You can't beat the location. This Goodlife is found in the heart of the business district, and is extremely convenient for anyone living downtown.
The best times to go are after 6 or the weekends, when the work crowd is nowhere to be found. The trainers are great, and the regulars are helpful - everyone is willing to spot you.
The reason I'm withholding the 5 star rating is due to the size - its not the biggest location, and during peak hours (morning or 4 - 6) good luck finding time on the squat rack or bench press. -

I've frequented Scotia Square's Nubody's since moving to Halifax and have gotten very comfortable here. Its a small to medium sized gym, but the happy staff and laid back atmosphere makes it a good spot to get a sweat on.
Its a bright and polished facility. I've noticed cleaning staff trickling along in discretion, assuring the consistence of pristine clean. The gym's large selection of cardio machines means never waiting in line. However, make sure to sign up during busy hours or you may get booted off. (This method seems dated to me.)
The weight room is decent as well, although I've often found it to be dominated by muscly men. I've been able to get past this, however it is just one of those things that may be off-putting for some. Luckily, there is a women's only weight/ cardio room just off the ladies locker room. Its small, but definitely great to have.
Lunch and dinner hours are the peak busy times. You'll catch the working crowd from the Scotia Square businesses popping in for a mid day workout or after a day's work. Otherwise the gym is pretty low-key.
They've got 3 mini studios and one large one. You can use any one of them when there aren't classes going on, so have a private stretch if you like. The option is there! An array of classes are offered frequently as well. Spin, yoga, weight and cardio classes can be a nice switch up from the regular routine.
Nubody's has recently been bought over by Goodlife Fitness, which means there may be some subtle changes to come. New classes are already being offered, and I'm wondering if there will be an update in some of the machinery. Perhaps?
This location is a nice spot for those who like to avoid the 'sceney' aspect of gyms. Its relaxed, friendly and comes with a bit less hustle. (Excluding lunch and dinner hour.) -

Not my favorite Nubody's/Goodlife, but still decent enough for a jaunt at the gym.
I find that this location is more cramped than others, and if you are heading to the gym during peak hours (which are usually early morning, midday at around lunch hour, and mid-evening), things tend to get a little chaotic and noisy.
Also, like Joshua mentioned, there is virtually no natural light here, which kind of dampens my mood while I'm working out (ironic, since working out is supposed to release endorphins to make you happy...)
I will say that this Nubody's does have an extensive supply equipment availiable, which means quick access to the machines without wasting time waiting. And the equipment is for the most part in good shape (save for a few items that get broken when 'novice' members aren't taught how to properly use them...). Also, the gym and its equipment is cleaner than what you might find at other fitness centre chains, though it's in keeping with other Nubody's/Goodlife Centres I've frequented in the past.
Bottom line: Though the gym is conveniently located, and is stocked with plenty of equipment for members' perusal, it's just a little too hectic for me when there's a big crowd, and it doesn't provide much of a relaxing atmosphere during workouts. To be honest, given the price of a Nubody's membership, I'd expect a little more from this location. My advice: bring your Ipod and turn it up on bust when you get here so you can drown out the background noises while working out, or if you have membership at other clubs, try the Nubody's on Spring Garden- it'll make for a more relaxing, enjoyable workout sesh. -

I am a fan of Nubody's but I cannot see the light here.
Nubody's at Scotia Square mall is unique, but not in a good way. It has no natural light coming into it. There is no way to fix this, that I know of, but it does tend to make me a bit depressed. The overall setting just feels like you are in there to work out then get out. It's not that the staff aren't friendly. In fact they are great! But the mood at the club is just a bit depressing. I think it could have something to do with the fact that there is no real "character" to the place. The gym is just crammed with equipment and a few studio spaces but there is nothing special from its design that makes it welcoming.
With that aside, lets get to the reason why I gave it four stars. Even without natural light this place deserves four stars. As I said they crammed this gym with every piece of equipment one could. I love the amount of treadmills and the amount of televisions / channels you can choose from while you run your race. There is a vast amount of circuit machines which are nice, but I am more of a free weight kind of guy. Unfortunately the free weight section is rather small and you might end up bumping shoulder's with a guy whose shoulder's are twice the size of yours.
The locker room area is clean and setup so you can get in and out pretty easily. The staff here are friendlier than other Nubody's, that's for sure. I took notice of that right away as I am always greeted with smiles on my way in every time.
This gym is convenient for anyone working in the general area. I love the fact that its in a mall, so I can work out then shop or grab a bite to eat. And Nubody's as a company isn't that bad. They charge biweekly at around twenty or so dollars, not including tax. So its a fair price especially when you can choose which Nubody's you'd like to go to at any given day without being charged anything because its not your normal gym. -

This is my favourite GoodLife location in Halifax. But it's not for everyone!
Let's get to what I like:
* It's not busy in the mornings or on the weekends; the two times I'm most likely to go. It is quite busy during the "lunch our" and "after work" during the week. So much so I avoid going.
* All types of people work out here. Unlike other locations (I'm looking at you Park Lane) where it's all about looking pretty, people come here to sweat. People of all shapes and sizes use this gym.
* Equipment - lots of it! While the free weight area may be small, there is a ton of cardio and circuit equipment. It's pretty rare I ever have to wait for a machine.
* Clean - while all of the gyms I've gone to in the GoodLife (formerly Nubody's) chain have been clean, this place just 'feels' clean.
* Friendly staff; always smiling and ready to answer any questions you may have.
* Location. I live relatively close and used to work at Scotia Square so this is an ideal location for me. For those of you who take the bus, it's right downtown where there are a ton of bus options. For those of you who drive, you can park on the street (depending on time of day, it could be free) or inside.
So what's not to love? Well, it depends on your needs.
* Classes - they're either really early, middle of the day or just "after work." Most of the evening classes started well before 6. Which never worked for me. However, if you're working until 4:30, these hours are probably great for you. There also aren't many classes on the weekends. I'm not a huge class person so it works for me.
* Free weights - as I said, if you're big into free weights, this may not be the gym for you.
* Hours. They open crazy early (5:30 a.m.) and close at 10 during the week. However, on the weekend, they're only 8 to 8. Which, if you're a morning person like me, may not be quite early enough.
Overall, I'm giving it 5 Stars. It's a great place to work out.
