Oh Gordo. You are so delicious. What is your secret?
With a few hours left before a friend's wedding reception, I was getting hungry. I wanted to try Taqueria La Cumbre because I was determined to go on a Man vs Food run in SF... However around New Years Eve the traffic inside the city was No Bueno. So my family and I decided to try out Gordo's based on a recommendation. It was very strange going to a local Mexican food shop completed suited up. I know we looked gansta, but we were just hungry and felt like some good Mexican food.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of customers in the joint, but we happen to enter with no line. Since this was a new place for me, I didn't know what to order. I always hate that feeling whenever I walk up to any restaurant counter and don't know what to get.. because you know this annoys most workers. I quickly scanned the menu and decided to get the Super Burrito All Meat. I thought this would be pre-made order with no options needed, but I guess you need to pick what you want in the burrito. After placing my order, I wasn't sure if the server heard me because of how noisy it was in the kitchen. So, I repeated my order ALL MEAT. So he literally gave me a lit bit of each type of meat. No Rice No Beans No cheese No filling of any kind. I realized I should have been more specific with the fillings. Oh well, this time it worked out for the best. Carnitas, Carne Asada, Chicken, and Chili Verde.
I took one bite and I was in love. I felt satisfied that if this was my last meal on earth I would die happy. Add this to the list of items to rub in my face if I ever think about become Vegan. There's really nothing special about Gordo its just simple and delicious food. No silly names or brown rice, just a burrito, taco, or quesadilla the way you want it. Maybe it's lard or maybe it's made with love, but this 6 dollar burrito is way better than a lot of expense dishes I have tried.
I will make sure to stop by Gordo again next time I'm in San Francisco again. -

This place makes a fantastic burrito...juicy and full of flavor, and their menu is short, simple, and to the point. But I'm giving them 3 stars because they don't know how to wrap!
If your serving burritos in california and you can't wrap the tortilla tightly and give the customer a fighting chance to consume it all without it all falling out the bottom then you need to take and oragami class or something. -

**TAKE-OUT REVIEW**
It's close by the sis's house... the nannies and I got take out for dinner here a couple of days ago... It gets packed but they're pretty fast.
I got a regular beef burrito ... it was jam packed with rice but not enough beef... I felt a little gypped... but for the price... it was what it was. It's not as tasty as I would have liked it (spoiled from Mexico Au Parc for lunch) ... overall... bland.
I also ordered a chicken quesadilla but I ended up not eating it since it was swimming in oil... such a turn off to see.
Will probably have this place as my last go to "must feed me" moments around the sis's neighborhood... -

Good Cheap and fast mexican food. Parking is kinda hard to find depending on what time you came. Food is usually consistent and the staff here are nice and friendly. Definitively come here as often as I can.

My 2nd fave spot to grab burritos from in the city besides Papalotes. I don't know why I haven't yelped this place before! It is one of my all time favorites!
Their burritos are soft and and sometimes gushy (i like it like that!). They make the burritos right in front of you adding whatever you like. I always get their Carne Asada burritos. The tortilla is so steamed and fresh! I came here the other day and decided to get a Rice Cup. It's not on the menu, but its only $2.50 and its basically everything in a little cup but the tortilla (salsa, guacamole, carna asada, rice, beans..etc). Honestly it is just as good! I ate it super quick within 5 minutes after purchasing it! It is enough and you dont feel "gordo" after. Their food is always fresh! And every time you bite into their burritos you will leave wanting more.
The only thing about this place is every time I have come here, it is difficult to find parking on the street! Plus when you do find parking the place is too small to eat in. -

My girlfriend once came back from Gordo's with a burrito for me, which I thought was a very sweet gesture. She expressed concern that we would not be able to tell our burritos apart without further investigation. She said, "maybe they labeled the burritos."
The staff at Gordo's slap beans onto the tortilla with the enthusiasm of a listless lunchlady serving up slop to an elementary school student who has just seen her imminent demise reflected in the beaming eyes of the young student that she hates. Of course, it is not the student him/herself that the lunchlady hates, but the idea of lost youth and wasted dreams. There is no way that the Gordo's staff is going to write a big C for chicken on the wrapper of the burrito. That's going to take too much.
You may have noticed I gave Gordo's five stars. That's because it's excellent! Some people may be turned off by the vibe of the employees. Not me. I think it's hilarious!
The burritos are great. The hot sauce is interesting. You don't notice the spicyness at the time, but it sneaks up on you like a barefoot samurai tiptoeing through daffodils on a cold December morning. The minute you are done with the burrito, you'll think, "oh yeah. The hot sauce."
It's good, it's fast, it does not require much to go there. When you get an appetite after reflecting on your useless existence, you can wear the pajama pants you have been wearing for several days and shuffle on down to Gordo's. -

