We got a room here after the Coronado Beach Resort (or Hotel?) next door double-booked our room. I think it actually worked out better for us because this place was really fantastic. The room was spacious and well decorated (conservative). And it smelled REALLY good. I wish I could find out what kind of cleaning products they use because I'd like my house to smell like that.

Great experience. A beautifully recently remodeled hotel right in Coronado. Great decor and design. Parking was a cinch and the room was extremely spacious. It is $10 a day but I've seen higher rates at other hotels in the area.
Very quiet, you can hear guests in the parking lot because of the sliding doors and balconies, but it wasn't an issue.
Our weekend stay was not interrupted by any jets except twice on Friday but it was during the day and was not obnoxious.
Great location friendly staff. Nice TV, bathroom was great for a hotel and beds are extremely comfortable.
The WiFi is the only downside, it doesn't work with my iPad or iPhone at all, I couldn't access any internet apps on it. Just an FYI if you're looking for a movie on iTunes or Netflix.
The continental breakfast was a pretty good spread, they refill it throughout the morning too. Warm pastries, toast, fruit, yogurts, cereal, juice, coffee & tea. Plus there is 24/7 coffee and tea available to take up to the room at all times. Pretty awesome.
Great hotel with great rates. -

I loved this place, They treated me well and attended to my request.
the complimentary breakfast was soo good but the waffle maker was slow and took 10 minutes to cook.
The only bad thing i have to say is that during the last day there i found a bug in the bed and i freaked out and told the manager. They gave back some credit with which i was content.
It's a nice place, clean, secure, across the street from the beach. Great area to take a walk and also you can take a stroll to the hotel across the street and see the shops there. -

My wonderful husband suprised me with a few days here. We needed some well deserved time away and the Glorietta Bay Inn was the best!!!! We stayed in the Penthouse and I must say it was FANTASTIC!!!! The room is wonderfully decorated, a very large patio to see the bay and ocean. The bedding was the best, soooo comfy. Large picture window to see the bay and stay indoors if you like. The staff is very attentive and not pushy. Your very own private elevator too!!! Breakfast each morning delivered when you want it, beds turned down with chocolates each evening and some milk in an ice bucket with cookies too. Lemonade with gingersnap cookies in the afternoon. Close to everything. Park your car and walk everywhere. This place was just amasing and rich with history. I can't wait to return, and I will. Kinda pricey but well worth it.

This hotel is absolutely fantastic! It's a mansion that has been converted - very charming! Highly recommend!

They are pricey, but what hotel isn't in Coronado. We stayed in the Garden Suite for two nights for our wedding. The suite had its own patio with a fountain and a small kitchenette. You can't beat the architecture for pictures, the laid back feel, or the breakfast and snacks in the lobby. It is centrally located and a much better bang for the buck than the del.

I have only stayed here once but thoroughly enjoyed it! Would love to come back again someday. The rooms were pleasant, comfortable, and clean. Really loved having the complimentary breakfast sitting by the pool. The staff were all helpful and friendly.

Gloretta Bay Inn is a beautiful historic hotel situated perfectly on Coronado. The rooms are perfect - not fancy, mind you, but all you need. Easy to get to, all the restaurants and shops walking distance away. The Hotel Del across the street. The beach steps away. Beautiful views of the bay - the sunrise was stunning! Can't say enough wonderful things about this place. I will always stay here. The breakfast/brunch in the morning is delightful as well -- very good selection of good foods and drinks, and you sit on the beautiful veranda. It doesn't get any better.

June 2011, stayed three nights at Glorietta Bay Inn, attending a conference across the street at the Hotel Del Coronado. Picked this place because--
Hotel Del: higher rate, $25 parking, fee for WiFi, breakfast not included, resort fee.
Glorietta Bay Inn: $10 parking, free WiFi, continental breakfast, zero resort fee.
The structure of the Inn feels dated and can use a renovation. Shower stall has mildew and stains. A bay-view room is only on the second floor looking pass the roof of another building (foreground) and seeing a glimpse of the marina and bay. See picture.
The noise of the AC is a problem. The unit is shared between my room and an adjacent room. So you hear the noise even when you turn it off at the thermostat. It is much louder than a humming background and is directly into the room.
Breakfast was very good for "continental." At least 10 different pastries in addition to bagels and toasts. Abundant fresh fruits. Boiled eggs. Juices and many hot beverages.
Staff is friendly and very willing to help, but for $200+ a night, GBI delivers short of what you would expect. -

