A real gem in Vaughan region. Hidden in the corner of a quiet suburban plaza, Grains Bistro (also known as G Bistro + Patio) offers a relaxing and also exhilarating dining experience.

The interior of the restaurant seems pretty upscale. There are many big tables for 4+, but they seem quite short (you might feel that the person in front of you is sitting a bit too close). The leather chairs look nice, but they are quite low. So it may not be comfortable for tall people. On a bright side, there is more than enough space between tables. The tables are white marble while the floor is dark brown wood. Not sure how this will feel when dining inside, but it looked quite sophisticated. The noise level is a bit high though. The overall atmosphere is breezy.

The patio is amazing. It is quite small, but the section behind the restaurant offers the view of woods. It's almost like being in a backyard. Quite a romantic feel as well. Unfortunately, there are only 4 big tables. One of them is a raised bar table that seat 8. We sat in the corner by the street. It felt like we were having a picnic in a forest. I wouldn't mind staying there for hours. I also enjoyed looking at the relaxed suburban street.

Service was slow. We ordered 2 burgers but it took more than 40 minutes until we got our hands on them. Apparently the kitchen was backed up since they had to prepare for a private party. The server was agreeably attentive though. And she was courteous and kind.

I had lamb burger with organic house salad while my friend had Canuk burger with sweet potato fries.

The lamb burger was quite different from conventional salty and smokey taste that burgers go for. It was rather gentle and hushed. Very health-inspired, if you will. It had grilled zucchini, red pepper, goat cheese and chipotle sauce in it. Some might find it bland. It doesn't have stimulating sensation. But I liked the clean subtle taste. The patty itself was amazing. It had pronounced lamb flavor. It was juicy and tender. Its texture was pleasing (it didn't disintegrate into tiny pieces when I bit into it). There were some subtle smonkiness and aromatic overtone that brought the meat's flavor alive. Best of all, it was an inch thick. My one gripe? The goat cheese had liquid texture, and it lacked saltiness. Perhaps the cheese could have waken things up a bit. But overall, it had smooth refined and transparent flavor.

The organic salad was tasty. It was vigorous, and went well together with the burger.

The Canuk burger was closer to conventional burger with BBQ sauce, tomato and bacon. But the health-inspired tone was present. I liked the choice of veggies in there. Also, the cheddar cheese went well together with the sauce. Overall, its hearty flavor was lovely.

The sweet potato fries were stunning. Very crispy, the aromatic sweetness had natural taste.

I will definitely go back to try more items on the menu pretty soon. Upon quick glance at the menu, ahi tuna, filet mignon stack, duck spring rolls, ribeye, mushroom risotto and lobster risotto seemed like the stand-out items. On my next visit, I'll try duck spring rolls and lobster risotto. I'll also report back on the interior of the restaurant.

Scanning at all the restaurants that participating in the Savour York Region this year, I couldn't stop yawning... All these Italian restaurants serving similar items.. how many Cesar Salad can I eat?? Veal Marsala again?! $35 for dinner?? Until Grain's Bistro Menu caught my eyes!!

OK! The price helps a LOT $25 for prix fixe dinner?! Interesting Menu Selection? No more pasta!! Yes I am IN! The good thing  that Linguine Frutti  Di Mare is in the main menu just in case my boyfriend just want his usual!

Grains Bistro decor is chic, modern and minimalist. The bar area has a sport bar feel with big TV and there are also 2 others dining area that can be curtain off.

My Choice which is also the waiter's recommendation:
-Seared Ahi Tuna and Asian Slaw
    - Moroccan Braised Lamb Shank served with Garlic Mush and Veggie
    - Chocolate Torte

    My dinner mate's choice:
    - Golden Beet and Arugula Salad with Buffalo Mozzarella
    - Creole Jambalaya (French Quarter Style Jambalaya with PEI Mussels, Shrimps, Clams, Langostino Lobster, Chicken, Andouille Sausage in a Spicy Creole Sauce)
    - White Chocolate Vanilla Bean Mousse

I love all my choices!! The seared tuna was so heavenly!! Lamb Shank soft and tender, and chocolate torte was served warm!

As usual, other people food are always better?? My dinner mate started looking at mine!!! And when he started to make excuses of
    - I don't eat Golden Beet?! What is Golden Beet? Your Tuna looked better
    - Spicy Sauce for the Jambalaya is too spicy!! I think you would love that...
    - White Chocolate Vanilla Bean Mousse? I don't like White Chocolate...

So switch... My waiter got a little confused....

Special mention is all our food were served piping hot and fresh! I guess it helped when we were the only table just one hour before closing!

I definitely be coming back again!! Especially on Saturday when Grain's Bistro has Live Jazz Performance!!

Went here on a date and I loved this place! It has the perfect romantic atmosphere, dimly lit, cozy, modern, live music after dinner. The food was great. Everything we ordered was delicious. The tuna appetizer was one of the best I've ever had. The lamb was fall of the bone tender. This is definitely a place I'll be visiting again.
