I make at least three visits a week, since I first tried a cup of coffee in October 2010. Extremely friendly guys, great coffee, great pastries* and enough interesting tidbits of conversation to catch and update your facebook statuses until hell freezes over.
*Good God! The pastries are amazing, especially the crème brûlée one. When I tried one my mouth just broke into a smile followed by an obligatory "mmmohhmmmmgoooooodmmmm"
it was really that tasty. -

"Tupac and Coffee? Good God it's Christmas morning".
Lets be real. Starbucks coffee is gross. It's bitter. Just try drinking it with all the syrups, chocolate and whip cream out of it and you'll find out quick. They've done terrible in several taste tests. Grand Coffee saves us from bad coffee.
I'm not a morning person so I dont want a lot of chit chat especially if I didn't have my coffee yet. It's good strong coffee, and the espresso is fantastic.
The music and vibe is great. You will get the snobs along with the regular people and that's cool with me.
The pastries are fresh and very good. They have unique things like creme brulee cake, and pop tarts made out of ricotta. basic pastries are fresh and good.
They have egg creme. My best friend is from the bronx and he said it sucked and said they didn't prepare it right. We laid back Californians know how uptight some New Yorkers can be so I decided to try it. I didn't like it at all. It's not for everyone.
Service was fast and polite.
I still in my right mind don't know why people go to overpriced starbucks when there are great locally owned coffee shops all over serving up some great coffees at lesser prices. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COFFEE SHOPS!
Pros:
-great coffee
-coffee is still a rip off but compared to starbucks and other chains it's at a good price.
-great pastries
-fast friendly service
Con's:
-not a fan of the egg cream or the ricotta pop tart
**What has more caffeine? Espresso or Regular coffee?
-Depending on the coffee, espresso has 30-50 mg caffeine per fluid oz.
-Regular coffee has 8.1 to 15 mg caffeine per fluid oz.
Espresso has much more caffeine per oz, but what is interesting is that most people drink a much larger amount of coffee per serving than espresso.
If you have a 2 oz. espresso for 100 mg of caffeine, but have a 8 oz coffee, you will be getting 120 mg of caffeine. Obviously for a 12 oz cup you will be getting 180 mg of caffeine.
Caffeine also allows for aspirin and other pain killers to work faster and that's why some even have caffeine in it.
Caffeine is also a METHYLXANTHINE and has bronchodilation properties, such as asthma drugs. Caffeine is interesting! -

Let me keep this simple in case you haven't had your coffee yet:
Lemon Ricotta pop tart.
Creme Brulee cake.
4 Barrel Coffee (not many places have it. And yes, they are trained by 4 Barrel).
Perfect size space, very clean, and the owner Nabil is there on site, at least 6 days a week.
Interior design has some subtle details that are gorgeous if you are paying attention.
It is on Mission Street, and everyone from snooty coffee junkie, to Mission street junkie, attend and appreciate the quality craft emanating from Grand Coffee.
Did I mention the place was swarming with beautiful women of all walks of life? Nothing to do with coffee, but definitely a great way to start ones day.
And anyone who can play Tupac with such class so early in the morning, I am a fan of. -

Came upon this little coffee shop yesterday afternoon. Apparently it's been around for 13 months, and I'm bummed I only just found it. Cozy and awesome, the hot chocolate was delicious, the egg cream was pretty sweet and the cookie to top it off...! The guy there was chill, approachable... recipe for the perfect coffee awesome. After *suffering* through a WHOLE WEEK of Ritual coffee I realized that I needed a better afternoon pickup. 4 barrel is my favorite - so when I discovered this place is basically 4b2 I quickly went to check it out. It is teeny tiny and no-nonsense. I got a cup of french press and was imPRESSED by the quality and freshness. heh.

I might have been the first customer of the day . I'm the smart one that parties on a school night. This has become my go-to spot whenever I leave the mission district during the wee hours of the morning. I like how my coffee was made with a french press. Cute, right? The owner is super nice and he's also a bartender at foreign cinema with one of my favorite bartenders from the layover. You should pay them both a visit and tip them nicely. Support local business owners!

SOOO GOOD! I love this place, I'm always bummed when I don't have time to stay and hang out for a while. Never bummed by the quality coffee I receive. The staff is awesome, the customers are awesome, the coffee.... ah-mazing! It feels more like visiting the local bar, all the regulars and staff know and like each other and are equally friendly and open to new faces.