This place makes an average burrito. This place used to be my favorite burrito when I was still living in this area as a kid. But now I have explored the Mission District and Santa Cruz. I would not mind a burrito from here once in a while though.
I usually get the grilled chicken burrito. It's pretty good. The ingredients are fresh and they do not charge you more if you want extra rice or meat.
I will be coming here again, whenever I'm in the Richmond.
-1 for poorly wrapped burrito. too wide and not long enough. no homo. -

I heard about Gordo's a few years ago, but never attempted to go there until recently. I am so glad I did!
I love LOVE love Mexican food, especially quality Mexican food. While the burritos seem to be all the rage here, I opted for a super quesadilla with shredded chicken and spicy chili verde sauce. I think this should be the item they are known for. It was one of the best quesadillas I have had. The tortilla had some crunch to it, the meat was flavorful & fresh, the cheese was melted to perfection, and the salsa gave it that extra kick of flavor. Muy delicioso! I highly recommend stopping by for this delightful treat.
AND they take card- awesome! -

As a SF native, you gotta understand the Mission is the standard for Mexican food, specifically El Farolito. Like a lot of taquerias outside of the Mission, Gordo is just aiiight. It's not bad for what it is, but you can get much better. It was odd that they used slices of cheese instead of shredded. Another thing I'm not a fan of is diluted guacamole. Put plain avocados in those burritos/quesadillas/tacos! The meats here are decent, some are marinated fairly thoroughly and pretty flavorful. Overall taste is average, nothing spectacular. Portions are filling, but stick to the Mission if you're looking for good Mexican grub. It's cheaper out there as well - no brainer in case you're thinking up a pros/cons list.

The rolling of the tortilla wasn't an issue for me. My burrito did not come apart. My issue is with the meat itself, which was entirely too salty. I was able to get through half of my burrito, but toward the end the meat was too hard and salty to finish and I had to remove it. The rest of the burrito was fine, but I wish they had put the guac and sour cream along the same direction as the rice and beans. It doesn't make sense to scoop it in the opposite direction, thereby leaving gaps. Overall this place was okay, but it did not hit the spot for me. Maybe I'm too loyal to my other taqueria. The staff were okay; I had to ask them to repeat things twice because I couldn't understand what they were mumbling.

"Super burrito with everything"
"$6"
"Thanks so much"
This is the sort of dialogue that goes on here, if you come at the right time you can be in and out in under 5 minutes. There really is nothing to complain about, especially given that we are many miles from the Mission. The Cigarette Depot next door has a good selection of drinks and sweets if you are feeling peckish. -

Came here before going to a Giants game. Service is INCREDIBLY slow so don't go if you're strapped for time.
I only ate the chips and guac here. The small size of guac is not enough for a bag of chips. If I went again, I would get extra guac or get the chips + salsa and a side of guac. I hate when there is a bad chip to dip ratio. The rest of the chips went into the trash. We wanted to find a homeless person to give it to but the area was seriously lacking (which is usually a good thing haha).
Their guacamole was awesome. Steady stream of customers the entire time I was there. They don't have enough tables for all their customers though so keep that in mind. -

Super Carnitas Burrito with beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, hot sauce. Was good. Carnitas was delicious... it's way better than the steak. However, still not that great by SF standards.
We also had the Steak Quesadilla with Sour Cream. The Quesadilla is the way to go... but skip the steak... it was very bland. Can't eat anything from here without hot sauce -

This place rocks! The options are pretty simple, but the quality of the food makes it well worth the trip. The only reason it doesn't give a five star review is because they only have one food station open late at night and they always have a line.
You'd think that a burrito place would realize that if they make great food (and they do) that late at night is an obvious time to have a lot of stations open for people coming from the bars, or just looking for good solid comfort food. -

