Went here for the first time last night and it was great! The downstairs is a bit depressing, with the super bright lights and old men in sweat pants. But the upstairs disco bowling is awesome! I'm pretty much a huge fan of anything glow in the dark, so I'm fairly easy to please. The games are reasonably priced, as are the drinks, which means I can drown my sorrows when I lose game after game!

Sayyyyy whaaaaat? I haven't written a review yet? I go here a lot. I live across the street. I was here today(!!!!!!) and I am thoroughly impressed by the staff and facility every time. They are also great at accomodating large groups of kids. Really? I haven't reviewed yet? Weird.

We seem to come here for everybody's birthday. I'm a crappy bowler, but I can't help but have fun at Grandview. You can play 5 pin, 10 pin, or glow bowling upstairs, but I always stick with 10 pin. If you come early enough you can do the three game special which is the best bet, pricewise.
I've never tried the food, but they have a variety of Grower's flavours for those of us who can't drink the beer.
The best thing about this place is the staff. The guy we always see on Saturday nights is so friendly, understanding when we have to wait for the whole group to get there to make a decision about the number of games, and even stayed open for us one time when one of his coworkers failed to show up and he was there by himself. Okay, so maybe that means not -all- their staff are great, but the ones I've interacted with have been fantastic.
Always ready to go back here for more bowling!Listed in: Date night!

First floor was all taken on a Friday night by what seemed to be a Chinese middle-aged league. Our reservation was upstairs, with the black lights. I wonder who started the black light bowling thing?
Anyways, they honoured my Yelp Check-In Offer (1 free game worth $5). We had a few hiccups (people were already in the lane we were told to use; the lane we were told to use instead had another party's names on the screen; they got our names on the next lane; they actually needed a few lanes together for another booking, so they moved us to another lane in the middle of a game; the pin-setting machine froze a few times), but each problem was resolved in two minutes by friendly staff, so we are willing to give them another try.
All the lanes I saw (upstairs and down) were five-pin. -

From the warm and worn feeling those silver rental shoes give you to the team name selections on the retro screens - you have to love it here! On my last visit, for a charity fundraiser, I was "turkey" while my teammates went by Sparrow-Eagle-Loon-BlueJay. Oh good fun!
If you're ever wanting to "spice it up" a bit, try "Crazy Bowling,"
Here are some fun rules which work well for 5 pin:
Frame 1: Bowl with your "Other" hand
Frame 2: Sit on the floor and bowl between your legs
Frame 3: Stand and bowl between your legs
Frame 4: Spin around 3 times and bowl
Frame 5: Bowl backwards
Frame 6: Hold hands with someone in the land next to you and bowl
Frame 7: Close your eyes and bowl
Frame 8: Bowl on your knees
Frame 9: Bowl from the back of the lane
Frame 10: Line up all of your fellow bowlers and bowl through their legs -

Host to many wandering day camps, high school gym classes, and children's birthday parties, Grandview Lanes is still home to a vast array of bowlers who prefer the less strenuous lighter balls. While most of the lanes are set up for 5 pins, there are a couple of lanes available for the 10 pin purists out there.
One thing for certain is that everybody of age can enjoy the $5 hotdog and beer combo, and those looking for watered down excitement can try their neon lit hand at disco bowling, located upstairs. Ask the front desk about changing the radio station to Motown though, they are willing. -

This is a family-run, old-fashioned bowling alley. They've been in business since the 40s, and the decor probably hasn't changed all that much - and I do mean that in a good way. It's retro, but it's authentic retro. Downstairs, where you enter, there's ye olde snack bar and a big board of all the league players. Upstairs is the glow bowling, which costs just a bit more per game, but it's fun for parties.
I'm a sucky bowler, so somehow doing it in the dark with music makes it more fun. Most of the lanes here are five-pin, which I hear is a strange concept to Americans. It's a lot easier to throw the ball in a five-pin game, if a bit harder to knock down the pins. All in all, good clean fun to be had at Grandview. -

This alley has both 5 and 10 pin bowling and has very friendly staff.

