This Good Earth location is the largest coffee shop I have been to before. There is plenty of seating for groups of 2-4. The menu is well balanced with sweet and savory food choices, as well as plenty of tea and coffee.
The thing I like best about Good Earth is the focus on organic and direct trade coffee, wholesome foods, and environmental responsibility (I don't feel as guilty when I forget my thermos, their to go cups are compostable!) This however, does come with a price, and Good Earth is more expensive than most other coffee shops. -

The two main reasons I come to this Good Earth location is because it has plenty of natural light and, being so close to University of Alberta buildings, I can access the UofA wireless network (there is free wireless for the public, but the UofA wireless tends to be faster). It is quite a large area usually full of university students or hospital staff (both are across the street). The Greenhouse salad bar shares the space, so you can have a salad with your coffee.
The service here tends to vary between simply respectful to extremely pleasant and helpful. This morning I wanted to order a Matcha tea and the barista was pleased to explain to me how it worked and the pricing. A simple but tasty alternative (warning it does contain caffeine and is very green).
My usual is decaf coffee. Twice when I got it it tasted watered down. One time I brought my problem to the attention of staff, but they seemed confused. I went back to my table disappointed. Eventually a few minutes later I was offered a new cup from a new brew which turned out to be much better. I'm not sure about the regular coffee, I assume it's good if the other reviews are any indication--I know they only service organic fair trade which tends to be good quality.
Prices are similar to Starbucks/Second Cup but the ambiance is much less intimate, more like Tim Horton's. -

No alarms and No surprises ..... Good Earth is a lovely little coffee shop with surprisingly spacious seating and free wifi. They serve up delectable baked goods with a good selection of coffees, from the espresso clan to the brewed varieties. I believe they have four varieties of brews at all times, which is really nice and definitely raises the level of coffee & food quality in the reasonably ordinary campus corridor of 112th street.
One thing that's certainly worth mentioning is the breakfast "crustless" quiche. It's really quite tasty and not overly filling, thanks to the missing crust. I have had it twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The muffins are also quite tasty and certainly made very fresh.
The service is nice and friendly and the atmosphere is campus oriented, young and modern. The coffee beans are organic, the tea selection is of the better variety and the baked goods are tasty. Come here for a break! -

Possibly my favourite coffee shop in the city. Big selection of baked goods - scones, muffins, cookies - that aren't necessarily good for you, but good to eat! Take your coffee and treat to the table of your choice, too. It's usually busy, but it's such a big place that it's rare you won't find a chair. Tall tables, small tables, and a few big comfy chairs, too.
Because it's in the U of A area, you'll find a lot of students and professors in here, and for good reason. The coffee is strong and the wireless is free (no password)! Only a few plug-ins, though.
If you need something more sustainable (that is their forte, after all), try out a panini, or some greens from the salad bar at the back.
Happy, friendly staff and a happy atmosphere. Lots of windows and lots of reusable mugs and plates to go around! -

LOVE love LOVE Good Earth! The most delicious paninis in the world - especially their vegetarian one with apples & eggplant (sounds weird but DELISH!). Their coffee, lattes, and slushies will never disappoint!
They are environmentally responsible and support green energy... Gotta love a place you can feel good about, too!
The only reason they don't get 5 stars... is price... they are definitely on the pricey side and I usually come with coupons in hand from the SUTP coupon book!
Table space can be limited as it's usually full of students and profs...
... Oh so YUMMY! I don't think I've ever had something here I didn't enjoy! I don't get to come as often anymore as I don't work on the south side anymore... but when I'm in the area, I'm sure to stop in!

I can count on only one hand the number of times I've been to Good Earth. Yet each of those times, I've had the same experience:
1. Mediocre lattes - weak, or odd flavour.
2. Fantastic space and free wifi for working on a laptop.
3. Delicious baked goods and lunch food.
4. A cost that reflects a cafe that prides itself on organic ingredients.
All in all, now that I'm working nearby, I would say that I'd return for the food, but walk the extra blocks to Leva for a tastier latte or Tim Hortons for a cheaper coffee. -

Good Earth is my go-to place. Tons of seating, music not too loud, decent coffee, and the nummiest pastries on 112th St. Those berry-white-chocolate scones are solely responsible for the little love cushion that now graces my belly.
It's a great place to work, but the one thing is that the steady stream of people pouring in means that you will constantly be running into colleagues and friends and not only will you stop working but you'll have powder sugar around your mouth and your top button undone, and that's embarrassing.
The one thing that annoys me is that they recently replaced the panini wraps with large buns, which is tasty but a problem for those of us who don't want to have to buy new pants. Also, do I really need to pay more than $2 for a simple cup of tea? Jeez! You can bet I'm going to use a lot of your milk and honey. Might even take the jug home with me.
At least they will refill your hot water for free if you ask nicely.
Thanks, Good Earth! -