My boyfriend and I are young and broke like everyone else our age, but we LOVE to travel. We both had a free weekend and decided to get out of town for a quick trip. Having never been to San Diego we wanted to go see the zoo. There are lots of hotels to choose from, so we were between the Dana on Mission Bay and the Glorietta Bay Inn. We chose Glorietta because of it's history and great location right across from The Hotel Del.
We never tried the pool out, nor did we eat the continental breakfast, so I can not speak to those, but the staff is EXCEPTIONALLY friendly, parking (though its $10 a day) is easy, and the rooms are clean. The TV is great and the beds were REALLY comfortable.
The decor is a little dated, but for a quick weekend, and for $209 a night, It was DEFINITELY the best deal. PERFECT location. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to visit the Hotel Del, but not looking to pay Hotel Del Prices. -

First things first: You will want a room in the Mansion part of the Inn.
We stayed in the Lurline room and it was very, very roomy. Guests in the Mansion rooms can have their excellent complimentary breakfast delivered to their rooms. Quite nice on days when you want to just surf the 'net while eating your breakfast and planning the day ahead.
The Inn is located very close to an amazing beach and just across from the Del Coronado hotel, within walking distance of many good restaurants, such as Chez Loma (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The Old Town Trolley tour stop, as well as Lamb's Player Theater, are just a few blocks away, cutting down on the bother of having to drive everywhere.
Want to find out more about the local history? Take the excellent walking tour that meets in the Music Room (check with the front desk for details)
As others have already mentioned, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall, a wonderful place to spend a few days of down time.
Oh, did I mention that we got a nightly turn-down service which included cookies and chocolates? :~) -

Found this place thanks to yelp, so, thanks yelp!
In Coronado for a conference (held at the Del), but wanted to stay somewhere where i wouldn't run into too many lanyard-ed fellow attendees. And I guess save my company a few bucks on lodging, out of the goodness of my heart.
The reception area is beautiful, great outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine, and old-fashioned parlor area where you can read the morning paper, listen to the player piano, and eat the continental breakfast.
I was a single occupant, and staying on the cheap (kinda), so I didnt get a particularly fancy room. the bathroom wasnt even as nice as youd find in a westin or marriott. the bed was super comfy, tho, and i had a teeny-weeny balcony space (with a view of the parking lot...). Speaking of views, i'm not sure if even the deluxe rooms have much. The hotel is next to a marina, so i'm sure some have a view of boats, but it's not bayside. -

Stayed here with the bride-to-be, the night before the big day. The mansion itself is gorgeous. I wish I got a chance to look around the mansion more!
We stayed in a Deluxe Queen Room w/ 1 Queen Bed and Patio/Balcony, and everything was great. I loved the small balcony with chairs overlooking the Bay. So beautiful!
There is complimentary breakfast downstairs, which includes fruit, yogurt, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, juice, and cookies! We ate our breakfast outside on the patio, because the weather was sunny and perfect. Seriously a perfect start to my cousin's wedding day!
- 24 hour free wi-fi
- 24 hour coffee and tea -

I'm pretty sure Lucas O. said it all, but I just have to gush about the Glorietta Bay Inn. The rooms weren't glamorous by any means, but I found them to be nicer and more modern than those in the Hotel Del.
One of the Major perks of the Glorietta Bay Inn is that you're just across the street from the Del (which is known for its killer location), and you're paying a fraction of the price. The rooms have cute little patios furnished with chairs and tables, and the showers are spacious and, ahem, well-equipped.
I was staying there for a wedding, and I'm pretty sure the wedding guests rented out the whole hotel, more or less. Despite this, the staff was exceedingly accommodating and friendly - when I called the front desk to see if the suspiciously down-like pillows would trigger my allergies, they sent someone up in less than five minutes to check. The breakfast service was excellent, though they could use another toaster.
In conclusion: if you're looking for a place to stay on Coronado Island, this is probably the most bang for your buck. Stay here, and drink the mojitos at the Hotel Del to get your required dose of glamour. -

