market at six. We got a quick glimpse of the public market before it closed and the little ones wanted to check out a toy store but unfortunately it was closed too. Oh well, I guess this would be just another good reason to come back! http://media3.px.yelpc...
Pretty exhausted and hungry we dropped in at The Keg. We were happily greeted then seated right away.
I liked the semi-dim lit ambiance and the fireplace by our booth. Soon our server came and took our drinks order. I started with a nice cold Hef. It's our first time at The Keg, though the menu options looked familiar with prime rib, steak and seafood combos on the list.
Warm and soft bread served with butter joined us then we started off with Lobster Gratin - Oven-baked lobster meat with garlic, herbs and melted Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses. The girls shared Chicken Strips off the Kids Menu and the wife went with a menu special Lobster Combo with Shrimp. I decided on French Onion Soup and Prime Rib - Hand-carved Keg Size.
The lobster gratin was cheesy and buttery good! Wife was happy with her combo and the little ones killed the chicken strips. My French onion soup was nice and up to par. The prime rib was perfectly medium and packed with flavor goodness!
Overall service was fantastic!
I'm now a fan of this chain... -

This location is close to both Kitsilano and the West End if you enjoy a nice long walk after dinner.Celebrating our love for Lobsters Fest. We share everything we ordered including Calamari and Steak topped with Lobster and Scallops. The Keg is my favorite restaurant, however Granville island is my all time favorite one, I have NEVER been disappointed there. Try the a two lb Lobster to share. After dinner we walked over to the docks to watch sunset and walked home. Orgasmo Degusto!

Since my last negative experience at the Keg yaletown, I was pretty much done with the place. I've been going there since I was 14 maybe and nothing really changes and my taste buds have grown up and maybe it's time to move onto a more sophisticated steak house.
My coworker though, wanted to take me there because she had a gift certificate and actually called the restaurant to tell them I was pissed off at them and they better treat me good this time. Omg mortifying.
So we went, and it was wonderful. Super attentive service, the manager even came and made sure everything was alright and things were going smoothly. It also helped that it was still lobster summer. Such a good deal. A fresh Atlantic lobster for only $40!!! Or half a lobster with a steak for $36.99 I think. We all got the steak and lobster combo and it was so fantastic.
I guess I'll be returning every summer when they have the lobsters swimming in their tanks! -

With all Keg's being the same, but not- this one is reliable but defiitely not the best location. It's conveniently located on the tourist-friendly Granville Island and is generally reliable for all things red meat.
But take note:
1) For some reason this location ALWAYS ALWAYS overdoes things. I usually order medium rare steak or seared tuna- always overdone.
2) The decor is "meh". Like every keg, it is cozy, but after they opened the glammed up Yaletown location I can't understand why you would choose this place. oh -right- it's very family friendly
3) Why would you go to the Keg when you have other places in close proximity (i.e. afghan horsemen, bistrot bistro etc.
REally, this is the best family location for the tourist. If you're a local- I see no reason to come here.Listed in: Double Takes: not all…

I am pretty sure that The Keg Granville Island has not had an update since the 1980's...but aside from the the shabby outdated interior...the food is purdy fantastic!
The keg will never let you down on with their steak..old school steak with a nice baked potato and some steamed veggies are pretty much the best you will get...I recently had medium rare steak with blue cheese and the potato...cooked to perfection and super yummy!
I think my favorite part is the freshly cooked bread that they serve with fresh butter..mmmmmmmmmmmm...love my carbs,.....
The service was good as well.. attentive and prompt..just what I want when I am eating out! -

When I think of old school Vancouver-specific eateries, I think of the Big Three: White Spot, The Old Spaghetti Factory and, of course, The Keg. There's are reason these places are perennially popular: they have a nice friendly atmosphere and the food is pretty damn scrum-diddily-umptious. So for the out-of-towners out there looking for a classic Vancouver dining experience then The Keg would definitely be a good choice along with the other two mentioned though White Spot is probably a little on the casual side.
But this a review of the Granvile location...
Can't really go wrong with Granville Island other than trying to find a @$@% parking spot. Transit in if you can. LIke I said before, the food is awesome and service is really good. Top three best steak places in town.
Minus one star because of the lighting. It's so dark! And the meager lighting that there is placed in such a way that it casts shadows over yours and your fellow diner's eyes. Kind of disconcerting. Fix that and bump up the ambient lighting by 20% and this Keg is a 5/5 for sure. -

