Cambridge, ON
NEW LOCATION!! Beautifully finished, all new interior in a new central Cambridge location. Grain of Salt has moved from the "seedy" looking place in Preston. They
are in Cambridge, Ontario on the East side of Hwy 24, 2 km south of Hwy 401, in the same plaza as Burger King & Beer Town.
It is good food. You will not be disappointed with the quality here. The first time I tasted the Chicken Vindaloo was heaven. Hot tangy sauce with potatoes, red chilies and vinegar. Spice was right, came out hot with a good portion size. Sauce was not runny. It was the best food I've had in my whole life. I continue to visit often with my wife.
She's a vegetarian and loves the Navratan Korma: Mixed vegetables cooked with cashew paste, cream and mild spices. We also share the Aloo Tikki starter: Deep Fried mashed potatoes with chick peas and tamarind sauce.
If you have never been to a place like this or are taking someone for Indian that is a little skeptical, tell them to order the Butter Chicken. You can not go wrong with that.
Bottom line - The curry is fantastic, the prices are reasonable and there is something to suit everyone. The new location is easy access to a great quick lunch or a nice leisurely dinner. -
Review from Minh S.
Tandoor chicken - Average
Naan - Great if eaten right away. I had take out so it was a bit tough but fortunately I cheated and ate some of it during the car ride.
Lamb curry - Excellent. Nice spices, tender lamb, not too oily.
Ambiance - Outside looks sketchy but inside it is small and cozy
5 Stars because of the curry! -

Toronto, ON
I am from Cambridge, now live in Toronto, and have driven by this place many times and scoffed at it, thinking it would be total "Cambridge Style" Indian food (read: very, very white). I am eating crow now, as I tried it for the first time today and it was REALLY good. My husband and I both had vegetable curries and they were so full of flavour and not super oily. The naan bread and pakora was delicious too. The decor is very dated, and the outside appearance is a bit misleading and seedy, but wow, I would definitely come back here again.
I should also mention that the people (family?) that runs it are very friendly, always a plus.
