Two words, Filipino Barbecue. Do yourself a favor and research it at Goldilocks. You'll understand my 4 stars and short review.

Sit down to eat food (Filipino cuisine).. wasn't that great. I actually feel a bit sick right now :( so i'll give that a 1 star. Its hard to see all your food as well, and they keep it out, so you never know how long its been sitting there for *eeps, my tummy just gave another lurch*

I left with one of their sylvana cakes tho ($1.95) a slice. Its a hard, cold, pastery.. which is very delicious and creamy and crispy. That i give a 5 star!

Balancing this out to a 3 star :)
Will go back for their sylvana cakes. and probably leave it at that.

When I was growing up in the Philippines, Goldilocks and Red Ribbon were the 2 generic, for the masses kinda bakeshops prominent around. Although there were several specialty bakeshops around (my mom used to go to 2 that were more high end), whenever we wanted something that was easy to get we would always get it from Goldilocks or Red Ribbon. The cakes are deelish, the pastries are fun and tasty, and the food was pretty good.

With something to compare it to, the Goldilocks here isn't even a close match to the ones I got accustomed to. Sure they have the same colorful and fun pastries, serve the same savory dishes and have the same grand cakes, but it's decent at best. It's not like it's terrible; I'd still go there and eat whenever I want accessible Flip food.

Be sure to check out the selection of Filipino pastries and treats at the bakeshop half of the store. This is their best section. My absolute favorite is the Polvoron, a treat similar to a shortbread and the Mamon, a light and fluffy pastry that's perfect-o for my sweet tooth.  Try the Ube stuff as well, that's tasty

And the Sans Rival.. oh my damn that Sans Rival.

Google description for Sans Rival: Layers of cashew meringue sandwiched with French buttercream, and topped with chopped cashews. A very rich dessert from the Philippines.

    Yep, sounds about right.

Parking around this area is a b**** though. You could try parking in the garage at the back alley. That's where my friends and I usually park when we go.

I'm a big fan of the pre-packaged Goldilocks pastries -- esp the mocha mamon! -- and I was excited to find that this Goldilocks carried a wide array of goodies.

The downside? The "homemade" Filipino food. Not so bueno. I tried their pork bbq skewers and it was doused in some sort of super sweet bbq sauce. When I took a bite, I also found that the meat was hard and difficult to chew.

I say come here if you like the Goldilocks pastries but skip the food they cook themselves.

I grew up in Manila and I know how to find out when the dish has been sitting around and waiting to be ordered by some fool. Unfortunately, im the fool today. I ordered for the first time a Pork Binagoongan (pork with shrimp paste). When I opened it, it comes with un-skinned egg plant and old Pork Binagoongan because the meat is already tough and too many tough pork skin versus the meat.

I ended up with Pork BBQ, which I find tasty. Not bad at all. but the main dish was terrible!

Although their food is failry decent, visiting from Seattle I wouldn't give them a good rating for the simple fact that they got uspset with me for taking Pictures by the Wedding Cakes, a woman from the back came out screaming NO PICTURES, I was so embarrassed after the long travel to get there that was  last thing I expected to happen when walking into a Filipino Bakery. Customer service is a two thumbs down!

The bakery shop is good, but their food is awful.  It's not authentic at all, and it doesn't even look clean.  The prices on both ends are exorbitant - I realise that some of these dishes are painstaking to make, but all the same, the prices aren't reasonable, especially for the quality.  My mom cooks Filipino food all the time and just looking at some of this stuff, I can't identify it.  It's probably a regional variation but I thought that all Goldilocks recipes were standardized, and having eaten at Goldilocks in Manila, it just doesn't match up.

My biggest beef about Goldilocks, especially this location, is the awful customer service.  I actually had one of the 'servers' whine to me about having to go to the back to retrieve some more mamon, and then pointedly ask for a tip.  They're also really rude and unhelpful, and I can hear them make comments about my boyfriend (who isn't Filipino).

The Main street location is slightly better, but also doesn't carry as many things - however, it's much cleaner, and my few experiences there have always been positive.  Filipino food around Vancouver is scarce - at least, we haven't been able to find any good places, besides Aling Mary's - but I'd rather go without than go here again.

This bakery/restaurant is pretty interesting.  The decor is great and it's clean.  The baked goods looked too good to eat.  I didn't go there for dessert but I went there for the Phillipino food.  My friends and were hungry and we didn't want to eat at Earl's or Joey's.  So out on a whim, we never tried phillipino food before so we said "why not!".

They have it set up so it's a order and pick up on the spot, like food court style.  Everything has been pre-cooked and the food just needs to be set on a plate.  Even though everything looked great, what I didn't like and will never go back to this place is that the food was greasy, salty and very sweet!  My taste buds were instantly falling off my tongue! I think I was in the sugar coma for the rest of the day.  It was just gross!

