My mom had a 2 for 1 coupon, however, the smell of Mexican food just hypnotized us. Mexican food is gluten free and very low in sugar, therefore, this makes me happy. It took a bit to convince my mom to give up her 2 for 1 and have some Mexican with me, however, after we shared a mother/daughter moment of me putting a taco together...it was all good. It was $10 all you can eat Mexican buffet. It wasn't the most awesome Mexican buffet but you get what you paid for and then some. I was impressed with the grilled veggies and the beef....they did it better than I could at home.
I've been there twice and the hostess was really friendly both times. I don't know her name, however, she carries a lot of pens in her pocket, therefore, I refer to her as the "pen lady" 'cause I know that she will never loose a pen.
They played the hockey game in the background on the big screen, Avalance Vs. Canucks. I am not into hockey, however, appreciated the game in the background as this provided a buffer and an excuse not to engage in an awkward conversation with my mom. I successfully got to avoid the, "where do you see your life going conversation." Followed by the traditional, "When are you going to stop dying your hair blue and pink conversation."
I don't gamble, therefore, my mom left me to write in my journal in one of the lounges while she played the slots. It was a relaxing atmosphere where I was sitting to pass the time.
Thankfully it was a short ride home 'cause as fast as the Mexican went in my mouth...it came out faster the other end. The ride involved rolling down the window as well. -

Went to the Scala lounge with a few friends for their Tuesday Tex Mex BBQ beef ribs buffet. I've been here before for this and for the breakfast buffet.
You can do a lot better elsewhere, this is just ok food and its hit or miss. For example the beef ribs I had last time were much better than the ones tonight. It's also a VERY limited selection for a buffet.
It's not really worth going except to get a lot of one type of food for the price. -

Beautiful Casino, good layout, lively and happening.
I usually put my 20's in the Sex in the City slot machine. I'm a winner less than 50% of the time but lately I've been just losing. You have to be careful. Some of those machines can suck your money if you play for a little while and somehow break even cash out and run!
Be aware that cash vouchers expire after 30 days!
The food experiences have always been terrible here.
I love my occasional fast food but it seems the A&W people don't speak English or just play dumb.
I also went on a different occasion to one of the bars, I think called Scala and the service was horrible. The server never came to check on us, not even look our direction even though the bar faced us and she was right behind the counter. The food was medicore. The cheese was not melted in the paninni. It ruined the experience.
Neverttheless it's a beautiful Casino with plenty to choose from and it's right off the highway.
Any day of the week you may have trouble with parking but you will find something eventually. -

I'm no gambler as I lose 99% of the time, but once in a while I'll throw down my $20 playing roulette.
Being smaller than River Rock and not by a skytrain makes this a place less busy so you don't have to scramble over people to bet.
I lost my $20 but as usual, one of my buddies won $180 on his first round, clearly pissing off the idiots who play (and lose) $200/round.Comment from Lui G. of Grand Villa Casino 6/14/2011
Thanks for visiting Mark! Glad to hear you and your buddies… More » -

Went here for the Flavours of the World buffet, and last night, it was Mediterranean.
Food: Delicious. The chicken was cooked right, rice was a good consistency, great hummus, baklava, bread, and other dishes that unfortunately I can't pronounce, lol
Service: We didn't really exist for the entire time. We sat ourselves, fetched our own cutlery, and waited for drinks for about 15 minutes.
Atmosphere: It felt like we were crashing someone's lunch party......an hour after it finished. It was just an awkward area of the casino to place a dinner table, and there wasn't a welcoming, restaurant-cozy feel at all.
5 * for the food (Yums!) but 1* for everything else (bla...). I think I'll meander down to a real Greek restaurant next time. :-) -

Being the typical vietnamese tourists in Vancouver, our family friends brought us to our first stop.... the CASINO!
It is definitely small but tries to have that Vegas feel to it with the decor and lighting. The place somewhat reminds me of Planet Hollywood Hotel with its zebra striped like pillars and dimmed lighting. This casino is 2 floors and very spacious. Both tables and slot machines available on both floors. The 2nd floor is connected to the garage parking structure which helps us stay warm for a longer period of time. Security are located everywhere around the casino. It wasn't too crowded on a wednesday night indeed.
Roulette- $1 minimum inside.. $5 minimum outside.. not bad!!!! won't get me scared as much as the high $ betting in Vegas I had to go through my first time gambling!
Definitely a decent alternative if you can't afford going to Vegas in the meantime though! -

Not a bad casino, but there are no low bet blackjack tables. Minimum of $15? I'm a student. Yes probably shouldn't be coming to a casino if I'm a student. But if I'm looking to throw away my money, I'm planning to get rid of it as slowly as possible.
However, the look is cool since it's new. And it's nearby so I may return.Comment from Lui G. of Grand Villa Casino 6/22/2010