Location location location!
I was running to the Bart station and had a NEED for coffee! I saw Grand Coffee and ran it hoping for the best, but really was just happy I wasn't going to grab something from MickieD's.
This little shop surprised me. It was cozy and cool. Definitely not the place you are going to camp out sipping a mocha for hours, but absolutely perfect for grabbing a big cup of coffee on the go.
They offered the standard fare with about the norm for coffee prices. The mocha I had was wonderful. Good flavor, made fast, good price = one happy customer.
It's nice to have another go-to coffee spot in town as I was really lacking for my 'caf' fix in this part of town. -

YUM! So much less bitter than Ritual.
I wish they had splenda too though.... they only have raw sugar (which is good by the way!)
They also sell some delicious looking pastries and cookies! -

Good coffee, poor egg cream .
Espresso drinks where well prepared. Owner was friendly enough and provided interesting conversation. I'd give 4 stars for the coffee.
But, he was offering egg cream. I grew up in NY, so was eager to try one. Not right. Owner didn't grow up drinking them and is giving it a shot. Maybe he's improved by now (I haven't tried one in a few months).
Nice, comfortable, small space. Good addition to the area. -

The first americano I've ever had where the finish was almost better than the start. Just absolutely great espresso, small tiny vibe, and a block up from the Mission/24 Bart station.
They have Square, so you can use your credit card, though I've always used cash. -

I have changed my commute route in order to "drive" by, and since I'm driving by it would be a waste not to stop.
Even though this is a newer cafe, I have already switched from my old regular stop. I just like the attention to detail I get here. Great job and please don't change a thing.
If your looking for the extra care that you don't get at other cafe's then I highly recommend Grand Coffee for you. -

They do one thing, coffee, and they do it very well.
It is a sweet location, tucked into a corner of a storefront on Mission Street just steps from BART, and the space has a cozy, improvised feel without being cluttered.
I'm glad that they are doing enough business to start having multiple employees, but hope the new coffee slingers brush up on customer service skills. By that I mean if I have to choose between a smile and efficient service, I'll choose efficient service every time.
Quality and prices are phenom. -

There is a coffee machine at work. It's actually a rather nice one kept continually stocked with beans from Peet's.
Every morning I ponder the tradeoff - free acceptable coffee at work, or $2 awesome 4 Barrel coffee at Grand Coffee.
The best way to describe this place would be a mini-4 Barrel that you don't need to walk out to 14th and Valencia for. It's got the same wooden decor, the baristas worked there in the past, the beans are from there...but there's no line. Delicious.
It's just really tiny. So don't come expecting to do work or chat up a date or anything. There's a little bar-style seating with stools, and some outdoor chairs, but really not the best place to focus or have a conversation. -

Philz has the whole coffee brewed fresh to order thing down but what if you occasionally want an espresso drink?
After they refused to sell us after brunch coffee at Foreign Cinema (up coming review will not please some people) the waiter suggested we go to this place.
This guy makes a great macchiato. All of his shots are doppio ristretto (double restricted) so they are all intensely flavorful with beautiful crema.
Most people don't know this about me but for a year about 15 years ago I worked for a hard-core Italian coffee company with some serious Italian experts that turned into a crash course. The drink I had at Grand Coffee reminded me of something my old boss said to me once; imagine this said with a thick accent, "Coffee isn't supposed to be bitter, life is already bitter enough" -

5 stars for the service, 5 stars for the product, 5 stars for the creativity, 4 stars for the venue.. although I also like the feel of the place for a date or after date or something like that...
I usually use coffee shops to sit and read or study so, it wouldn't be ideal for me. Why did I come here then? We were walking around this area, striking out at almost every place we stopped (closed that day, not open until 5 pm for dinner, didnt have cold beer for their happy hour). We came across this very inconspicuous place and decided to try it out.
It looks like a bar, and serves coffee. The owner seems very passionate and creative with the way he makes the drinks. He made if a special iced-coffee that was really delicious... and he had a limeade specialty drink. He sells those mini cupcakes (that I will yelp about next). Everything overall was great for a quick stop. Love it... wish it was closer or had seating to study! -

After reading about the Egg Creams on a blog, I decided to seek out this tiny coffee spot. I decided to skip right to my drug of choice. My latte was very delicious and the fellas working there were very friendly.
Though it's not a place to sit and read or ponder your future. It's a "get an awesome coffee and get on with it" sort of place.
Definitely seek this place out if you are a self proclaimed coffee junkie. I imagine that their Egg Creams are to die for... will most definitely be back for one of those in the future, too. -

