Just for the decor & service -- for now. Only walked in to do a few inquiries yesterday, but can say that i was blown away by its combination of tradition and modern decor, the fancier, silk-like table linen--even the hand linen had a flowery pattern to it.
But to the Buddhists or art purists, they would be impressed by the plentiful of not the usual jade Buddha's on the front counter, but also a huge bat choy decorative piece too.
Seems to have just been recently renovated, and the washroom, though a bit small for this restaurant of this size --- 25 tables? -- just one urinal & one toilet. But a heckuva lot cleaner than most chinese restos (i'm chinese).
The style is definitely more banquet style, so up there w/ the Kirins, etc. especially in this neighbourhood of PNE.
will bring my parents here soon to take advantage of their $12.99/lb Alaskan crab special, and of course, report back! -

Ok, I know the reviews for this place haven't been that great. I went with a group of friends for dimsum so I was cautious. My friends already ordered by the time I got there.
So like everyone else, I agree the decor of the restaurant is very nice. If you think of the area where the restaurant is located, it's definitely the best for a Chinese Seafood restaurant. I'm thinking there isn't any other Chinese restaurant around there that can compare with it in terms of decor. A lot of gold colors which is good for that "Chinese feel."
Most importantly the food. I thought the dimsum was good. The menu was helpful for those who are not Chinese literate. The taste of everything we had did not have any complaints. The servers were very attentive and the teapot was never empty for long and they are polite and gracious which is not always possible in a Chinese restaurant.
I would go back and judging from how busy it was during lunch hour, I'd say it's been well received in the neighborhood. -

I grew up in this neighborhood, so I've seen this location go through many owners. Shortly after they opened with renovations, I came with my family to try some of their dim sum items.
If you've eaten here before they were Golden Lake, you will remember how small and narrow the entrance/waiting area was. They've expanded this area, which makes a huge difference. The interior is quite grand, and it makes you feel like you're at a Kirin restaurant.
The dim sum menu was a double sided sheet with coloured pictures for each item. I really like the way they designed this menu because it really helps those who aren't sure of what to try. All of these elements would make you think that the food would be just as wonderful. While it wasn't the best I've had, it certainly wasn't the worst. What disappointed me was the price attached to the items. We ordered the standard items: har gao, beef balls, shrimp rolls, chicken feet, vegetarian dumplings, and a special order of their crispy garlic tofu. Our bill came out to about $40.
I visited another time for a 10 course dinner on Christmas day, and the food was much better. The pricing was on par with other restaurants in the area, but they had really good crab and nice fish.
I would give this place 3 stars, but I didn't feel I got good value for what I paid for. At the end of the day, I'd rather go elsewhere and pay less for the same dim sum food quality, and come here just for dinner. But I will admit that the interior did take my breath away for a second! -

NON DIM SUM REVIEW
we have ordered take out from here a number of times now 4 or 5.
we are boring people we always order the same darn things:
chicken fried rice
sweet and sour pork
beef chow fun (no gravy)
beef with green peppers and black bean sauce
^ all the above are awesome.
we made the mistake of ordering deep fried wuntun once, wasnt that great as the meat filling was 'weeeee tiny'...maybe thats how it is - we havent ordered that again.
delivery was 35 min - food was hot, guy was nice. -

2.5 stars.
I can't say that it was bad, and I can't say that this is A-OK. The food was OK, but some of it was a little too salty. Definitely not spectacular, that's for sure.
However, it was pricey for what it was. I'm not a big fan of the "traditional Chinese meals." They don't do anything for me and I find some of it quite bland and boring. I could care less about how "expensive" an ingredient is or how "prestigious" it is. It can still taste like crap. In this restaurant's case, there were no expensive or prestigious ingredients, but they charged for it. -