My family has made an annual pilgrimage to vacation in Coronado for the weekend for the past several years now. We have stayed at the Glorietta Bay Inn every time, and each time it has been a fantastic experience. Directly across the street from the famous Hotel Del Coronado, the Glorietta Bay Inn is actually affordable (unlike the Del) and has just as much history (if not more? it used to be the home of Mr. Spreckels!) as the Del itself. Plus, the Del is within easy walking distance, so you can still pop over there to enjoy their shopping and restaurants and get beach access without having to pay the $25 daily "resort fee" to stay there. :)
We've never stayed in any of the famous/special mansion rooms, but the more newly-added hotel rooms have been great for us so far. Each room has its own fridge and microwave, and even when we added a roll-away bed into a room to squeeze 5 of us into it once, it didn't feel crowded -- we still had plenty of space for all of us.
Wireless internet is free -- just ask for the password at the front desk.
There is a free continental breakfast every day as well, which consists of fresh fruit, cereal, bagels/toast (and a toaster oven thingy), yogurt, pastries, juice, tea, coffee, etc. It's basic but delicious, and nicely presented. Then you can eat your breakfast at tables set up in the library/drawing room or out on the patio overlooking the bay. It's quite a pleasant atmosphere.
There are also free cookies and lemonade set out in the afternoons (as well as free tea and coffee throughout the day).
The Glorietta Bay Inn is right downtown, so you're within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, 2 playhouses, the beach, the Del, the strand (should you want to go for a nice bike ride), a golf course, etc. It's a great location and you definitely get your money's worth here, especially compared to the Del right across the street. :)
We've always had wonderfully friendly service from the front desk as well, who have been kind enough to bring us roll-away beds, ask about our stay, and let us have late check-out on the day of our departure. I highly recommend staying here! -

We will not stay anywhere else in Coronado - unless we splurge on the Del! My husband and I planned last minute trip to the Island, and although their website said not rooms were available we called and were able to get a great rate for the weekend. Score!
Right across the street from the Del, and even closer to the delicious Miguel's, you can't beat the location for the price! The walk to the beach takes 5 minutes and you'll pay half as much! The amenities make Glorietta Bay Inn even more of a deal, including free wi-fi, affordable parking, beach towels, and the amazing breakfast! Plus, the staff are super friendly and welcoming.
Our room was small and simple, but clean and well laid out. The only complaint would be some of the noise we experience from being on the corner (440) by the parking lot, but it didn't effect the quality of our stay.
Definitely recommend staying here!! -

I like the Glorietta Bay Inn! The staff are friendly and accommodating and the grounds are cozy and pretty. Great location.
To start off with full disclosure, the walls are PAPER thin... this is not good when you have neighboring guests with a screaming baby. I prefer not to be woken up throughout the night by blood-curdling screams while on vacation. If they decide to do any renovations on the place, I hope sound-proofing the walls comes to mind. Screaming baby aside, normal-volume conversations can be heard quite well.
I also didn't like that my room wasn't cleaned during my stay. However, Claudia (Asst GM) gave me my 2-day parking for free ($20 value) and a $50 voucher for a future stay. When I requested to have it applied to the CURRENT stay, she gladly did so *and* let me keep the voucher for future use. That is what I call top-notch customer service and leads me to be confident that this was an exception and certainly not the rule.
Every morning there is an extensive continental breakfast and every afternoon starting at 3pm there are fresh-baked cookies with lemonade. This, combined with the great customer service I received, are the "little things" that make a huge difference!
I highly recommend Glorietta Bay Inn. -

The Glorietta Bay Inn is awesome. It's very beautiful and it's across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. I thought about booking a room at the Del, but thought better because it's way too expensive. I wanted to visit Coronado and the historical Hotel DEL, but I was on a budget. The next best thing was the Glorietta Bay Inn.
The pluses:
1. the rooms were very nice.
2. it's across the street from the HOTEL DEL
3. they offer a walking tour of historical Coronado in the ball room of the hotel. that's a must!
4. the hotel is beautiful and you can feel the history because it has an old southern charm about it.
5. Downtown San Diego and the Gas Lamp district is 10 to 15 minutes away over the bridge.
I don't have anything bad to say about this place. I will go back whenever I get a chance to visit Coronado or San Diego again. Coronado is one of the most beautiful places in California. -

