We went here on the advice of fellow yelpers. I admit I was skeptical as this is the food of the homeland and I was expecting chinese-canadian fare. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!

The night we were there, there was one server, he was also busser and bartender. So the service was a bit slow. He was polite and gracious though so that made up for it.

When the food arrived, it was fresh, hot and so tasty! We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I read a bunch of great reviews on Yelp and decided to call them up to order some take-out!

We go to pick it up (after giving our credit card # over the phone, despite the guy telling us it'll total "roughly $30"), and the place is closed. Up for lease. WTF! Had we just been scammed?!

We call the number we had called the number back, and they direct us to a Fisgard St location. For a "Shanghai City" restaurant. Okay...?

Turns out Golden Chopsticks closed, but gave this other place it's phone number to poach its customers. Pretty shady...since the reason we avoided a place in Chinatown in the first place was to go somewhere less-touristy. Shanghai City is covered in neon lights and full of tourists.

Our bill came to $40, for chow mein, 2 egg rolls, wonton soup, beef&broccoli and white rice. The containers weren't 100% full either. Not fantastic value, for normal quality chinese food.

We enjoyed the meal still, the food was fine, but we still felt a little jipped and taken advantage of.

    Not too shabby.

I don't know if I'm getting too picky on Chinese restaurants. This place just didn't amaze me at all. The food was pretty decent, I ordered the ginger fried beef and white rice and it was rather tasty. Service was semi-slow considering not too many people were there and the menu was rather disorganized.

All in all, this is a decent Chinese restaurant. Not bad by any means, just nothing that blew my socks off. I'd maybe come back.

Haha what a name... golden chopsticks

I actually stopped by because all the workers on the cruise ship said they always stop here during the victoria dock to get chinese food and said we should come. So we were just walking around in victoria and weren't planning on coming because my parents are straight up chinese, and well you know we could tell by the name that it wasn't going to be that good.
But we saw our friends from the ship outside smoking and they had some food still that they couldn't finish so we joined

And much to my disbelief the food was very chinese and the price very chinese as well! What a find

5 stars for food, 1 star for service

Just around the corner from my hotel I found this small restaurant, which was highly rated by Yelpers. Having just arrived in town, I was hungry and eagerly entered.

The restaurant was not full. Finally, after waiting about 5 minutes, I managed to get the attention of a server. I placed my order - dinner for one so nothing fancy or complicated. I never saw a server again until a full 40 minutes later when a server finally reappeared with my meal. It was already cool when it arrived - obviously sitting a while. They didn't wait to see how the food was, nor did they ever come back to my table again. When I finished eating I gave up on flagging them down for my bill and walked to the cash register. They found time to take my money, although they never seemed at all curious as to how I had enjoyed my meal..

I noticed that the larger tables of 4 to 8 people had no problem getting the servers attention, their food arrived quickly and steaming. The two of us sitting solo were both ignored. The other person sitting alone actually left before his meal arrived.

The food itself was, as other reviewers have noted, extremely good. Not greasy, fresh and tasty. Not covered with sticky-sweet sauces as it is in many restaurants.

Great food. Not a fan of the service.

Ordered delivery again last night, started eating it, went on Yelp and was shocked to see a 1 star review come up for golden chopsticks. My order was delicious as always. Loved every single item.

I'm mostly writing this update to respond to that review and point out that the person who rated this place with one star doesn't seem to like authentic Chinese food as they pointed out in another review....
they like  "greasy, sweet, delicious LP buffet. While it's not masterful or, I'd imagine, terribly authentic, Chinese food, it's yummy, greasy, and fills that need for a variety of overly-sauced, overly-starchy goodness."

So to anyone looking for greasy overly-sauced overly-starchy buffet, I'm sorry, you will be disappointed, they only serve real, fresh and authentic Chinese food here that is not made way in advance and left under heat lamps drowned in so much sauce you can't actually taste what you're eating. I hope the general foodie population isn't too crushed at this news.

Nowhere else in Victoria have I found this quality of Chinese food, especially at their prices. I ordered 2 rolls, a wor wonton and 2 main dishes and it came to $39 delivered (plus tip). I've spent more for less at far inferior locations.

Yum yum yum! Every time we're in Victoria we MUST come here for dinner. The food is incredible. So fresh, so delicious.

Other reviewers mentioned that this place had "authentic" Chinese food which is technically true but I am a little scared of true homegrown Chinese food. You won't find any chicken feet here!

It's authentic in that they are using fresh ingredients and are not loading the food with MSG and overly processed ingredients but you can still find your americanized Chinese food favorites like sweet and sour pork!

I strongly suggest you try the crispy Ginger beef and the teriyaki chicken. They are both magnificent!

It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's one of the few Chinese restaurants in Victoria that serves up quality, authentic Chinese food. There's no sweet sauces slathered over the food to make it more appetizing to those not used to Chinese food here. It's the real thing.

It's not fancy, it's not glamourous but it is good.

I really expected this place to suck.

    Nope!

In fact, it's a super-unassuming paradise. One waitress ran the whole place (15 parties? 20? It was insane) at warp speed. The food RULED.

I went out on a limb and got the Pad Thai, which was exactly the way I like it -- not too much sauce, no dumb cabbage or carrots, nice and spicy. Super-hospitable, tasty, and fast. A+++WOULD BUY AGAIN.

Excellent! I had the "Dinner for One" which consists of lightly battered Almond Chicken, FRESH  Chow Mein noodles and Beef Chop Suey.
My dining partner had the Beef fried rice. It was on the o.k. side.
Also, get an egg roll... Fresh wrappings and a great sweet dipping sauce.
Even the fortune cookie was GREAT!

Although I don't usually seek out Chinese restaurants (which is why I could not give it 5 stars, even though it was one of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten at), I would definitely go back to Golden Chopsticks (I actually tried but they were closed on Sundays)!

The food was not greasy (my usual qualm with Chinese food) and the portions are generous. There were too many good dishes to choose from but here's what we ended up with: 7-jewels chow mein and cashew chicken stir fry - ask for extra veggie thrown in and its even better! Both were very flavorful and I loved the type of noodles they used for the chow mein! I can't wait until my next trip to Victoria so I can try out some of their Thai inspired dishes!

I feel being cheated by the rate on yelp about this restaurant. I don't want to be mean. But I have to say that it was the worst Chinese food I have ever had in North America.

Do not think you need to head to Victoria's Chinatown to get the best Chinese in town.  My sister and I chose this place thanks to Yelp.  Definitely a good choice for Chinese.  Not all greasy, and no MSG headaches (thank you!).  A very cozy place to sit and eat, and chat, and sip good hot tea.  Visit Chinatown, but head back over to Fort Street just off Government for delicious Chinese food.

The quality is good and the prices are reasonable... Thats about it.  The combo dinner for 4 feeds 3 people for dinner and lunch the next day. Also the staff are very friendly.

We had been on the road a while and  wanted something with a little more "spice".  Was originally looking for an Indian place but nothing sounded great, so we went to the Golden Chopsticks.  The restaurant is a pleasant room in a convenient downtown location. We started with some won ton soup and some fried won tons .  The soup was ok but the fried won tons were rather soggy.  The main courses were szechuan eggplant and Thai cashew chicken.  The portions were large and the food was generally good but nothing special. Many Chinese restaurants seem to use vegetables cut in very large pieces and I prefer mine cut smaller.  The sauces was the usual brown sauce thickened with corn starch. Service was good but rather slow.

Desperate for food after a long day at work, I perused yelp for a late-night delivery place. It was my misfortune to stumble on Golden Chopsticks. I've never eaten more mediocre, bland food in my life. Avoid this place!
