Review from Roanna Z.
Golden Ears is only an hour east of Vancouver and we always meant to get out to this park to do some hiking. Our first experience brought us into the park for an overnight of camping with friends.
We stayed in the Allouette campground in the Dogwood section.
This one is a very family and dog friendly camp ground. There's a playground for the kids and also a beach with an incredible view of the surrounding mountains.
Really this whole area is so lovely. I felt all my stresses just ease out of my body almost immediately after our arrival.
We cooked dinner in the fire pit on our camp site. It's best to check first for the current fire restrictions.
As I said, this particular campground is kid friendly and we all know what hours children can keep when they're out all day in that fresh clean air:
(7am: *oh god what are those screeching sounds?* )
We were of course, up late in the evening enjoying the astounding night sky. The Big Dipper jumped out at me like a neon lite and you really do forget how many stars there actually are visible when you don't have urban light pollution.
There are literally hundreds of sites in there, some are more treed while others are surrounded by the creek but they're all pretty nice. Maps of campgrounds are clearly marked.
I'm not crazy about camping on a gravel ground, I prefer grass campgrounds but this is in a temperate rain forest, so I can understand the logic. The fern and moss growth in some parts of this park have an almost "Jurassic Park" look.
I'm looking forward to returning for many camping outings at this easily accessible park.Listed in: Mountain hikes and easy…

I don't know where the name comes from, but this park is definitely green and lush, not golden. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen in a while.
I went hiking at Golden Ears yesterday with a few friends. We stopped in at the Alouette Lake beach to have our lunch and were quite impressed with the picnic tables and the washrooms (so clean!). Then we drove a little further into the park to the West Canyon trailhead. My friend had found a nice little 5k hike that was supposed to diverge at one point to another trail to a waterfall.
We found the trail, but after going along it for about 5 minutes there were two other trails leading off on either side of us -- one was marked as the Menzies trail, and the other one had a sign saying "West Canyon Trail". This was not the West Canyon Trail. This was a continuation of the Menzies trail after it hit the West Canyon Trail (which was in fact the big one we had just been walking on). The trail signs are a little confusing, but the trail itself was well marked when it started to get a little crazy further along. We also missed the waterfall trail as it was not marked at all. Sadness!
Despite the ridiculous rain out there yesterday, and the confusing trail signs, we all had an amazing time. Super relaxing and beautiful. Worth the short drive!Listed in: Get outta town

So incredibly beautiful. We came here today and the park was completely empty - must have been because of the hockey game. The view was absolutely incredible - the weather was perfect. You can see mountains all around, tons of trees, a truly picturesque place to visit, worth it!
