Beautiful teas- it's unfortunate that Kat had such a bad experience with the knowledge of the staff here.
I usually have Richard help me- I tell him what I like- and he helps me choose the appropriate tea. My favorite- Cream Earl Grey. Amaaaaazing!
Richard makes all the truffles and candy apples by hand- each made with love and expertise.
The espresso based drinks are lovely.
    The smoothies are great!
The bagels are to die for- toasted with tomato and cucumber... Try it!
No- I don't work there, and no I'm not best friends with the golden mint crew- but I am a loyal customer who often recommends it to clients and friends.

I had high expectations for this tea emporium - I'm awarding three stars for the wide selection of tea accessories by Randwyck, including many glass/clear mugs and carafes at affordable prices, but the actual tea part is two stars at best.

According to the website: "We carry over 200 types of premium loose leaf teas..."

That's nice. But how about labelling said teas with ingredient descriptions? Telling me a tea is called "Magical Blend" isn't very helpful when I have no clue what makes it so magical. The big tea bins line all the walls and you are welcome to open the sample jars to take a sniff and try to guess what the leaves are blended with based on your sense of smell and sight. I like to know what's in my tea, but there is no ingredient breakdown whatsoever. Teas are about $7.50 for 50g and $11 for 100g.

To top it off the staff wasn't helpful or knowledgeable the way I've come to expect my tea purveyors to be, à la Tealish or David's, the gold standard in Toronto tea sales. I left the store feeling underwhelmed by the experience but hopeful about the two teas I blindly purchased based purely on transparency of ingredients - Lemon Honey Organic and Thai Green Ginger.

Both are undrinkable. One of them tastes like what I imagine urine to taste like, and the other acquires a foul smell once steeped. I'm going to try to pawn these off on an unsuspecting friend whose taste in tea isn't as particular as mine. God that sounded pretentious.

From the outside you would think this is just your average coffee shop, but oh are you so wrong.  Stepping into this land of decadence is like being a kid in a candy store.  The walls are lined with unimaginable blends of loose-leaf teas and the display case lures you in with its erotic array of truffles, candied apples, and chocolate covered marshmallows.

It was too early in the morning for me to delve into any part of the chocolate wonderland before me, so I stayed focused and got my tea before my wandering eyes could betray me.  I was quite impressed by the loose-leaf Earl Grey that I sipped on.  For $2.00, not only does the price rival the likes of Starbucks but the aroma and flavour outshines them by far as well.

Check this place out.  You won't be disappointed.

    we got starbucks - blech.
we got tims - has a following, but, kinda boring
we got tutti fruitti - expensive candy and currency exchange.
we got shoppers - (everyone loves shoppers)

such are the four corners of the mediocre intersection we call college and yonge.  i am here very often as i just need to take the college streetcar east and i am home.

now thankfully, just north of the tutti is the golden mint.  its a peculiar place.  why.  its got a strange chair setup.  there are some bouncy cushiony chairs, some couchy chairs for people with small asses and more bar stools along the window for the same type of folks.

(i sure hope not too much of my arse was hanging off of the bar stool as i sipped my green tea.)

i had an hour to spare and came in here because i didnt want any candy or currency, i find tim hortons to be too fast foody, starbucks is too filled with burnt tasting coffee and pretentiousness and though i love it, i didnt need anything from shoppers.

the desserts that were there looked absolutely INCREDIBLE.  they were candied or chocolate covered apples.  i would never even order this ever but still they caught my eye so for you carnival lovers out there, skip tutti and come here.

the only thing that was burnt here was their internet connection....and for some reason, people kept staring at me as they walked by.

maybe it was because of my fat ass.