Sometimes I just want an expertly made coffee without the frills, and that's exactly what I was swiftly delivered when a quick search of my surroundings while apartment hunting near 24th & Mission led me here. I wasn't in the mood for an extra walk to Four Barrel Coffee, but oh boy, did I ever crave a cappuccino made with their beans.
The owner at Grand Coffee whipped one up for me made with FBC beans at $1 off (just for mentioning Yelp) - a sweet bonus, and I loved every molecule within my 8 ounce cup. No extra accoutrements required - this was one perfect cappuccino for a finicky caffeine addict like me. While I waited, he poured me some sparkling water for sipping and palate cleansing before handing over my heavenly brew.
This isn't a sitdown place - in fact, I almost thought it was a walk-up window as I approached. So stay for a quick chat with the friendly owner, but move along if you're looking for wifi or a spot to spread out with your stuff.
I didn't find my dream apartment on this particular visit to The Mission, but finding a gem like Grand Coffee makes me think I need to step up my search for one in the 'hood!Listed in: Overstimulated in SF

I found a tiny tiny coffee shop! You can too!
If you're in the Mission and looking for a quick caffeine jolt, try this new spot that opened in summer '10.
We were able to score two of three stools inside, and chat with the owner for a bit. It was like sitting at your favorite neighborhood bar, except it had pleasant smells and only two other people in the room. It gets a little loud when the espresso machine fires up, so it's not a place to reflect or be emo, which I concur is fun to do in a coffee shop at times. Instead, it's a good place to park yourself for a few minutes and be friendly.
Of course, if you choose to get your coffee to go, how can you not love the charm and convenience of the actual order window that is accessed from the sidewalk? It gives you a similar thrill to the concession stand window at the public pool when you were a kid.
We tried the lattes, which were complex and strong, thanks for Four Barrel's beans, yet perfectly balanced. I couldn't turn away a Mission Mini cupcake, which was showcased in the tiniest, cutest, Alice in Wonderland-esque cake stand I've ever seen.
Great find! -

Yesterday I came to visit this brand new gourmet coffee shop stand on Mission street (near 23rd St). http://media1.px.yelpc... Just look for the canopy with the 60s Avant Garde lettering, which stands out among all the Latino shops nearby.
They use Four Barrel coffee, same as Dynamo. I like that coffee, but I came to try the egg cream ($2.75). An east coast drink seldom found in the bay area. I highly recommend it. It was refreshing and more delicious than Madam Bubbles version. http://media1.px.yelpc...
They have the usuals: espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, americano, latte and mocha - all at very reasonable prices ($2-$4). Plus lemonade and limeaid ($2.75). All hot drinks can also be made as cold and frothy versions. The owner Nabeel, was super friendly. He used to work at Foreign Cinema, just a block away.

Nice little spot in the middle of Mexico.
Stopped by here after trying out Zaytoon last friday. We had a short conversation with the owner, he's a nice guy who is really into his shop. He makes his coffee drinks like he's crafting cocktails -- interesting to watch.
I had an iced americano, which was thoroughly enjoyed.
The belt-sanded panels have some beautiful color and texture in them. I hope this shop does well. -

Mission District, CA
Finally, I've found my staple neighborhood coffee shop!
Grand Coffee serves 4 barrel coffee and is only two people, the proprietor and some hired help for Mondays. It's not Grand in the sense of physical presence; I usually have to double back to find it.
The delicious, deep layer of crema on the americano I grab in the mornings is the stuff coffee dreams are made of. And the lattes I've tried were ridiculously frothy and delicious (especially the iced versions!)
I usually brew my own coffee, but I haven't bought beans in a while because they'd go stale while I shun them for Grand Coffee. -
Review from Mike P.
We all know that there are a gazillion coffee shops that claim that they are the freaking best.
Grand Coffee - no decoration, no advertising budget, no hustle/bustle of typical coffeehouses. What Grand Coffee does have - good coffeemaking apprenticeship, good beans, streamlined menu, and good smelling/tasting coffees. Efficient and friendly service right in the heart of the mission district.
That's all I have to say. -

The cafe just opened on July 1st and though most people take their coffees to go, there are a couple of bar stools for those who wish to imbibe at a more relaxed pace.
The wonderful rich & silky cappuccino was done perfectly, & I loved the unique touch of a shot of refreshing seltzer water to follow. Organic milk at no extra charge (hurrah!), a place with history behind it, and a charming proprietor who takes considerable pride in his work, and in putting down roots in the neighborhood he works in.
A great addition to Mission St, and we wish Nabeel the best! We'll definitely be back! -

Old school flavor with new school funk.
This cafe is quality and the owner serves up the best cappuccinos around. Very simple and refreshing menu, organic milk for all at no extra charge, shot glass of seltzer with in-house espresso drink, signature beverages including lime aids and "Brooklyn egg creams".
Bar seating and tasty, locally-made treats coming soon. Prior to that, have a drink standing (as the Italians do) while chatting with the owner, who happens to have a very witty sense of humor. -