San Francisco, CA
Burrito was okay but workers there need to have better hygiene. I originally ordered a carne asada burrito and the worker thought I had ordered chicken, so instead of making a new one, he scooped the chicken out of my burrito with his bare hands and tossed the chicken meat back to the chicken pile. This happened right in front of my face! I was very disgusted and felt sorry for the person that will be eating a chicken burrito.
I will never go there again. -

By far the best location of the Gordos chain this has to be one of my favorite burritos in the world. I am partial to their burritos since I grew up eating them but I think they would be delicious wither way. The carnitas are out of this world and they steam the cheese onto the tortilla so it is all perfectly melty. Love it.
Good chips, great smooth guacamole and never underestimate the Gordos plate! -

I love this place! Whenever I get home from work and discover that I don't have anything to make dinner with, and I need something quick and cheap, I know I can count on Gordo's to come to my rescue.
I usually get the super beef burrito with a large drink. The burritos are fresh and very filling! -

I'm not a fan of their burritos but they might have the tastiest tacos around (especially after a rather sad nick's way taco at Underdogs :( )
Go for chicken or carnitas, with guacamole, black beans, and spicy sauce. One taco for a snack, two for dinner, three if you're really hungry.
Their guacamole is great as well, and isn't Chipotle-expensive.Listed in: My hood!

Jesus. $4.95 for a super burrito. NO room for seating, but this place is made for grab and go. With a normal burrito at $4.25, why not pay the extra couple cents for the super burrito? I ordered the carnitas burrito which had that nice crunch to it. Flavor was good, but might have been added with their hot sauce and tomatoes.
I felt kind of dirty eating the burrito because the meat didn't look too fresh, but with the power of alcohol, anything tastes like a million bucks. I also made a good decision and opted out on the guacamole and sour cream, which would have been quite punishing in the morning.
Gordo is good if you're looking to fill up for cheap. I'm not sure they have the best taste, but it's quit a bang for your buck. -
Review from Alexia A.
Chicken quesadilla only had chicken, and pico de gallo, rolled like a burrito. Soaked by the time I wanted to eat it.
Not flat and folded in two, no chips, no cheese, no sour cream, no guacamole and it cost $4.79? So exactly how much would lunch with chips and a drink cost here? $10?
Go somewhere else. -

What the fuck? Seriously, what the fuck? Beef burritos? Boiled chicken? Four types of tortillas? Two different sized burritos?! This is just not right. A taco shop should have carne asada, not beef. There should be no rice or beans or sliced cheese (why was there a fucking slice of cheese in my burrito?!) in a burrito. A taco shop should never ask you what you want in your burrito, they should just make it. This did not even taste Mexican. I can't believe I paid over $5 for that.
Call me a burrito snob, because I grew up in San Diego and I am a fucking burrito snob. -

I love Gordo's burritos! I just moved to the area, and my friends didn't speak too highly of the place, but I still went, and thought my friends were out of their mind. I got the boiled chicken super burrito with everything on it. The only thing I could complain about is the lack of hot sauce, but that is okay.
I got some chips and guacamole to go with my burrito. Very good!
And they take debit card - that is always a plus! -

After moving to San Diego I realized that I miss my friends....and Gordo's. Every time i'm back in the city this is my first grub spot. So here's the deal, I have been going to this place for 15 years. If you want the best thing ever from here, get a "quesadilla burrito", as I like to refer to it. They toast the tortilla to perfection, melt the cheese and then you get to put your usual whatever you want into it. So much better than just the plain tortilla. Oh, and ask about their spinach and tomato tortillas if you want to change it up. By the way, "gordo" means fat, so don't go here if it's a Monday or the first of the month and you've started your occasional fad diet ;)

Call me a SoCal snot I don't care because in SoCal I was SPOILED with YUMMY "Authentic" Mexican food and as for this place it was NOT good aka non-bueno!!!
Had their carne asada taco (yes very generous with their carne asada); by the time I brought it home to eat it, the tortilla was soggy and the beef had no taste!
1/2 chicken 1/2 carnitas burrito - bland & boring, nothing special!!!! -

