Went here with a dozen of my buddies, honestly was going to hit up ambassador for dim sum. The change in plan was due to one of my buddies knowing the staff at golden court.
The Total Bill was just over $150! To be fair though we were able to consume somewhere in the range of 50+ dishes!
Loved the dishes, the selection of tea was great and tapped into my asian background =). Only dish that I would pass on was the char siu (BBQ pork) over priced for the quantity given.
3.5 Stars!Listed in: Ni Hao, Sunday Dim Sum!

I HATE THIS PLACE.
The service was just god aweful. I mean, as a person of Chinese descent, I can understand that locals would treat immigrants or other visitors with skepticism, but to treat someone like me from the States with utter rudeness is unacceptable.
We understand this is a higher end restaurant that serves abalone and shark fin's soup. However, that is not what we came to the restaurant to eat. We wanted to sample some traditional Cantonese style dishes; the servers kept pushing us to spend $10.00 CAD per 1 ounce of the shark fin's soup. After hesitating for a bit, I'm like okay let me try some. Then they said the minimum needed to purchase is 4-5 ounces; apparently I have to buy the entire shark fin in order to sample the soup - which is about $50.00. I said NO.
Next, after I ordered two dishes (one fish fillet with chinese broccoli and the other a soft shell breaded crab), another waitress came over to our table and said in Chinese "let me take a look at what you ordered". After she looked at the receipt, she just sighed and walked away. I guess she figured because we didn't order any 4-5 ounces or $50 of shark fin's soup that we ordered cheap stuff instead.
25 minutes after we initially placed our order, our two dishes came out. The head waiter stared at us, and I stared back.....I'm thinking to myself, where's my rice? He figured that as well - I had to ask three times for someone to bring me some rice.
The wait staff never came back, that is until about an hour later. As they saw that I had stopped to rest from eating, they began to take away my dishes! I wasn't even done yet, and I yelled at them in ENGLISH saying, "I am not going to waste this fish fillet or crab - I'm not done with my food yet. Did you even ask me that?" They then stopped, and one waitress said "well then if that's the case, when you are done, did you want to pack a little bowl or rice to go so nothing goes to waste"?
Are you serious? They must think I am cheap or something. A few seconds later the head waiter returns, and gives me the bill. Remember, I am not even done with my food, and they want to give me the bill. How rude. I screamed again, saying do not give me a bill when I am not finished eating. They just STOOD at my table with their hands crossed watching us eat. And expected us to pay.
I DID. GAVE ZERO TIP. I will never come back to this shit-place of a restaurant ever again. I mean, the food was good, but the service was just TERRIBLE. I felt so uncomfortable eating there. And, for both dishes, I paid $50.00! Not including tax! So In the end it was about $56.00 after tax.
STAY AWAY FROM GOLDEN COURT "ABALONE" RESTAURANT!!!!!!!! -
Review from Wendy C.
One of the better dim sum places in Richmond Hill / Markham Hwy 7 corridor.
Dim Sum Style -- you order from a dim sum menu, no push carts, which is what I prefer. On weekends, additional items that are not on the menu will be brought out by the staff on trays; you pick what you like.
Quality and Selection -- all traditional items are there. Quality has been fairly consistent and good, always fresh and every dim sum dish made-to-order. Har Gaw (steamed shrimp dumplings), shrimp rice rolls, "pineapple" buns with BBQ pork filling, and siu mai (steamed pork dumplings) are all good.
Service -- nothing specially great or bad, befitting a place like this.
Keep this on the to-go list? -- YES -

Decent dim sum, nice, polite and attentive service. The restaurant is big, clean and nicely furnished. The waiting staff's uniforms are classy, but there's that tacky "golden" spinning orb at the entrance, to tarnish the impression. Don't let it dissuade you, it gets better from there onward.
The dining room is among the quietest dim-sum places I've experienced. They don't do the cart-pushing, you have to preorder, but as a result everything is fresh. The food is tasty - I have been here 3 times, ordered different dishes, and have yet to find one I didn't like. So, why only 4 stars? Well, even though I'm overall really satisfied with the food and the service, I wasn't quite blown away with the experience. So, I will reserve the fifth star for extraordinary circumstances. -

This is a large restaurant in Richmond Hill ( Leslie & Hwy 7 area ) and has been here as far as I remember... This place can easily accomodate any sized party and play host for any type of function. A very banquet like facility, large expansive dining space, round tables, chandeliers, red carpets, and a raised platform in the centre for a host table.
After perusing the menu, we came up with a whopping order of 10 dishes of various categories. Steamed, Steamed Rice, Deep Fried, Steamed Rice Roll, and Sweets.
All the items we tried were very good. They were delivered to the table in a timely manner and arrived piping hot.
Nothing to note that was out of worldly or bad. Golden Court is a solid choice for dim sum in the area. -

The dim sum is great. Authentic and tasty. They have typical dishes like hargow and shu mai, but also ones I've never tasted before like fried octopus legs and curry cuttlefish. All the dishes that came out were steaming hot.
I loved the dessert with sticky rice around sesame seed. It came out fresh and hot. I only wish we had ordered it later in the meal, because it was one of the first dishes to come out.
The service isn't great, but it's what I expect for a dim sum place. -

As sad as I am to not be living in downtown anymore, places like Golden Court make me so happy to be living in Markham. Finally some good, authentic (hah as if I would know), tasty Dim Sum!!
We were a big group of 10 and ordered nearly half the menu to try and I can honestly say there was not ONE dish that didn't like. Service was quick and they were very attentive. There was only one dish outstanding which was taking a while but we were able to cancel it with no problems. After splitting the bill, it came to just over $10 / person (yes this was for lunch too so it was supposed to be expensive) and for the amount of food we ate, there definitely was not a better deal.
The only "part" issue was that they charged us nearly $8 for tea! I think it's a flat rate for large groups and although we got around 4 or 5 tea pots worth, it still seemed a bit hefty.
**Note On Tea: At Golden Court they bring you a SUPER concentrated tea pot which is so bitter it's nearly undrinkable and then they bring you a large flask of hot water. Simply mix together and enjoy! We made the mistake of spending half our lunch trying to down the tea by itself wondering why it was so bitter.
Either way, great great place and I'll definitely be back.Listed in: Working around Hwy 7 & Leslie!