This place put a smile on my face. It's a cute, shiny little spot directly on Mission street. Really perks up that block.
They brew Four Barrel, use Cloverfield organic milk, offer soy, and also do egg creams, which is so unique and so unheard of in San Francisco! I had a yummy latte, but have to go back to try the egg cream just for the nostalgia: My grandfather grew up in Brooklyn and would fix me the occasional egg cream as a treat. He would say to me: "Egg cream - no egg, no cream!"
They've only been open for only 17 days - go and check it out! -

I stumbled upon this place this afternoon while on my lunch break in the Mission. Now, as I settle back in to my routine at the office, my mind is still on the deeply satisfying, silky and rich cappuccino that I got at Grand Coffee. And I'm already anticipating my next visit- it was that good!
Though the operation is small and caters to carry-away customers, there is a small counter where you can sit and enjoy your coffee and perhaps a conversation with Nabeel, the proprietor, who is a very friendly guy. Ask about the decorative wood and tile accents he's affixed to the walls; Nabeel restored these elements by hand and clearly has an eye for details. He's made a beautiful space out of the old theater in which the kiosk is located. This level attentiveness is evident in the quality of the coffee, as well! I will definitely be back. -

I was walking by here yesterday with an iced coffee from Philz in hand. The owner / barista offered to replace my coffee with one of his own. I normally drink espresso and so asked for espresso to replace my current coffee. The espresso was poured perfectly and used Four Barrel beans. The extra nice touch was a shot of seltzer water to chase the espresso.
It looks like they offer some specialty coffee drinks too (shaken? with Brooklyn cream?). I didn't quite understand what these were, but am willing to experiment next time based on the espresso I was served.
Note this is a coffee kiosk, not a coffee shop. I.e., don't bring your laptop with the intention of setting up and working for a few hours. This is a spend a few minutes having a coffee standing up and then move on sort of place. -

I'm glad to have another good coffee joint on my way to BART/work. Nabil is very friendly and knowledgeable every time I come in, and I'm excited to see how the little space changes in the weeks to come.
Great coffee, interesting drink ideas, fair prices and good service. What more can you ask for? -

While the Mission isn't lacking great coffee (Ritual, Four Barrels, Haus), it's so awesome that a small coffee shop like this has opened on Mission St. More the merrier I say!
Really love the look of this place, it's tiny, it's compact, and served great coffee - Four Barrels. Reminds me of some places in Berlin, Rome and Sydney.
The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable of the coffee he serves. The latte was excellent, made just right.
Looking forward to hanging out at Grand more often and drinking my coffee right on Mission st. -

What a great coffee shop. It is small but unique. I love the canopy outside, the corked walls and brushed wood. It is funky with delicious Four Barrell coffee. This is my new place to start the day.
Nabil, the owner is awesome. I cant wait to try the egg cream. He described it to me and it sounds very refreshing! A midday pick me up...The best part the besides the great service and delicious coffee, the prices are fair! -

I have never been the kind of guy who has NEEDED a caffeinated pick-me-up. Coffee does it for me because of the taste and because of the additional energy it provides. Some people drink coffee to make it through their day, I drink coffee to make my day great.
And so far, in the Mission, I have not found a coffee shop better than Grand for making my day that way! I have a love affair with their Americanos (with beans from Four Barrel), because they have always led to a perkier morning and a great start to the day.
I also greatly appreciate that their pastries come from Knead Patisserie. When I make a point of eating something as fattening as a butter croissant, why waste the calories on an extra six-block walk?
My gripe is their hours. Yes, 7am is perfectly early enough for my purposes... if they actually open by then. I have walked by the store front on many a commuter's morning, expectantly hoping that it will be one of the days that they are open and I can get my espresso. It usually is not to be.
To the proprietors: don't change your habits just because of me, but know that you'd have an (at least) weekly customer if you were consistently open by 7! -

* Clean, fresh little spot. Check!
* Friendly, nice and charismatic proprietor. Check!
* Original refreshing menu. Check!
Tuesday I stumbled upon this gift from the coffee gods. When I walked in the first thing that popped into sight was the, "Brooklyn egg cream" and will be back to try everything else. Some argue there are too many caffeine refueling stations the city although the more shops the more likely the cream will rise to the top. This little shop will rise to the top. There is no reason to not give 5 stars. Excellent friendly personal service in a great location
Go here now! This little spot is worthy of a ride out to the Mission. -

Recommended by a friend. It's a stylish hole-in-the wall with Four Barrel beans. A great place for it too- modern vibe amid working-class block in the old Grand Theatre building. They sell beans too, which is great for nearby neighbors. Stop in for a cup in between thirft store and 99 cent store shopping....

I really like this small and unpretentious coffee place in the Mission.
Very creative interior design: reclaimed wood + clever use of old magazines (or newspapers).
Cappuccinos were excellent!
They also have baked treats (like Pomme d'Amour from Knead Patisserie), jams and very nice assortment of chocolate.