I've been eating Gordo burritos since I was a little kid and they always make wrap it to perfection. The place is cheap and the mural on the wall is nice to look at. -

I love Gordo's, and especially their burritos. The filling is always fresh, and they always give more then enough. They even have healthier options, which what my boyfriend loves. I must admit that I at first I felt like it tasted a little different. But once we had it a 2nd and a 3rd time I fell more and more in love.
The service and quality at this one, to me, is better. And parking isn't as bad as the other locations.Listed in: I left my heart in San…

Review from John B.
This place is merely "alright". I actually just had a much better burrito in Seattle, of all places. I had the pollo asado burrito and it looked like it had potential, but ended up being rather bland. To make matters worse they don't give you any salsa with your order, you have to ask for it. And the drunk/stoned guy behind the counter ended up spilling one salsa all over the place and only filled the second one he tried to make about 1/3 of the way full. Way to go buddy, go smoke another joint and pound another 4 Loco.

OK place. Chips aren't included with meals, prices are average along with the quality of the food. Also, didn't see a health score card posted like they are supposed to and they don't wear gloves to prepare the food.

Bes authentic mexican foods.
Been to many mexican restaurants and I must say this burrito is the best and not dry.
Huge serving portions plus price is reasonable.
Clean casual place.
Miss it, want some now.
Try ordering large carnitas burrito with cheese, guacamole, sourcream, salsa...mmmmmmmmmm. bona a petit. -

Gotta love Gordo's.
Spinach tortilla.
Grilled chicken.
Black beans.
Cheese.
Salsa.
Rice.
Sour cream.
Yep. That's how I roll.
Good thing I don't live in the city, otherwise I'd be here several nights a week and weigh well over 500lbs.
If they add a carne asada this could go up to 5 stars pretty quick. -

Review from Jered G.
San Francisco, CA
As someone who frequents this joint at minimum once a week for the last 4 months it makes me feel fatigue to write this review.
I believe in consistency. Giving a place a review based on one visit is extremely flawed. If you had asked me 3 months ago how I felt about Gordo I would have given 4 stars.
Instead, if I erased that memory and used the last month it would be 2 max, if not 1. Why?
Meat portion. It used to be very significant portion of the burrito. And damn good intoxicating flavor at that. Lately, minimal.
I think it is related to the smaller younger employee who seems to be new. The portions he serves is extremely small in comparision to the other bigger employees. Keep in mind I eat 4-6 burritos from them a month minimum so it isn't a one-time ' well bleep ' occurence.
I noticed it about a month ago and shrugged it off, again, then again last week while getting the mouth-watering steak super burrito. I came away perplexed at how little meat was in the burrito. Now today I ordered carnitas super burrito. I (insert swear word here) you not I only got about half a cup, if not less than a quarter, of carnitas in the whole burrito. I couldn't even TASTE the meat. I think he used his fingertips to pull the meat out after he chopped it up. The remaining chopped amount on table he put on 2 other burritos which I suspect were for employees since there was no line.
And don't get me wrong, the carnitas is very salty, very dominating, and very GOOD. But if you order the saltiest meat on the menu and you can't taste it? Something is going wrong. If I wanted a burrito with nearly 60% rice, 35% beans and 5% meat I would ask for it. No, I would ask for a vegetarian burrito because that is what it was.
I take that back. I wouldn't even order a vegetarian. I'll take my service elsewhere if it happens again. I took a picture of it in the MIDDLE of the burrito to illustrate the point and put it up on Yelp.
Oh, side note, if he is doing that because he was trained to give less, then that is just bad business sense. Give too much and you get a return customer. Give too little and you lose a customer completely.
Signed,
Panda
P.S.: Obviously, I could choose to make it at home, but i'm too damn lazy, why do you think I order a burrito after a long day at work? Not gonna lie.
P.P.S: When order burrito ask for jalepenos when telling them you want salsa/sour cream. Not on menu. -

Awesome burritos! Nothing fancy-schmancy about them but always a great burrito. I absolutely love the rice...yummm! I've been to this location multiple times and also recently got a Gordo burrito at Outside Lands and the quality was exactly the same.