This one of the many chinese restaurants I frequent when I come to visit, about twice a year. Their dim sum on the weekend is pretty good and pretty busy, lines can get long. You can try to reserve a table but sometimes they will not let you, depends who you get on the line :-p.
All the dim sum is pretty good but one specialty dish that is "super fantastic" is the spicy seafood noodle soup. You can get it extra spicy and you'll be sweating! -

Old School restaurants like Golden Court seems to always deliver, despite the place being packed on a late Saturday afternoon, the Dim Sum was still served steaming fresh and full of good flavoring that does not leave one feeling bloated afterwards. For some reason, I still enjoyed it best in 2004 when they had a different kitchen crew. All in all, it is still a great authentic Cantonese restaurant that knows how to deliver a great experience.

Review from Joe H.
At first when I arrived I was kinda skeptical since the head chef had decided to go elsewhere and half the staff had moved on. I hadn't really been here for a couple weeks so I was in for a surprise.
Oh, also... I don't really know the translations for a lot of the stuff so bear with my Chinese translations I may get kinda creative.
First thing, there was a banquet in the restaurant so I would expect the food to be a bit better.
Whenever there's a banquet in the same restaurant, order the sucking pig. You're guaranteed a good fresh pig because they would have brought new ones in. The one we had was excellent. Crunchy thin skin with lots of meat; Perfect.
Next we had a steamed chicken. It was alright. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a little bland. Otherwise it was nice and moist.
I still believe that this place makes a really good seafood tofu hotpot. I'm a big fan of tofu and they make it pretty good here. The pot is filled with clean pieces of seafood and fresh fish (I really hate it when they use cheap veiny shrimp... HATE IT). Only thing I would change is maybe out bigger chunks of tofu in it.
Last thing I noticed they changed is their lychee jello things (I have no idea what they're called but apparently they're on the dim sum menu). Instead of little dried fruit things they used to put in (which I hated) they now have replaced it with flowers and pollen; a very plesent change. Definately try it at dim sum if you have a chance. Tastes like flowers. -

A good place for dim sum. All the dim sums are made to order and all fresh and tasty! I prefer the made to order VS the pushing carts!
I love their seafood soup dumpling, they bring out a little burner to keep the content hot!
Golden Court does get busy on weekends with a long wait for tables.
They accepts Visa and Mastercard! -
Review from Valery C.
Largish dim sum hall at the Jubilee Square strip mall, bright yellow interior and comfortable. We came on for dim sum at mid-day on a Thursday. Dim sum was served made to order: we got a paper menu and pencil, and checked off everything we wanted to eat.
The best was the shiu mai: large, succulent pork dumplings topped with a crisp shrimp. Also good were the baby bok choy with garlic, steamed chive and pork dumpling, another type of dumpling, har kow, and glistening shrimp rolls with scallions. So-so were the stuffed deep fried eggplants, which were over-fried and under-stuffed.
Overall, haven't tried enough to give a better rating, and not everything wow'ed, but it seems a pretty solid choice for dim sum. -
Review from Vivian Y.
Great dim sum - everything came out hot and quick. Decent service and prices are reasonable for the area (Small dish is $2.40 for instance). We came on boxing day and surprised there was no wait at prime time (12pm) for dim sum.
Highly recommend the deep fried octopus tentacles, siu mai, har gar, e-mein, spare ribs. Overall a solid dim sum choice for experience and beginner dim-summers...! -

One of the better dim sum places in GTA.
It used to be so packed here that you sometimes had to wait outside, but it has since slowed down a bit. Still need to wait sometimes on the weekends.
Hope you can read chinese, because on the back of the dim sum mark sheet they have some noodle and rice dishes for special. -

A good but not great dim sum place. Have visited it several times with family, friends and clients. Not the cleanest but very fast. The Yum Chat is quick. The Ha Gau and Su Mei is excellent. Fried octopus was greasy. The chicken feet was not. The scallops were decent but the portion was slender. Would recommend in a pinch but the parking can be a hassle.

I went there on Monday March 14 2011 first day of March break I thought I would take my girls for Dim Sum. We walked in took the hostess 15 mins to notice we were there. They had 2 customers in the place. We ordered our food told the waitress I want beef fried rice and 2 pork wonton soup she said ok then I ordered the dim sum 1 small 5 med 2 large the soup came I took a bite it was shrimp not pork so I stop my oldest daughter not to eat it because she is allergic to shrimp I call her over told her I ordered pork wonton not shrimp she says nobody makes pork wonton all restaurants make shrimp only and that I should of told her my daughter is allergic to shrimp so I said if I ordered pork wonton then why did you not tell me we don't have pork wonton told her to take it back she takes it and when I got the bill she charged me for the soup that my daughter did not eat she says I have to pay for it even though she did not eat it I said oh yeah you better take it off the bill or i am not paying then she adjusts the bill but I check it bill is the same dollar amount I check she charged me for 6 med dim sum when there was clearly only 5 med on my order sheet went to pay told her to fix the problem she freaks out in her language she fixes the bill I pay and told her that I will never come back again and she just walked away. Very very bad customer service you ask them something and the just repeat what you say nod there heads and say yes hire someone that can speak English and understand the language.
