We were waiting for Libretto to open so we dropped into Goed Eten as I saw a coffee grinder from the outside.

I really like the space they have their and wish I could ride off with the bike :)

The barista working made us a fresh pot of coffee which was super nice and brought it to our table.  The coffee wasn't bad at all and I would definitely come back for another cup.  I looked around and the food people were eating looked delicious.  Part of me wishes I wasn't going to Libretto so I could try the food here!

When our coffee was done we left to pay.  I messed up my payment at the end (sorry barista!) as I thought I gave a certain amount for a good tip but messed up my count.  She was super nice about it and I was on my way to Libretto.

We had purchased a coupon from Dealicious for Goed Eten, and used it last week (Aug 2011).

The food is great here, and the service was friendly.  I had the Eggs Benedict waffle, my husband had the Eggs Benjamin waffle.  Both were excellent - the waffles being of outstanding quality (deep pockets, crispy on the outside and wonderfully flavoured).

To finish off our breakfast, we each had a pastry (he - the chocolate croissant and me - the danish with custard and fruit).  Both were incredibly good!

Their coffee is wonderful too folks.

The restaurant is a little small and the parking is street based, but we won't hesitate to go back!

We noticed also that they have a breakfast special for $7 that is a cooked breakfast including coffee.  You can't beat that.

Good Belgian waffles are hard to find!
With a name like Goed Eten, I was excited to have brunch here!

We wandered in and seated ourselves in a sunny spot at the front.
It's a cozy little spot with exposed red brick walls and a simple menu.  There were several tables with small children... kids like waffles.

The Eggs Benedict waffle ($11) looked wonderful.

The waffle itself was light and airy, crispy, and chewy and served piping hot.  The savory part of the meal was a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and a piece of peameal bacon.
I wish there were two eggs instead of one egg and the bacon was a bit skimpy.  The sauce was a bit thin.
The slaw wasn't really my thing.  Pickles and apples.

I was pleased with my waffle!  But, I was still really hungry after my breakfast.

My friend ordered the fruit waffle with syrup.  It came with heaps of whipped cream and it looked pretty delicious.  If I was into sweet breakfast, I'd order that.

This is a great spot for a light waffle breakfast!  But don't come here if you're really hungry.

This place is pretty cute space with a large mural of houses in the back.
We came here for lunch and it wasn't very busy. Maybe we missed the rush?  There was only one server working at the time.  Service was okay but felt a tad abrupt at times.

When reviewing the menu we were advised that they ran out of fries.  When my sister asked about the chicken burger we were told that they were out of chicken & fish burgers.
...really? Okay...so when asked what's recommended, our server suggested to go with the breakfast-related items.  So breakfast items it was.

    We ordered:
Iced Latte - came with foamed milk on top.  Tasted very watered down from the start so I didn't like it.  Not sure how many shots are in it as a standard but maybe an extra one would have done the trick.  I was disappointed with this one.

Toast Champignon ($9) - it's a puff pastry basket with bacon, mushrooms, poached egg on top with a side of apple slaw.  It all worked and was delicious. You really can't go wrong with bacon.

Breakfast Crepe ($8) - a crepe stuffed with eggs potatoes, 3 cheeses & peameal bacon.  My sister thought this dish was okay.  The peameal bacon was overly salty for her so she ended up picking some of it out.  I tried it and thought it was too salty as well. Oh well,  I guess you can go wrong when it's peameal bacon.

So the food itself was good but the overall experience was just okay.

Amazing brunch. Great service. Funky look. Authentically Flemish vibe. Incredible waffles - very light accompanied by fruit that tasted like fruit! Frites with croquette and bolognese awesome twist on poutine a la Leuven.

Things I have purchased from Goed Eten: lattes, fish sandwich, croissants, and waffles. All have been delicious, especially the flaky, buttery croissants, and the light and fluffy waffles.

The staff has always been really friendly when I've stopped in, mostly on weekend mornings. The place has been open for a year or so now, and I think the atmosphere has gotten warmer and more comfortable in that time. Prices are reasonable too.

