Review from Chris P.
A few of us Yelpers attended Graeme Parry's Graffiti Alley tour this past weekend. There were 20-25 people in total on the tour which started at Queen & Bathurst and ended at Dundas & Ossignton.
It was a super hot day but I think eneryone enjoyed themselves. Really, can you complain about anything on a FREE tour? I believe this guy just does this as a hobby. He talked about some of the different alleyways across the city, took us past some homes that are tucked away in the middle of a block where the city has re-designated a laneway into a street (still no sidewalks though).
If you can't make it to one of his tours just visit his website where he has the maps to print and you can go explore yourself. -

This is a great walking tour for people who:
(a) like graffiti
(b) like browsing urban architecture
(c) need to exercise
(d) are broke but want something interesting to do on a Sunday afternoon
Only 6 Yelpers RSVPed for the event so I was a little surprised (and mildly disappointed) that 20+ people showed up for the tour. I was like, "Whoa. There's a world beyond Yelp?" It kind of blew my mind.
And in response to Chris P's question: Yes. I CAN complain about something on a free tour...
Having so many attendees meant that I missed most of the tour guide's spiel because I waited for the 14 or so non-Yelp strangers to get out of the way before I took my photos of the walls.
Otherwise, a cool tour that introduced me to:
(i) secluded laneways to avoid the human traffic on Queen St. West
(ii) Canadian graffiti
(iii) a range of human emotions exhibited by homeowners along the route; everything from bitchy to curious, to funny and charming
Total cost: One hour of your time -

Toronto, ON
There's no doubt that this tour will show you a side of Toronto you'd never think to seek out on your own - and all it costs is an hour of your time and your attention to fantastic tour leader Graeme.
Despite the large group that turned up, Graeme did a good job of letting everyone see the sights of the laneways and addressing us with tidbits of info at short stops along the way.
From Queen/Bathurst to Dundas/Ossington you'll weave your way through quiet little laneways and see graffiti, garages, gardens and more. Who knew there'd be things like little renovated workers cottages, old factories and even new condos in there too? So much to see that the hour's over in a flash, really.
Toronto's laneways are something else, and I bet you'll find yourself seeking them out to wander long after this short, fantastic, informative walking tour is done.
[Just a note - even if you feel Graeme deserves a tip, he doesn't ask for them and when I saw someone offer him one he very steadfastly turned it down. Perhaps avoid this if you don't want to offend or make things awkward.]
