Cheap dim sum, East Vancouver, and will sit well in your stomach, well then, come to the big yellow sign on Hastings. They have a giant long sign that says $2.75 Dim Sum, Small, Medium, Large, as how the dishes go. The place serves up the specialized Cantonese lunch everyday, including holidays (how us Chinese work 365 days a year). I've only been here for the lunch, and have never come here for the dinner, maybe one day.

The dim sum is order from a piece of paper style. And the translations on the sheet are pretty well accurate. The food comes right after you order, as they steam it up once you submit this to a server. They also have people walking around with some special plates that are not on the menu.

Occasionally they will have seafood specials here, presented in a little ad on the table. Last year I remember you can get a crab cooked to the style they offer (cream sauce, deep fried with spice, etc) for $9. So watch out for this.

Parking is easy to find, as they have a small lot in the back, but around the area, it's still free, with no pay meters, you might have to walk a block, but you will find it.

I saw the giant "$2.75 DIM SUM" banner as I was walking home and promised myself I'd try it out the next Saturday morning.  So glad I did.  Delicious!  Of course Imperial and Victoria have better food, but for this price, I've never had dim sum like this.  Most cheap places are gross, but not Golden Star.  Fresh, not greasy, tasty, and so cheap.  Our bill was $15 for the two of us, and we couldn't even finish the 4 items we ordered.

No carts (always a good sign).  You get a sheet and you fill out what you want and hand it to the first staff member you see, who were all very quick, attentive, and friendly.  The sheet has a full page of $2.75 items, and then on the back there's a whole bunch of other stuff that's $4.75, which you wouldn't have to even look at if you don't want to.

I can't wait to go back next weekend.

Not a bad joint for cheap dim sum.  For $2.75 for most items and the quality you're getting, it's great value.

There is no cart service and dim sum is ordered via tick sheets that is so popular in Vancouver now - which means the dim sum is hot and fresh.  However, the selection is pretty limited compared to more expensive places, but I still saw all the usual dim sum selections.

The dim sum was good and tasty for the most part aside from a house special fish 'siu mai' that I didn't really like.  I came here right at opening at 9AM so it was pretty dead and the service was quick and attentive.  There is also plenty of street parking and they have their own private lot.

Will come back again as I have a feeling that this joint is a place you like more and more the more often you go.  Easy on the pocket and perfectly good dim sum.

I came to this restaurant with my family for dinner and let's just say it will be my last time here.

I ordered a crab meat with fish maw in soup and a lobster. The crab meat with fish maw in soup was alright as it was too salty and didn't have a lot of fish maw. Not worth it.

The lobster was the worst! Prior to cooking the lobster, the waiter came by to say it was 4lbs and it was quite big. But when the lobster came to our table, it was very small! They traded my lobster for another one - a SMALL one. What I found was there were 2 empty abdomen shells but no lobster meat. I double checked the plate to make sure that the lobster meat didn't "fall" off from the shell and onto the plate. However, there was no meat to be found from those 2 abdomen shells. Another thing is that if the lobster meat just "detaches" from its shell, this signifies that the lobster is not fresh. A fresh lobster is not able to do that. When my mom notified the waiter that the lobster meat from 2 abdomen shells were missing, the waiter tried to make up an excuse. The only conclusion you can think of is that people in the kitchen snuck-thief ate our lobster meat! After talking to the waiter, he deducted the price of the lobster. This was not the point...we didn't ask for a price deduction. We wanted to find out if the people in the kitchen ate our lobster meat...knowing that AND putting the shells back into the plate is disgusting!! We told the waiter that we didn't want it anymore.

They told us to order something else so we chose Ging Dou (Jing Du) Porkchops. When the porkchops came out, I found a strand of black hair...*gag*...disgusting! Ugh. We told the waiter and he gave us a dirty look that we were so inconveniencing him. What kind of service is that? Even though I didn't eat much, I felt full from the horrible dinner.

No doubt that this review will be 1 out of 5 stars.

I'd totally go back here!  4 of us spent $50 and had leftovers.  The portions are big.  Things like sui mai and har gow (called Crystal Dumplings or something like that) are standard sized but the sesame balls and gyoza were huge.  There was only a short wait when we got there and the service was fast and efficient.  The place was certainly hopping!!  It's disappointing that places still serve shark fin soup though!  We sat around chatting for a while after we'd finished until the manager very politely thanked us.  When we said 'you're welcome' in pleasant surprise he mentioned that there was a long wait.  LOL!  We thought he was being very polite but he was politely asking us to get the heck out!!  We totally understood though.  I'll definitely go back to this place.
