Review from Jeff V.
Waterloo, ON
I will admit, the title of this little pizza cafe had me wary. "Gourmet" for me as a student can only mean one thing: out of my budget.
But I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at the Gourmet Pizza Cafe. For the price, they pack a wallop of toppings. For example, we ordered a small Pesto Chicken pizza, sans pesto and plus pizza sauce, and were treated to six slices between two people for $12 that were loaded with delicious strips of chicken and chunks of tasty goat cheese.
And the crust is phenomenal. On the thin side, but with a flakiness that I haven't experienced elsewhere in Waterloo that makes even a crust-end-hater like me eat every last bit.
The service was also friendly and fast. When we walked in we were greeted with a big smile, making us feel like welcome customers to this somewhat off-the-beaten path pizza cafe. Once we had placed our order, we waited no more than 10 minutes for our pizza, which surprised me (I generally expect to wait 15-20 minutes).
The only gripe I had from my first experience was that the cost of the drinks was a little high. That's fairly typical with smaller cafe-types, though, so it's hard to hold that against them.
Also recommended: the mozzarella sticks. Not the typical deep-fried mozzarella sticks, these cheesy sticks are prepared on the same dough used for their pizza and covered in just the right amount of cheese. For $4.99, they're about the same size as a small pizza (and half the price!). And if you want laser breath for a few days, they'll even give you free garlic dipping sauce. -

My friend and I both had panzerottis. They were quite large, and decently filled with toppings. The sauce was a bit bland. The seating was a bit cramped, and the woman behind me kept hitting me with her elbow. I would have turned around and punched her, but it didn't seem like that sort of place. They had Brio, which is always a plus in an Italian joint in my opinion. The server was quite friendly.

Review from Kim C.
On a recent late night in Waterloo, I was fiending a culinary fix. Without a car, only a few options were attainable: one of which was Gourmet Pizza Cafe.
Unfortunately, the only thing "gourmet" about Gourmet Pizza Cafe is the first word in its name. Toppings are standard and everyday fare, with feta being one of the few "unusual" options; the sauce is perfectly average and unexciting; and the prices seem steep for the quality.
However, Gourmet Pizza Cafe is probably good enough for those who need a quick bite: delivery is quick, service is friendly, and at least they pile on the toppings thick and deep.