We have been coming here for a few years. Nicest staff, both in the lobby & housekeeping. 3 parking lot areas, the closest to Orange fills up first. Free wifi with password. Usually quiet, even wkends. Never stayed at the "mansion". We stay at the "bay view". Gotta see the water when we can. Room has fridge, small table, 1 chair. Balcony is nice, 2 chairs & table. Rooms are clean. We will always stay here on Coronado.

We had our baby with us for the weekend so we got a suite. The suite was comfy it was like walking into your own condo across from the beach, they provided amenities for our baby which was great (never travel with a baby before so I was grateful).
The hotel is right across from the Coronado and is centrally located to all the action.
This place is worth the money and you get what you paid for. -

Thank you Glorietta Bay Inn for making our Coronado vacation a pleasant one!!!
The best thing about this hotel is the staff and their service. Each of the personnel was friendly and really cared about our needs.
The continental breakfast is quite good.
The swimming pool is a bit small, but it our toddler didn't seem to mind.
This place is right across the street from the Hotel del and is easily walkable to the beach (about a 5 minute walk). -

The place is great! Location is awesome; across the street from the Hotel Del Mar, within walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops in Coronado, within reasonable driving distance to almost anywhere in San Diego. And, if you want to head to downtown SD but don't want to drive, the MTS is steps from the hotel, and drops you off two blocks from Petco Park and the Gas Lamp District.
My husband and I took advantage of the well-stocked continental breakfast. The room was nice and clean, the bed super comfy. The only reason we give it a four is due to the thin walls, we had to keep our A/C fan running at all times to help block the sounds from outside and next door.
Overall, a great place, and great price! We'll be back. -
Review from Margi T.
The service here is top! And the rooms are relative inexpensive/moderately priced (half the price or more compared to the Del). It's right across the street from the Hotel del Coronado (there's two sidewalks/lights to cross at, by the way) and an easy stroll to the cute boutiques and restaurants on Orange Ave. The mansion itself is gorgeous.
Our room was in the outer building and was nice enough. The hotel had updated bits and pieces of the room, but some parts were a little dumpy (windows, window treatment, some lights didn't work, dated vanity, outdated furniture). The bed linens and shower (the two most important parts of a room) were great. The AC was extremely noisy. Our second night at the hotel, we had some super rowdy neighbors in the end unit come in ~2 a.m. and turn on the TV really loud. OMG. I just wanted to bang my head against the wall to cover up the noise. If they didn't sound so drunk and mean, I would have gone over and knocked on their door. I turned on the AC and that helped drown the noise a bit. I froze myself back to sleep for a few hours till we left for the airport ~5 a.m. I should have called the front desk and let them handle the situation, but waking up irritated at the wee hours of the morning, I wasn't thinking straight.
On the brighter side, a continental breakfast is included with your room rate and it's actually pretty decent. They go all out on their breakfast spread and you can enjoy it on the nice patio overlooking the world's smallest pool (since we were in a May Gray weather funk, I didn't really care, but be warned the pool is very small). I think they only charged us $10/day for parking (the lots are tight). Internet access was included, but wasn't easy or reliable.
What Glorietta Bay Inn lacks in luxurious accommodations, they certainly make up for in service. We're planning on staying here again in September for another wedding at the Del. -

My chick bad, my chick hood
My chick do stuff that ur chick wish she could.
Haha my babe got a great deal for a bayside view room plus a free bottle of wine for our anniversary, and when we got there she asked for an upgrade on our room if there were any other rooms available for the night. They said we were able to upgrade to the crown or library room for no charge. We took the library, which was part of their "mansion" building".
The room was very, very spacey and roomy. It had a huge bed with a huge flat screen tv. Very classic old American type of setting. Bathroom was nice, able to take a bath in there.
The pool/jacuzzi they have here is very small, but eh, the beach is literally across the street.
The staff here is super nice and friendly. What I love is that even though the place has an overall classy feel to it, all the workers are very unpretentious and down to earth. They were very helpful in allowing us to see each available room for us to decide on which room we wanted; they even gave us good tips on what restaurants/area to go to.
Great stay for best value in Coronado. Highly recommended! -