Decided to try this restaurant despite the mixed reviews. Tried the Dim Sum, which was pricey for the neighbourhood. Personally didn't find it to be too salty and I did appreciate the portion size which in my mind more that made up for the markup.
Noticed that King Crab being advertised as a special ($13.80/lb which isn't cheap by all means when restaurants in Richmond are offering them for $8.88/lb), and we decided to make a reservation for dinner the following night. Phoned to reserve a table for 11, are was told a 11 to 12lb-er was appropriate size to reserve by the person who took my call. Sure, fine, sounds great, we will take it. Dinning room was half full when we arrived and we were sited promptly (early dinner since we had 5 kids under the age of 7 in our party of 11). Took a look the menu and ordered some extra dishes to round out the feast. Order of stir fry pea shoots, order of chinese styled beef, order of crispy chicken in addition to the King Crab (made 3 ways... steamed, deep fried, rice for $22 extra). Was up sold on an order of Peking duck for $29. Sounds good, we said.
The manager returns delicately holding a King Crab on each hand. WTF? He said he had run out of 12lb-ers and suggested two 9lb-ers instead. Seriously? By this time we were getting a little ticked off. If we wanted to be up sold and treated like tourists we would have arrived in a tour bus. We told him we will just take one 9lb-er if he didn't have a 12, much to his disappointment. Can you say plan backfire? :) Food arrives. Peking duck was cut table side, but both the skin and the wrap were much too thick. Crispy chicken was flavourful but a tad dry. Veggies and beef were decent, but nothing special. Crab was prepared well, but we were up sold another dish when the waitress noticed one of our party spooning some sauce from the steamed crab dish and recommended stir fried noodles. Again, decent but nothing special.
The bill arrives as the kids were getting fidgety. I normally don't check the bill very throughly but my spidey senses were tingling this time. WTF? 9.5lbs x $22? It's normal to expect getting 0.5lb added onto the weight and in some restaurants one can expect being served less crab than what's been paid (the running joke is that 1/5 of a crab here and 1/5 there thrown into a pot will eventually reconstitute itself as a whole crab magically). But $22 instead of the advertised $13.80! The manager comes by and weakly makes up some BS excuse about $22/lb being the price of preparing it 3 ways (been eating @ Chinese restaurants all my life and never heard of that ever). I reminded him that the proper charge was 9.5x$13.80 plus $22 (a difference of $55.90). Seeing as he wasn't going to win this argument, he conceded that there was a mistake made and returned with the revised bill. Rip-off!
Needless to say, this will be the last time we would dine at this restaurant. Food was decent but not worth the markup. The dog and pony show you will have to endure makes this a definite do not recommend. If you disregard my warnings, do prepare to hold on tightly to your wallets and enjoy the ride! -

After months of being shut down, I was excited to learn that someone finally took over this place. Took a few months of renovations and opened just a few days after being back from vacation. I was eager to try it out. After obataining a take-out menu I quickly changed my mind... very EXPENSIVE!! This ain't anything fancy folks - we are talking about your classic chinese dishes. $40 for a dinner for two! Give me a break! Guess they need the money to pay back their pricey renovations! There are so many great cheap chinese restaurants just up the block ... I won't be suprised if this place lasts more then 6 months.

this place has a lot of potential but never really lives up to it. First off, decor inside is actually quite nice. The food is traditional chinese and doesn't really stand out from the others in town. At the very least, it seems expensive in comparison. Some positives are the service. They have wait staff walking around frequently. Plus the place is surrounded by TV screens so if the game is on you're in luck. The plates used were modern. The kind you'd expect to find in a downtown restaurant, it's a shame they don't do a good job cleaning them. The pop was also not very fizzy. Shame this place could be a lot better.

We ate there on Christmas eve and it was packed Good thing I have made a 5pm reservation. I liked everything about this place. Right when you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you just walked into a palace of some sort. Very few if not any Chinese restaurant can top the looks of this restarant looks like.
When we got there a gentlemen well dressed seated us, and gave us a list of numerous daily specials as well as the menu. There are so many dishes there I would like to try, it will require multiple visits. What I noticed was the dishes were very cheap compared to most places I have eatin in the Lower Mainland. And trust me I have been around to a lot of Chinese seafood cuisines. What amazed me the most was the the taste of the food we've ordered. Honestly Rice with fried scallop pieces was just awesome! The rice was cooked just right. Not too hard and not too soft. The Beef Gai Lan dish (Chinese broccoli was perfect. Wasn't too salty or bland. Just perfect. After the meal I was impressed with everything this restaurant had to offer. I would definitely be coming back.