This new replacement casino for Gateway is most definitely a step up from what it was previously.
With River Rock starting the trend, there's been a fast a furious renovation taking place at practically every pre-existing casino in the area. This is one of them that's been taking place for a few years and is finally open. (Although the parking structure they kept from yore is still in dire straits).
In terms of decor it is very nicely done. With beiges, taupes, and other earthly colours there is a very warm feeling once you enter this place.
The casino resides on two floors with the table games on the lower/main level and it all encompasses a central bar.
The crowd here still seems pretty sketch like the days of Gateway, however just on new machines and tables.
It is still new and looks like there is still much to improve here, more servers for one would be nice. -
Review from Jenni B.
This newly-ish opened casino is worth a look; stepping into the facility through the main entrance is reminisent of a Vegas casino. One thing I like is that security seems to be pretty tight, weekend nights they tend to ID anyone who looks underage and security is very visible on the floor.
There are lots of tables to play at this casino, so if that is your preference this place is worth checking out. I have heard of some people having some great luck here (like turning $13 on roulette into $750). If slots are your preference there is many to play, but like all Gateway casinos if you like the penny slots finding them can be difficult.
There are a few restuarants here so its a one stop for a night out of food, drinks and gambling. The design is the building interior is spectular, it has a very funky feel to it.
All in all, it is worth going to take a look at. -

I am sure the service is normally better than what i recieved, with that said they serve vodka which is just great for me. I dont really gamble much and didnt when i was there, but i found it quite odd that there are no poker tables. So dont waqste your time if thats what your after.

I don't recall what the minimum for the craps table was since it's been a while since I visited here (around a year ago), but I do remember walking out with an extra $100! It took a while for this one guy's luck to run out and I milked it! The dealer and the gamblers were all really friendly and helpful. The decor was really nice to look at if you're not into gambling but have to hang out. There is no smoking inside which is a big plus.

Stopped by here today to get a bite and see what the atmosphere was like. Happily, the casino is much nicer than I thought. 2 floors, with a couple of balconies outside that you can either sit out and have a meal or just sit.
Nice lounge upstairs and good mix of restaurants. I ordered the Villa Burger on the main floor. The service was unfriendly, except for the manager that kept a smile. The burger was underwhelming. Felt like I had to go eat again 25 minutes later. Otherwise, I had no complaints. Will return there for a good sporting event or after work drinks. Nice place overall.
Parking was limited until I learned there was a parkade across the street with a pedway connecting the casino. -

Friday night buffet was Italian. They had a selection of one green salad, gnocchi, risotto, spaghetti, lasagna, chicken & tiramisu for dessert. Waitress's were helpful n attentive very quick to bring what you needed. Overall good value for an all you can eat buffet, fresh quality ingredients.

This is the second time I've been to the Grand Villa - first during the opening weekend when it was completely rammed... and now.. just out of boredom on a Saturday night... definitely calmed down in the number of gamblers but a good crowd none the less. At the time between 10pm to 12am... almost all the tables were filled. Wanting to play black jack, there was less than a minimum of $15, which was surprising because roulette tables started at $1. Tables are definitely limited and it can cause lots of crowding, leading to less space to watch or to slip in to an opening. The upstairs consists of all slot machines with lots of variety, like any casino would.. but overall it is a lot smaller than say...the Fallsview in Niagara Falls.
The sound stage, I'm not sure was either trying to cater everyone's tastes or was showcasing a night of music from the 60's to the top 40.. because the selection was just plain awkward. -

i ended up here being dragged by my aunts and uncles - without them telling me until we got there.. not really knowing what to expect. we had just gone drinking somewhere in downtown vancouver and i thought we were done for the night. so we pull up to the casino - and my immediate reaction was how HUGE it is.
lately, i have been more into gambling than drinking/clubbing. so the fact i found my favorite type of machines that i played for hours in vegas was a huge plus. and the poutine fries! mmm gravy, cheese, fries.
and i noticed the other 2-3 star reviews. reason for my 4 stars with the convenience of location and i'm comparing it to the ghetto casinos i'm accustomed to in the SF bay area...
so i could have done without the cheesy entertainment of cover bands - but they played songs from the 1970s & 1980s which provided a fun time for my 'hip' aunts and uncles dancing to songs from their times. :) -

The Scala Lounge is a great place to watch ufc fights, nice big screens and not crowded at all. I'm not big on casinos but its a good draw to watch events here. I'll admit the food wasn't that great but I wasn't here for the food, just entertainment and ambience.
