I just went there today with my mom and my daughter. We all enjoyed the food and service. We will definitely return again

This is solid dim sum, folks, and the prices are very reasonable, particularly if you come before 11:00 a.m. and get 20% off. You just need to be seated by then.
Also, it's one of the last dim sum restaurants to wheel dishes around on the carts. The fact that this place is always packed with hungry customers ensures that there is a steady stream of freshly made dim sum circulating. And when you think dim sum, you think food carts, right? If we have out-of-town guests, we always bring them here for the bustling experience that, unfortunately, most newer dim sum restaurants are foregoing.
And the lady who tallies up your bill at the end (you can bring it up to her if you're in a rush) is a virtuoso at what she does. I'm inclined to trust her, since i never know how much each stamp costs (plus there's the discount), and the bill always comes out to lower than I think it should. -

This restaurant does dinners as well as putting on a very good Dim Sum. I give it 1.5 stars for decor, but 4 for the food. Dim Sum is worth the wait. Waiters pushing carts full of Siu Mai, ha gao and all kinds of goodness help keep the tummy happy. The only downside is that they don't have bbq pork buns with the golden brown outside.
Dinners are your regular Cantonese fare, but everything is fresh and a decent price. -

This place is a clear gem in Kerrisdale. We got there at 10am when it was still early, but by 10:30 the place had already filled up. By the time we left at 11:30, there was a crowd at the door, a crowd outside the door, and a crowd downstairs on the sidewalk. Now that's an impressive following.
Why is this place so great? Let me count the ways:
1. 20% off dim sum if you pay your bill before 11:30am
2. no tea fee!
3. the largest variety in dim sum I've had in a long long time
First, 7 dishes came out to $25. What? That's right, that is indeed an amazing price. How fantastic is that! My hands were shaking as I reached for my credit card - that feeling you get when you've somehow scored such an amazing deal and you're really nervous that they might realize they calculated something wrong and the next time they bring it back it will be 35 or something. That's how excited I was.
The other amazing thing is that the best food comes out when more people are there. When you get there early, there isn't a lot of dim sum selection. I was kind of worried that the place was a dud since they basically had one push cart and it was pushing the same stuff around over and over again. Every now and then a server would come by with some different dumplings on a tray, but then we just sat there.
But by 11, I was ordering a gazillion things and really pissed off I didn't have more room in my stomach. Things we got that I was crazy excited about: mango + cream crepes, these green deep-fried dessert balls filled with black sesame paste, and a baked tapoica pudding. The pea shoot and shrimp dumplings were also a winner. Things that passed me by that made me wish I had a second stomach: Chinese sponge cake, mushroom rice roll (or any rice roll for that matter, I didn't see any of them for an entire hour and when it finally got to me there was only one left and the table beside me snatched it up), deep fried chicken knuckles, and tofu soup dessert.
... I just realized that a lot of things I ate / want to eat are desserts. I think I have a sugar problem.
Anyways, I'll definitely be back for a visit. The place is small, the seats are cramped, but the food is well worth it! -

Alaskan King Crab (we had a 9.5 pound'r) - done 3.5 ways -
1) Crab legs steamed w garlic
2) Knuckles deep fried in pepper/chili/salt batter
3) Juice from #1 mixed wonton noodles
4) Rest of crab w scallops fried rice, served "portugese" style in crab shell
This is like freakin Iron Chef w king crab the secret ingredient....
The meal was excellent ! The crab flavor was subtle and sweet - not too much garlic to overpower the crab and all dishes not over salted -

My wife and I are regulars here, although now that we don't live in Kerrsidale, we are stuck with only monthly visits. My wife loves it because they called her my wife before we got married and they know us by name, so we generally get pretty good tables even in crowded times =)
Ambiance (2.5/5) : Nothing great, decor could use some updating and the waiting area layout sucks...when it gets packed, it's like running through the gauntlet.
Food (3.5/5) : Fresh, steamed dim sum ahoy! My favourites are the garlic pea tips, pan-fried white radish cakes and their beef rice rolls. Joyce mentioned the Steamed scallop on Egg Tofu, and I agree, love those too!
Service (3/5) : If you get stuck in a crummy location, the carts could be emptied of yummy food before it gets to you, but fear not, (HOT TIP!) if you ask a server politely if there is anymore of a certain dish or dishes you would like, they will try to get those out to your table pronto. It's great, if I'm lazy, I can wait for carts but if I'm famished, I just ask away and get served like a normal restaurant. Can't go wrong with that.
FYI...just park underneath the London Drugs behind the plaza. Free parking! -

My family loves this restaurant, alot of people love this restaurant and usually I don't really find it anything that special but now my mind's been changed.
A few weeks ago, my mother decided to have her birthday here and because there wasn't that many of us, I was actually allowed to order. Yes being 26 stil constitutes as a child when having big family dinners.
One thing I really liked was the steamed scallop atop egg tofu. Simple and clean tasting. Yummy. We ordered a couple other dishes and they were also done quite well. The chefs know how to give dishes "wok hey"
I think Golden Ocean does a really good job of making simple, classic cantonese dishes. I wouldn't come here for very creative dishes. -