I came here to buy some empanadas and coconut buns for some ladies at work (they cooked me some pancit and I wanted to thank them!) I got a coconut bun for myself and was pleasantly surprised.. these buns are better than the usual chinese ones I find at T&T.

I can't speak for any of the actual food items, but the bakery was fantabulous.. Next time I'm going to try some actual cuisine.

Goldilocks Bake Shop is one of the famous Filipino bakeshops back home in the Philippines. I just can't understand why they think it's best to take advantage of migrant Filipinos and jack up their pricing outside of the country. Granted the cost of living is different, it still doesn't warrant charging a lot for simple baked goods. And at this price, they should be using organic ingredients. I can get better pricing and quality ingredients at Wholefoods.

So it pains me to give this restaurant a bad rating, but it is necessary.

Much has already been said about Goldilocks Bake Shop.  But every time I pass by I wonder where the heck are the 3 little bears?  Sigh....

Today we fought the crowds (it was incredibly crowded!) and picked up some buko pandan hopia.  These little treats are very similar to Chinese wife cakes, but a little plumper and the white bean filling is green because of the pandan.  Didn't detect any coconut flavour, as I would have expected, but they were delicious!

I suppose they weren't too big, they weren't too small, they were just right......Staying true to my bastardization of their name.

Mmmmm, ang sarap sarap! (lol, sorry I was channelling my inner "Adobo Manok" video, seriously, check it out on youtube if you haven't seen it already)

Anywho... we stopped by last week on our way to watch Apolo Ohno compete in the olympics, but that's a totally different review. After driving 2.5 hours from Seattle, we were in dire need of food lovin'. We ordered pork sinigang, palabok, lechon kawali, and ukoy. All of it was pretty darn good, except for the ukoy. Save your self the disappointment, and pass on the ukoy: very dry and bland.

The bakery on the other hand was fantastic. Everything was good: mamon, cheese bread, hopia, ensaymada, and the list goes on and on.

I don't make it up to Vancouver that often, but I'm there, you can find me at Goldilocks!

Located in Vancouver, BC this is the closest Goldilocks Bake Shop from Seattle, WA. I went here just recently for the first time. It was nice taking a snack break here!

The only time I can get my hands on treats from this Bake shop is from traveling to the Homeland in the Philippines, where you see Goldilocks on every street corner and begin to almost hallucinate and wonder where the three bears are hiding!! O.o

California has an abundance of Goldilocks Bake Shops, but for some reason, Canada knows how to make a tastier batch of Goodness :-)  Now I wonder if I can get stuff from this location delivered home?

I certainly stocked up on Polvoron - Similar to the English Shortbread; a mixture of toasted flour, milk, butter, and sugar cooked and then molded. I Also grabbed a couple Mamons - A soft and fluffy French Sponge cake; the "Special" variety is brushed with butter and sprinkled with cheese and sugar; also comes in mocha, chocolate, and ube (purple yam) flavored variety.

Goldilocks Bake Shop - Vancouver, BC V6J 1X6  Thank you for bringing back child hood memories  :-)

For those who have ever set foot on Filipino soil, the Goldilocks logo will be a familiar sight. On every corner, in the airport, the yellow Goldilocks sign hangs brightly and unabashedly over the crowds. The unprecedented growth and popularity of the Goldilocks franchise is unparalleled. Here in North America, however, Goldilocks remains in the sole ownership of one family. They have set up shop in California and until recently, there was only one store in Canada.

The Broadway branch is the original. Long-standing patrons will remember its former blanched white walls and unflattering fluorescent lighting. Since then, Goldilocks has undergone a makeover and is now widely reputed for providing familiar favourites to the local Filipino community and beyond.

Mamons (small sponge cakes that come in various flavours like mocha and ube) are widely popular and are often gone by mid-day. Pan de sal (salty dinner rolls) are purchased by the half dozen to be frozen and re-heated later for out-of-towners. People hankering for smaller snacks scramble to get their hands on pinipig polvoron (small shortbread cookies with rice krispies). Needless to say, the baked goods are widely popular. On top of the more traditional flavours, they also carry cupcakes, cheesecakes and crème caramel.

They also have a cafeteria-like section that has pre-packaged and fresh food that can either be taken-away or eaten there. To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of some of the food but their tilapia always looks good, as does the turon (deep-fried bananas).

I love their mamon, their brazo de mercedes, their pan de sal, their chicken siopao and good customer service.

I have heard about this place from a friend and have been wanting to go, so when some friends of mine and I planned a road trip, we made sure to stop in here first!

Being here feels a bit like being in the Philippines again...it's weird, because hello, we're in Canada!

Ooh, still thinking of their mamon.