I think it is misleading when the sandwiches are Not made of waffle. It is actually sandwich bread that is pressed with waffle iron. I tried the actual dessert waffle, the waffle is fluffy inside and crispy outside. It is delicious.

The fries are disappointing. It is soggy and very small portion for a 8 dollar poutine.

The place is small, don't come here with a huge group of ppl.

    Review from the summer.

They had just recently opened in this new spot. I was debating between going to Libretto or this. Should have just gone for Libretto.

I had a waffle pressed sandwich (challah, peameal bacon, 3 cheese, and egg) which was as bland as printer paper. Tasted and felt like something I could whip up at home very easily but with much less flavour.

I wanted to try one of their liege waffles so I got one of those as well (didn't notice they were made and wrapped up near in the front of the counter already, which should have been a warning sign). Tasted mainly of sugar, no warmth to it. Just a cold, soulless shadow of a waffle.

If I'm ever in the neighbourhood, I might be willing to give them a chance again on a freshly made Brussels waffle but just... maybe.

Having lived in Belgium for nearly three years, I assure you this is not in the least an accurate representation of the food. There is no semblance, actually.

The only common ground here is the surly wait staff. Belgium, being a largely French culture, does not pride itself in its service. As tipping is not the norm in many European countries, Belgians to not see the need to go beyond their call of duty in this regard. However, what's the Canadian excuse here?

First off, the 'restaurant' itself is simply disgusting. It's one thing to be a local hole-in-the-wall weathered down by years of service and steeped in tradition, or to even have a hipster hole-in-the-wall facade, but it's completely another to open an actual hole-in-the-wall. I don't want to throw this word carelessly but it struck me as an unhygienic sort of place.

Now onto the food: although Brussels-style waffles are not as sweet as the street variety, Good Eten's were dry and flavourless, accompanied by sad-looking toppings; the Bicki burger (sic) was served on a soggy ciabatta bun; and the cheese croquettes contained an unidentifiable mixture involving blue cheese.

The only nod to reality were the frites, which although greasy, tasted somewhat authentic.

    BIG disappointment.

I find this place hit or miss. The food is great, the service sucks. The fries are worth a trip alone. My favourite are the Benny's. The atmosphere is relaxed and low key. I find that it does take a while to get your food, so don't go if you are in a hurry. Homemade everything! Yummy.

The best Belgian waffles I've had! The rest of the menu is rather unassuming and the flavors are very gentle...maybe I'm just not a fan of Belgian cuisine. The people are friendly and the service impeccable. It is a perfect place for breakfast and brunch, I've yet to eat there for any other occasion. Everything is made from scratch, with every ingredient playfully coming together to make every bite different.

A quaint place, not too big, not too small. My server was nice and she happily greeted everybody who stepped into the door. When I was presented with the menu, I didn't see a lot of "Belgian" dishes, except for the "fries with mayo" and duh... waffles. Other than those two, they serve burgers, breakfast eggs, and grilled sandwiches.

So I went for the vegetarian grilled cheese sandwich, which I must admit, was very delicious! I'm a sucker for anything with black olives and roasted red peppers :p My boyfriend's sandwich, however, was not as tasty. He got the peameal bacon with egg sandwich and it was quite salty.

For dessert, we split Belgian waffles with ice cream, choco flakes, and chantilly. The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft (fluffy?) on the inside, just how I like my waffles to be made. But was it out of this world? Naahh... it's just ok.

Big Disappointment! We had high hopes for this place, but sadly will not be returning. I feel that 2 stars is generous after our experience.

The service was abhorrent- we apparently greatly inconvenienced the server by taking 3 minutes to look over the menu instead of ordering immediately. She was SO pushy and unprofessional, which was especially odd since there was nobody else waiting.