I'm from Seattle and do not know what 5 pin bowling is. The owner told us to bowl in lane 1, which happened to be a 5 pin lane. Without ever starting, we asked the owner if we could switch to a 10 pin lane, which nobody was using. The owner refused, saying our time had already started and there was no way in hell we could switch. After 15 minutes of discussing whether we should just leave after paying for nothing, the lady finally let us switch, although she made it clear that she was reluctant to do so. She made sure we knew that we now only had 45 minutes, instead of the full hour we paid for, despite the fact that we hadn't even started bowling.
We went at 1pm on New Years Day, when literally all the lanes were open and nobody was waiting. When she made sure we were aware that we had only 45 minutes, she might have saved 15 minutes for another group (although there were none), but she also lost us and our family and our friends in the vancouver area forever. We will never bowl at this place again due to the owner's general unfriendliness and attitude.Comment from Tammy M. of Grandview Lanes 4/27/2011

I'll give this place 3.5 stars. It's a great neighbourhood bowling lane, with the exception that they only have beer in cans, there is no food available on site and it's five-pin bowling.
There are some lanes with ten-pin bowling but often they are taken, so if you are planning on going bowling, reserve ahead of time and show up early. This place fills up by 8pm every night.Comment from Tammy M. of Grandview Lanes 4/27/2011

We had a LOT of fun bowling with our old friends this winter. This is really a neighbourhood hot spot.
PLEASE NOTE: They are remodeling at this time. The sign on the door says it will be done by the end of July.
We'll check back, as I am sure many others are awaiting the renewal as well.
Hmmm... I'm thinking Yelp event???Listed in: It's raining... get inside…

Man it was hot in there. Did anyone else notice the old skool ceiling fan(s?) on the ceiling that weren't turned on? I couldn't see a cord or a switch for them anywhere.
This was a great event, thanks for organizing the meet-up Crystal! Lots of fun, and I even remembered some names! -

All these yelpers at the meet-up and no reviews yet??
First of all, huge kudos to Crystal for planning and organizing! LOL, they really should include weather forecaster in your job description :)
Location was easy to get to and it was well organized from the food (Uncle Fatih's pizza) to the games. It was awesome that the staff kept refilling the water pitchers upstairs. We were supposed to stay inside but staff were nice about letting us go outside in the bowling shoes because it was so hot.
That's the only negative about the place - I wish they had fans going or AC... it was like an oven in there which took away from things a bit, but otherwise it was fun! Nice to meet everyone and no bribery allowed with the bowling pics :) -

Was a great evening, where to start?
Excellent venue- I love that you can rent out the entire upstairs area. Of course bowling in the 21st century is a crazy experience of black lights and martian landscapes. Of course...
Pizza- Uncle Fatih's delivered so many great varieties of pizza. It was dark, so I'm not sure what toppings I tried, but they were good!
Yelping Fun- Great people and a lot of good times. Thanks Crystal.
See you all at the next event :) -

How can I possibly gave this place more than 1 star when they charge my 1 1/2 year old full price... Yeah, she was up there knocking down strike after strike. What a joke. Plus there isn't much vibe in there. It's cafeteria bright. Not a fan.

What a fun way to spend a Wednesday evening. Grandview Lanes treated us well and Uncle Fatih's Pizza was a tasty treat. Crystal threw a great event. Who knew that bowling with an oven mitt could be so fun? I also learned that I am a better bowler when I bowl with my other hand and with my eyes closed. Sad, but true. Can't wait for the next Yelp event! My only request for next time is name tags. I recognized a lot of faces, but am terrible with names. I need visual cues!

So much fun! Crystal was an amazing hostess and everyone had a great time despite the Maui-esque temp! I thought I was just breaking a sweat from bowling so well. Maybe not!

What can I say, it was a blast! Only real negative was how hot it was upstairs. But even with that I would happily do it again.

Love the 5 pin bowling upstairs, it's dark with colorful lights and glow-in-the-dark fun paintings on the walls. Great for a birthday (which i've done a few times!) with friends, fun photo ops, drinks. Love it! :D