If you want to go offstream, and support a coffee shop that is not Starbucks or Second Cup, visit Good Earth cafe. This independently owned coffee place serves organic, shade grown and Ethical trade coffee. I have purchased a pack of Latin America Estate Blend, and the taste is really smooth and creamy. I will repurchase.
The cafe itself is a place frequented by students with their laptops. The earthy tones decor is very simple. The true stars of this place are coffee and snacks. The baked treats such as muffins, scones and cakes taste hearty and fulfilling, and have a little bit of extra kick. Once I have tried a zucchini/barley muffin, and it turned out to be delicious.
Good Earth also serves soups, salads and sandwiches which due to this place's close proximity to the university and its perpetually starving students, is very convenient. -

Two words describe Good Earth: awesome and expensive. Although I really like this place, I don't come here too often, because it empties my pockets. I can see why it's expensive, because they are trying to be environmentally-friendly, and healthy food usually costs more money.
What I have had here though was really good. I had some kind of smoothie once, and that hit the spot on such a hot day. I've also had some of their vegetable salads and sandwiches, that I really enjoyed.
This is the perfect place to come to if you want to be alone or to have a private conversation. I know this, because I've done this, and it's not likely someone is going to overhear you vent about your ex or whatever. The area is large and the tables are well spaced out. I really like sitting near the back in the comfy chairs by the fireplace.
If I was rich, I'd come here all the time. Why are the good things so expensive? Why?! -

Good Earth is not your typical coffee shop. They pride themselves with organic grown coffee beans and soups, sandwiches and cakes made fresh daily. There has never been a time where their coffee has felt flavorless or their cookies stale.
Good Earth is furnished with lots of sofa, chairs, stools and tiny tables. This is not a great place for you to go with more than 3 people. Instead the small tables and furniture arrangement are such that it creates intimacy. Especially if you're a student, there are only a handful of places accessible that are within walking distance.
That being said, everything comes with a price. If you're looking for cheap coffee, just go to the Tim Horton's down the street. If you're looking for excellent tasting coffee (or fantastic hot chocolate) with a great environment that's warm and inviting, choose Good Earth. Keep in mind that this establishment is beside campus, so it can get really busy during the peak lunch hours. -

I really like Good Earth. The coffee tastes fresh and the order is always hot.
A medium latte only cost me $3 and change! What a deal compared to Starbucks or any other big wigs. The staff are really friendly too and the atmosphere here is awesome. The place is filled with students studying for exams and reading up on bio chemical what not.
This place is an awesome place to hang out and drink a latte. -

I'm always on the lookout for a cafe that has free Internet - and if it's got great coffee and healthy eats too, it's a writer's away-from-home Mecca. Open seven days a week and located close to the university, this is a great spot to unwind, grab some grub or get wired. The coffee's a-o.k. Made in the shade and grown in ways that protect biodiversity. When I was there the dishwashers were broken and they were using paper cups and plates. Support fair-trade and kill a tree .... bah ... what can ya do?!
To make up for it, there's plenty of natural sunlight in Good Earth. Wall-to-wall front windows brighten up the space and the back area has a fireplace and leather couches to lounge around on. Here they serve up the ultimate comfort food - homemade Mac 'n' Cheese and hearty healthy soups, panini sandwiches, fresh-baked scones, muffins and more. Check out their website for a nutritional chart for their whole menu. I ordered the pumpkin spice muffin, which wasn't exactly low-cal but delicious on a rather brisk autumn day. I'll be back soon to Good Earth. Just the name me feel warm & fuzzy all over. -

As much as possible, I try to check out coffee shops that do not belong to major chains. I occasoinally pop into Good Earth when I am in the University area. I find the coffee to be very rich and flavourful. The cafe is also huge -- plenty of places to sit and work on your laptop. If you want something to snack on, Good Earth has a lot of soups, sandwiches, and baked goods. The company has a good philosophy of environmental responsibility, which is attractive in this day and age.

The Good Earth Cafe opened in my last year of University and it was a place I stopped frequently for a morning coffee. This is a HUGE space which is great for students and groups looking for a place to sit and work. They have WiFi and ample seating. They sell fresh salads, granola, fresh baked goods and bagged coffee to go. I wandered in a few days ago and remembered this old favorite with the warm staff and the healthy menu. I sat and enjoyed a tea and the atmosphere as I studied for an upcoming certification test. This is a great space for students and anyone looking for a healthy treat in the university area. The coffee is not the most tasty in the world, but its not the worst either, and their baking will keep you going back!
