Review from Brian S.
A boardwalk
on the side of a cliff
is a very interesting
place to walk.
The Governor's Promenade, or Promenade des Gouverneurs as the indigenous folks would say, is an incredible boardwalk that clings to the side of a cliff and climbs through Old Quebec.
The promenade is about a half a mile long and has a least a bezillion steps. If you enjoy walking up and down steps this is certainly the place to go. It starts near the Chateau Frontenac and winds itself past the Citadelle and ends up at the Plains of Abraham, the site of the famous battle in 1759. It has gorgeous views along the entire way with the city on one side and the ships and busy docks of the Saint Lawrence river on the other.
The promenade is roughly three hundred feet above the ground and in places literally seems to be hanging off the side of the rock. It is wide and sturdy so unless you look directly over the edge it doesn't feel precarious but never ceases to be exhilarating. In a few places archaeological excavations are taking places and interesting people are always available to talk to. One local woman told me that the Promenade is not shoveled or cleaned in the snowy weather so that in the winter walking along the boardwalk becomes "great fun". Obviously "great fun" in Quebec is a rather subjective term.

Review from Tony B.
Great views from here and along the boardwalk.
I would start at the top (enter at Battlefield National Park) and walk down the steps to Old Quebec. Much better than walking up the steps.
Lots of places to stop and sit and enjoy the views. Would not want to do it in winter though. -