    Carbs-galore~

I LOVE bread, so I skipped over to Goldilocks hoping to find something to satisfy my constant craving for carbs. The service wasn't that great - there were a number of servers, but when I asked if someone could help me, one girl gave me a look as if I had stepped on her toe, then said impatiently, "whaddaya want?" Maybe she was having a bad day - I dunno. So I quickly asked for one Valentine chocolate cupcake and one loaf of Pandesiosa. They were both satisfying to my sweet-tooth (the Pandesiosa tastes like King's Hawaiian rolls glazed with sugar), but I don't know if I'll go back any time soon.

This is the closest I'll ever get to an actual Goldilocks bakery. Sad. I have fond childhood memories of Goldilocks in the Philippines, and was thinking of having Goldilocks cake, decorated Filipino-style, with figurines and climbing stairs, in sugar icing and white or mocha cake, for the eventual wedding. Considering it's too much of a hassle to carry it across the border anyway, I guess we'll have to scratch that idea.

While I was there, I pointed every which pastry I could to friends, and delighted in getting some Goldilocks mamon, ensaymada, brazos de mercedes, hopia, and silvanas. (Those silvanas send a tingle down the spine.) B got a slice of ube roll, and enjoyed it. (Happy!)

I'm going to have to knock down a star, though, for the really shady parking in the back. Literally and figuratively. It did not make me feel safe, at all.

I like their cakes! I always get the ube (purple yam) cake. They make a fab decoration, really pretty! The cake is purple, but it's not too sweet andcit is sooo good! I tried their Rainbow cake too, little bit too sweet for me. I like their buns too, but they are sweet and buttery! A good treat for me once in awhile but not everyday!

I had a friend who used to live just up the street from this bakery and she had a serious addiction to their single-serving desserts. She'd take them to-go so she could have two with no one around to do the counting. So when I needed to buy a birthday cake this little bakery came to mind.

They do cakes, breads, pastries, catering and Filipino cuisine. In addition to the bakery, there is also a buffet-style lunch counter where you can grab a quick lunch or early dinner (they close at 7pm).

I got served quickly and the lady serving me informed me that the price of a cake included decorating and writing on the top. So I had her write a birthday message and she added some colourful flowers to the chocolate top as well. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, we were all disappointed with the cake. For $17.50 I got a 6 inch round chocolate cake. It was fresh with layers of fluffy chocolate cake and mousse-like icing, but it was really sweet and nothing special - what you would expect from a grocery-store cake, but smaller and more expensive. For the next special occasion, I'll either hit the grocery store where you can get an 8-inch Black Forest or Chocolate Fudge cake for $9.99, or find a new bakery.

I had a Goldilocks moment @ Goldilocks...so many things, what to choose? Why don't they put prices on items?...I also couldn't believe that I was actually here after passing by @ least a few thousand times in the past.

This place is a bakery, but then there is a cafeteria-like style restaurant serving Phillipino food...they also had some chinese influence dishes like Shanghai spring rolls and HK style BBQ pork....interesting.

Ok finally, we settled for the Kare Kare and the Chicken Adobo to share with rice. I wanted the Pancit palabok but then we saw how much we already ordered so we decided against it.

The Kare Kare was very coconutty at first, but it came with a sauce that is very much like the shrimp sauce we get in southeast Asian cuisine and was very good when added into the Kare Kare...I also added a few teaspoons of sriracha cause it really needed some kick. After all that addtion, it was then much tastier than before.

The Chicken Adobo was good, very greasy though but resembled the one I had @ Elvie's in NY.

I was very full and so glad we didn't get the pancit.

I'm glad there's some form of Goldilocks relatively nearby to which I can introduce people to its awesomeness. I got spoiled by relatives whenever I visited the Bay Area, and now I have sometimes unfulfillable cravings for their pastries or lumpia.

It's a bit hard to find (I think we looked up directions beforehand so it was a bit smoother for us) and parking may be an issue. So if and when you do find it, try not to get overwhelmed by the baked goods on display and make your trip worth it.

We brought home lots of pastries and lots of lumpia... sadly, the latter must be enjoyed fresh.

Talk about a diamond in the rough this place would be it! Their pastry side has just about everything, my favorite would be all their ube items. The hot food side is another good choice for a quick bite. They have a good selection of "TRADITIONAL" style cooking hot and ready to go for who ever orders it!

Adobo Chicken or Grilled Tamarind Chicken and rice with real flan for desert makes my day. This place had real Filipino food and it's prepared and served properly. Get in early on Saturday if you want flan for desert or you may be buying a whole one to take home, well that's not so bad. Most people drive by and think it is strictly a bakery walk in and explore the world of Filipino street food.

Nom nom nom.  I tried my first (and second) ensaymada here!  The second one I tried had a "filling" of fresh young coconut - the coconut was actually threaded throughout the bread, which gave it an exciting texture.  Great for a little something sweet after lunch at Lin Chinese down the street.