I went to the Keg for my birthday because I recieved a $100 gift certificate from my Dad as a gift. I was thrilled and so we went to the Keg that was closest to our home which was the granville island location. I didn't know this until we arrived, but it looks like it's the oldest location out of the vancouver restaurants ( I have been to the thurlow one and the one near Brandys that recently closed).
When we walked in there was a super 80's machismo print of a skiier in all his flourescent flight gear. Wholy schmoly the Decor is old! The washrooms have a highschool cafeteria feel to them. It looks like they tried to upgrade the washrooms by adding a mouthwash and hand lotion dispenser, but they had no products to dispense in both the male and female washrooms. Yikes that is cheesy!
BUT, the food is consistently great. Never have I been disapointed at the Keg with the food. So i'm willing to put aside their family values and cheesy decor for a great steak. I would bring my family here, NOT my girls looking for a night out on the town. Got it?!
Do a reno. You will improve your business and make this location a fun destination. -
Review from Michael L.
I actually didn't have too much food here...just several beers, some appetizers (fried calamari in a sweet and spicy sauce), and a taste of their macaroni and cheese.
That being said, that mac 'n cheese is something else. Creamy, not too salty- a perfect mix.
All in all, a decent pub 'n grub spot on the island. -

Was on the earlier side of lunch in Granville Island and this was the only place that had opened so far so we decided to give it a try.
Space is nice and big but in general nothing to write home about. The food was medicore and service was nothing great. I am sure there are plenty of other great places to try, we just didn't know where to find them or it was too early!
Also, for lunch I don't need to hear music appropriate for a night out at a bar blasting through the restaurant, we could barely hear each other talk! -

Old skool steak place....great for family even though parking is a bitach unless you go to a different location. MUST order the "MUSHROOM CAPS"....yes buttery & fatty...but freaking yummmy. Don't have any expectations on their steak.....

I chose the Keg for celebrating my birthday between other reasons because it's so close to home - and I am glad I did it. Everything ran smoothly from the phone reservation to the table and the food. The Keg is a traditional restaurant that doesn't try to be hip but excels on the quality of food and service. I went for comfort and a good meal and I got it.
My husband and I started with dirty martinis that could be icier but were pretty good. Both his steak and mine were cooked to a perfect medium rare and the sides were good portions of mashed potato (for him) and baked potato (for me). He added a crab cluster to his order and we had fun braking the crab and dipping in melted hot butter.
The dessert (one creme brullee to share) came as a courtesy for my birthday and with a little candle. Price was more than fair and the service was excellent.
I save my five stars for the outstanding restaurants, the ones that surprise me with something more than perfect - that's the only reason the Keg got four. We had an amazing time and definitely recommend the place. -

Keg - decent steaks, can make them better at home except I don't cook so on a night when I need my red meat the Keg does the job. This is how it goes, walk in, order a beer and some appies. Jen likes the baked garlic shrimp and shrooms neptune so thats what we do. shrmp is bakes with wine and cheese in escargot dish things... I only know they are for escargo after searching the city for them for Jen. On a side note they are hard to find.
Where were we?, oh yeah skip the salad, do the rib eye or prime rib dinner with mash and baked potato, bernaise and good old steak sauce. Skip the sides, who needs veg. Jen always makes me save room for the billy miner and I love her ever more for it. -
Review from Reena M.
Well it's not my favorite place to dine at, and I wouldn't really go here on my own decision. But the food is good if you're into steaks and lobster (I'm not so much into steak...). You do pay a shiny penny for it, considering it's a chain, but it's steak and lobster. Their sticky toffee pudding didn't meet British standards apparently either.

I was in Vancouver visiting friends and for the Olympics, and we felt like prime rib. The Keg is where we ended up. The restaurant was huge, but eating areas were sectioned off so it was somewhat cozy, but still loud from other diners as well as the bar (Olympic coverage was on). It was pretty much like any other steak or meat type restaurant.
The food itself was fine. The primerib was well cooked, but a little too herbal for me (or maybe it was the sauce). The only thing that bothered me was that veggies = lots of mushrooms, a few carrots and a few pieces of broccoli. -

This is going to sound like a bad review, but just read and on and see...
I arranged to have my Christmas party at the Keg and made reservations for 11. I arrived early with my boyfriend and was lead to two separate tables that were set for 8. To say the least I was not pleased. I asked for the manager and she said that she would add a chair to the end of the rectangular table and squish in an extra seat at the circular table. That only gave us 10 seats so she said that she would add in another at the circular table...BS!! She said this was the best we could get right away because the restaurant was so busy. Our other option was to wait for another table that was leaving soon. We waited.
By the time the table was ready the rest of the party arrived and we all sat down. The new table barely fit 10 of us so it was lucky we had some small females in our group and one cancellation.
Knowing we were not pleased with the situation and the manager told me that she was going to take care of us.
Despite the rough start, our server was great and made sure to not only provide great service but entertainment as well bc he was so funny. The food was excellent and came out exactly the way we wanted. We ordered about 7 appetizers, numerous drinks, full meals and a few desserts. In the end the manager ended up taking care of all our appys which was well over $70.
Sure, the start of our night wasn't so good, but by the end we were all happy and over-stuffed with great food.