This was my first time having Dim Sum. It was delicious. I am from NYC, Couch Surfing. I was traveling with a friend, and we got invited for lunch. I only figured out the name of this place because I payed with my credit card.
The food was great. I was lucky to have 2 people from China in our group who could do all the ordering for us. I don't remember all the things we got, but I do remember enjoying it all.
Particulary tasty in my mind were the pork buns, dumplings, and rice balls. Yum Yum Yum.
(Side note: Since this was my first time eating Dim Sum, I have nothing to compare it too. The awesomeness of the whole experience might have made this seem like a better dim sum restaurant than it is; however, I have had plenty of Chinese food, and this place rocked it).
Total bill for a large party of people who left utterly stuffed and tried way to many things = 21 dollars per person. -

Mathematics was never my strong skill. Only days later after talking to friends had I realized that the restaurant inflates the prices of their dishes (marking a majority of them as medium-sized on the placecard) to give the appearance of 20% off as an actual deal.
$37.75 for 9 dishes = $4.19 (uncertain how much they charged for tea)

Located on the second floor, this dim sum place can be pretty hidden. I see a lot more non-Asian dining here then elsewhere. It was highly recommended by a local too.. came here around 10:30am to avoid the long wait.
It was loud and exciting, with conversations and orders all over the place. Food was amazing. There were also some very creative dishes like, the scallop with fried taro; baked tapioca pudding with red bean dessert, etc. The classic dim sum was also excellent. Fried tofu with chilli peppers, ha gao (shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork & shrimp dumplings), lotus wrap sticky rice with mushrooms and etc.
Gosh I'm getting hungry now as I am typing this up. -___- -

Went up to Vancouver for a last minute weekend trip and tried Golden Ocean for Dim Sum before heading back. Was really looking forward to some delicious dim sum and left Golden Ocean slightly unsatistisfied.
Items seemed to be a hit or miss. Staples like cha siu bao, siu mai and ha gao were good. The rice wrapped in banana leaves was bland and filling was weak.
Cart service was REALLY lacking. But servers were all very nice and friendly.
And there wasn't really a wait even at noon...so...that might indicate there is better dim sum around the area. -

This continues to be one of Vancouver's most consistent and delicious Chinese Seafood restaurants that remains predominantly visited by locals.
Don't get me wrong I still bring my tourist friends here, but it's more off the tour books and sites than say Sun Sui Wah or Kirin.
What makes this place a success is the fact that they're not so Asian that non-Asians feel uncomfortable dining here. It's always a balanced crowd, served eagerly by some of the friendliest and chattiest waitstaff I've ever seen at a Chinese restaurant.
Menus are bilingual without any of the misspellings or grammatical errors.
I hear that owner of this place was also the co-owner (before he sold out his share) of the other popular "Golden" cafes like Golden Oscar and Golden Award etc.
Be sure to get the super soft tofu, it's one of the smoothest most delicious dishes they have. -

Yummmmmmmmmy dim sum!!!!
Don't expect a fancy nice restaurant... you come here for the FOOD!!! You wouldn't notice this place unless you knew exactly what you were coming for. I was taken out to lunch by Chinese friends and I went up a set of stairs thinking "What? There's a restaurant here?"
It's basic, spacious, lots of seating, very plain. It seemed pretty crowded and hectic... But I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a waitress who was very nice and seated us almost immediately. It's a very cool setting with a lot of tourists, locals, Chinese and non-Chinese customers all eating and enjoying themselves.
My experience would have been quite different if my entire table weren't Chinese - I was the only exception! I just sat there listening to my party who chose dishes from the various waitresses with push carts. But everything they ordered was SOO good... Chinese green spinach, shrimp spring rolls, shrimp dumplings, fried taro with seafood, bean and ginger cakes... Every dish was very, very distinctive, tasty and was so interesting! I had never had fried taro or ginger cakes before and thought it was delicious.
It's a popular place among locals AND foreigners; a must-visit for authentic dim sum!!! -

Another dimsum dive with the "golden" moniker. God knows how many they are! Situated right behind the complex where Ajisai is located, underground parking was quite convenient and upon taking a couple of flight upstairs, a typical Cantonese style restaurant stands. This maybe the only authentic Cantonese restaurant in the area of Kerrisdale/Shaughnessy, and this pretty much explains the huge crowd. It's noisy, bustling, very busy, even the servers seem stressed from the pace and vibe of the restaurant. In fact, despite making reservations, I waited still for some time before getting a table.
The food is decent and perhaps a little above average, considering they serve the dimsum the traditional push cart style. My usual staples arrived from the table still fresh, special mention goes to flavourful pork siu mai, and delicious deep fried black sesame balls.
There is still a great deal to be desired ambience wise. I realize that Chinese restaurants are noisy, but it was way too loud here, it makes you want to finish off your food and head out. Probably explains why the staff attitude towards customers seem hurried. The super tight and cramped seating does not help at all either. I've had more pleasant and comfortable dimsum experience elsewhere, even in the side of Asian populated Richmond.
It's a decent dimsum destination only if you're hankering for some Cantonese cuisine and happen to be in the Kerrisdale area. Otherwise, I would head off to Richmond or Kirin for better dimsum eats. -

I love coming here for dim sum! Reservations pretty much required on weekends because it is PACKED, and the wait room sucks. During certain times of the day there is also a discounted rate, but I can't remember the times! Anyway, dinner is good here, too. This place is great, and the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I have had what I think is spectacular at other places, and I almost gave 4. 3.5 would be more precise but I rounded down because I don't want to be too generous or misleading.

The food was typical Chinese. Large dishes, but they go heavy on the salt (or sodium?) because I'm still thirsty the next day after! Also, the restaurant is one large room with dozens of tables and gets very noisy with everyone shouting to talk over everyone else.