My husband and I are both originally from the East Coast so we had a LOT of out of town guest coming to San Diego for our wedding. Our group took up over half the hotel and the staff could not have been more courteous or responsive with our huge families. We had originally wanted to stay at the Del for our wedding night but they were not friendly and not willing to offer any room discount for our large group. We all stayed at the Glorietta Bay Inn and it was such a charming location -- I liked it much better than the Del. The location is great, the rooms are spacious and very reasonably priced and it was great for the families to gather together during their complimentary continental breakfasts and get to know each other.
Our families are already planning to come back! -

We stayed in the mansion in "Lillie's Room." The mansion rooms have amazing charm and perks such as turn down service with cookies and milk and the continental breakfast brought to your room in the morning. The room had two HDTVs and the staff was friendly and courteous. We'll definitely be back.

You are a block away from the Hotel Del Coronado and the beach. The staff are super friendly. The rooms are quite nice. You get a breakfast included in your room rate. The pool and spa are handy for relaxing after a long day of enjoying Coronado. I stay here as often as I can. Keep an eye on their web site as they offer some really good specials. Make sure you walk over to Miguel's for Mexican food... the white sauce is to die for.

Beautiful hotel - great service - clean - good food. I stayed here for my wedding and always reccomend this hotel to family when they visit over any other one in Coronado - even the Del. The rooms are extremely clean and fresh and roomy. Great complimentary breakfast each morning. I have stayed at the Del across the street and the rooms are tiny for the price. I actually had to turn sideways and take baby steps as i walked to the bathroom in the room (I am 110 pounds - rediculous). Anyways, beautiful, relaxing, and happy stay.

Rooms in "The Mansion" are quite elegant and well furnished, better than standard rooms across the street at the Del. Service was excellent, they even invited us to take a key and see a room before deciding. Rooms not in the mansion, however, look more like a motel, not cheap but definitely not like a boutique hotel. HDTV, DVDs available at the desk, decent free breakfast, I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Coronado.

We normally stay at the Del but decided to try the Glorietta Bay Inn. I'm sure the older mansion rooms are worth the price in character, but the room we got was in the newer wing and looked like cheap apartment construction from the 70's. Think cheap aluminum windows, low ceiling, ripped wallpaper, thin walls, total lack of design, decor, charm or character. The AC was loud as noted in another review and the walls are thin. The bedding is on par with a Fairfield Marriott maybe. Even though it is just across the street from the beach, it's still a bit of a schlep. Call me a snob, but I'll pay more and stay at the Del.

We stayed at Glorietta Bay Inn our wedding weekend and reserved a block of rooms for our family and friends coming to our wedding. The location was superb. The reservation staff (Raj) was very helpful prior to the weekend. We and our guests received a pleasant surprise the week before....a huge discount. They gave us the most current hotel special which saved everyone 30% a night. My husband and I stayed in the library suite in the mansion which was very comfortable and calming. Breakfast in the morning on the patio and in the library was sufficient. Our family and friends enjoyed coffee, fruit, and bagels together before heading to the heated pool, the nearby beach, or adventures in San Diego. The only concern was, our suite was not cleaned before 1:00pm on the day of our wedding. My husband had requested at 12:30 to please have the room cleaned since the bridal party would be back in 30 minutes to get ready for the wedding. The photographer was there and the room was unmade. At 1:00 the room was still not cleaned and myself (the bride) and my sister quickly made the bed, moved breakfast tray into the hall, and straightened up the room so that our "getting ready" pictures did not look sloppy. Also, the day after the wedding housecleaning knocked on some of our guests doors at 8:30 am to clean the room. They were still sleeping. Check out is at 11:00. Overall, we were very happy staying at Glorietta Bay Inn our wedding weekend and our family and friends were very impressed. We would recommend management reviewing their cleaning schedule.
