This is the fast-food of Indian, which is not such a bad thing. Tasty, filling but a little greasy.
The major drawback? They serve pretty good samosas but no dipping sauce. In fact, their samosas are particularly dry, which makes the lack of something to dip them in even more apparent.
Veggie or Chicken Biryani are my favorites, but the Channa is great as well. -

Go for the butter chicken. You won't find anything that tastes like this at any other restaurant in NS. That's not necessarily a good thing, but....
At any rate, I try not to eat here very often because, 1: I don't eat much meat, and the non-meat menu is lacking. 2. It doesn't taste real.
The fakeness, however, dispels my craving for junkfood. This is a good thing.
Like fellow yelpers indicated, there isn't much distinguishing the food here from something you buy at the supermarket or Indian grocer, but if you're in a pinch and fancy Indian fast food, GI's the spot. -

You know the scene in the movie when the lonely girl calls the take-out place and makes a long obscure order and the staff know her by name and it's really all very pathetic?
Well with the exception of the lonely and pathetic parts that is pretty much the relationship that I have with Gracious Indian.
There isn't mush on the menu, but what they do offer they always prepare perfectly. I'm wont claim that cooking butter chicken is rocket science, but I'm sure they must have a secret because I can never get sauce to thicken or my chicken as tender as they do.
Takeout is really affordable and I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes for my meals to arrive. Even when I have friends over and order the family packs of dishes they arrive on time and are always warm. Gracious Indian also provides catering services, which gives me hope that someday i'll attend a wedding with a Chicken Tandoori buffet.
Hot Hint: If you also feel like that lonely pathetic movie chick, reduce your human contact even more by ordering online. You don't have to talk to anyone on the phone and there is very little room for error when placing your order. -

I took Liz's suggestion and ordered from Gracious Indian a few weeks ago and i've been a bit of a repeat offender every since.
This is better indian food than i've had at most restaurants, and it's to go!
Gracious Indian has a promotion running until the end of October whereby you get 15% off orders you place online. They only charge $3 for delivery too!
The butter chicken with rice, raita and naan is absolutely phenomenal. If you order the family pack, you'll have leftovers for days! Gracious Indian does err on the side of spice (which I happen to like) but if you place your order online, there is a place for 'comments' so you can probably specify to them that you would prefer your meal to be on the mild side. -

Much like Andrew, I wish this place was better. It seemed so promising when the sign went up on Windsor, proclaiming that there would be a neighborhood Indian joint. Sadly though, the food isn't the tops and it just doesn't cut the mustard for me.
I purchased the chick pea curry and it wasn't very tasty. The rest of the combo was lack-luster and left me wanting to throw in a handful of flavor just to inspire me to want to finish.
Perhaps the non-veggie items at this place are more enticing, but wait a minute, Indian food traditionally stands on a strong foundation of vegetarianism - Indian food is the paradigm in great food for the herbivores! So come on Gracious Indian, why then are you not paying heed, creating tasty authentic dishes!?
I want you to be fantastic so that I can walk half a block and get mouth watering Indian dishes. And while you're at it spicing up the menu, why don't you consider dropping the prices a bit or else sprucing up your portion sizes? Thanks. I would really appreciate it! -

This place was kind of "Meh" for me. I came here with my parents before looking at an apartment across the street (which I will now be renting, boom chicka yeah!)... However, although it seems pretty neat to have a take out Indian place so close to your dwelling, you would kind of hope it was a bit better than this place. Their Samosas were really dry and a tiny bit overpriced. And the chicken rotti wraps were good, but a bit small (I am a hungry woman). I will say I probably won't be going here very often. Sorry Gracious Indian, get better soon!

Definitely not traditional "authentic" Indian cuisine, but damn is it tasty - the fast food of Indian, like Jevon said. It's also very reasonably priced, making it ideal for quick 'n tasty takeout/ delivery/ I'm too drunk and need food moments.

Recommended by Nick Green for their great online ordering system! Calvin Jien and I ordered online and it got delivered fairly quick. I got the Chicken Tandoori and he got the Chicken Biryani.
Not sure if the portions for eat-in are bigger, but the take-out could have been bigger. Calvin said his was pretty spicy but I thought mine could have used more spices for Indian food. The chicken was really good though and I enjoyed the rice mix it came with. First time getting Samosa, recommend getting it as well as the Mango Lassi. Naan bread wasn't that great. -

Fast food indian restaurant, great concept, bad implementation.
This is not an eat in restaurant, I wish I would've known that before going here, as we asked to eat in and we were eating hot food out of a aluminum box and plastic spoon and knives.
You would probably be better off going to the Atlantic Superstore and buying President's Choice frozen foods and nuking it, the roti is good, but it isn't true roti and PC's naan is way better.
My g/f and I are vegetarian and there were two options for us, so we ordered both, the chickpeas tasted like they were out of a can and the sauce didn't really blend into it well.
The other dish had broccoli and zucchini in it, I like that they are using local ingredients, but they could use a better combination. The dish that was marked vegan was served with Raita, which is yogurt based, therefore it isn't true vegan.
If you would like authentic indian food please try a different place, if you want canadianized indian food, then this might be a good place for you to start. -

I love Indian food, so I was excited when I saw that a shop for takeaway Indian food had recently opened on Windsor Street.
I know that "fast" and "delicious" don't necessarily go together, particular when you're talking about foods that need time to settle into their flavours, as a lot of curries do. And unfortunately, the food at the Gracious Indian just doesn't taste great - as much as I would LOVE to have access to quick and convenient Indian takeout.
First of all, the customer has no choice in terms of "heat" ...and all the dishes I've tried have a very high level of spice. A friend, who is very sensitive to hot food, could eat neither the butter chicken nor the chicken biryani - she couldn't tolerate either dish. I like heat, but I would have liked to have the option to tone it down a bit from the default level on these dishes.
Butter chicken is one of those foods I crave often - but the butter chicken here is weighed down by an overly thick sauce, which is a strange shade of red, and the chicken is quite dried out - which, I would suggest, is a result of cooking for too long - the paradox of slow food needing to be ready in a hurry.
Their samosas are heavy and dry, too, and their naan bread, rather than fluffy and moist, is a thin pancake, heavily oily, and crisp.
Most of the foods on the menu come packaged as "meals", so you can't easily order a few favourite dishes and share with friends when you get home.
I want this restaurant to be a success, I really do. Here's hoping they come up with a more flexible, and fresher, menu. -

take my advice: you are better off finding recipes on the internet, heading to Indian Groceries for ingredients, and making some tasty food at home.
the food at Gracious Indian is appallingly bad. tiny portions (not that you would want more), bad naan, bad everything.