All 4 of us (including 2 Belgians) agreed that the food was equally as poor as the server's attitude. The Belgian waffles were not in keeping with the Belgian style (i.e they were not sweet or crispy) and the Bicky burger, which I'm told is a big deal in Belgium, was a big, soggy mess on a ciabatta bun.  The coffee was so terrible that I left it on the table after taking one sip. I'm not picky when it comes to coffee, but even I couldn't stomach it.  I didn't mind the cheese croquettes, but the Belgians found them practically inedible. The only saving grace was the frites, which I quite liked, though they were a bit greasier than the ones you'd find in Belgium.

Conclusion: I'll take the frites, but leave everything else (including the attitude!)

Belgians (including myself) tend to be very chauvinistic, yet critical, about their food. When it comes to Belgian late night/after bar treats, double-fried horse and beef fat fries and the soon-to-be world famous 'bicky burger' are classics not to be missed. When it comes to curing severe beer-related hangovers in the morning, a Belgian waffle will always do the job.

Unfortunately, none of these Belgian culinary icons are served as they should be at Goed Eten. Dear over-served bar-hopping Ossington hipsters: don't be delusional and fulfill your hunger somewhere else. My advice to Goed Eten's owners: improve, close down or change the misleading name.

One star, because zero is not an option. If you think I'm cruel here, I didn't even bring up the terrible service mentioned by others.

I was strolling down Ossington and saw a "Home made Gingerbread Ice cream" sign in the window... honestly they had me a homemade! The ice cream was good and rich although I found the flavour a bit overpowering.

Apparently this place is brand new and is a coffee house meets Belgian eatery. Everything they sell in made in-house and their waffles smell amazing!

They also have free WiFi, you just have to ask the barrista for the password.

    What a load of bollox!!!
Nothing like authentic Belgian waffles in Belgium. This place needs to close down shop because it's such a disgrace !  Belgium waffles are crispy and slightly sweet, they can't even get that right.
People should really stop coming here and go elsewhere. Plus the interior is bloody awful....perhaps they should start a minicab service here instead coz it looks like one.

OK well looks like I'm going against the grain here in positively reviewing this establishment. Mind you I haven't tasted their full menu only breakfast. I also haven't sampled the waffles and so can not add any more insight as to what has seemed to catch the ire of a few Yelpers.

I had the Eggs Benny and an Americano. Food arrived promptly which consisted of two eggs Benny-style and a small side of appleslaw salad. It was good, good enough that I easily cleaned my plate within minutes. Eggs were poached perfectly, the hollandaise sauce was delicious and fresh and it all laid nicely upon their own baked version of an English muffin which was quite complementary. The appleslaw salad was also quite tasty though minuscule. For quality and taste of the food I was quite happy with what I got. However, at $9.00 I did feel there should have been a bit more. [Please read update bottom of page] I think there should have been potatoes included as commonly found in the Eggs Benny you get at any other establishment. I mean I can dig a restaurant not wanting to serve Eggs Benny with the sides everyone else serves them with, y'know...Out of a sense of being original. But the side appleslaw was so small it was barely a thought on the plate. So that's $9.00 for essentially two straight up Eggs Benny. For me that's pricey. Aside from the food the Americano I ordered tasted pretty good. Quite strong without being bitter.

Service was good and friendly so absolutely no issues there. As for decor the place was comfortable enough. For the most part I was happy with the food and my coffee. I enjoyed what I ate and drank. I will return to try out their other menu items.

    *Update*
I have just been informed that Goed Eten has upon recommendation decided to add fries to their Eggs Benny, which is great to hear and should make the $9.00 price tag more acceptable.

I wandered in here after a great meal, looking for a bang-on, life changing waffle. Instead I got surly service and a terrible cardboard-esque waffle. They were out of chocolate sauce, so we had some lacklustre shaved chocolate instead on our chantilly cream. Three people shared one waffle and didn't finish it, which is not a testament to its size, but an indication of how much we enjoyed it. If you want a delicious waffle, go to waffle bar at the Brick Works Farmers Market.

This is the place for waffle perfection. I have been only twice as it is quite the hike from Scarborough - but so worth it when a craving for superb waffles - in many manifestations - needs to be addressed. Their fries and mayo were also good but for brunch either savoury or sweet waffles do the job. Good eating indeed.
