As I write this review I'm channeling my inner cookie monster and  munching happily on a large and very tasty ginger cookie purchased from Gleneagle during my first visit there this morning.  I may have also gobbled down a chocolate dipped oatcake, which was quite good as well.  Light, soft, almost buttery texture.  I'm not normally the biggest fan of oatcakes, I tend to find them dry and somewhat tasteless, with a dense, carboard-like texture, but this one was a welcome change from what I've experienced in the past.

I also bought a loaf of their cheese bread, and all I can say is OHMYGODSOGOODNOMNOMNOM!!

The service was very friendly and courteous, and for a small shop Gleneagle has quite a bit a variety, including several different kinds of COOKIES, pastries (including some delicious looking turnovers.  I bought a blueberry one for Mike and he loved it), cheesecakes, brownies and squares, (nanaimo, turtle, etc.  Honestly I was kind of like a kid in a candy store, and I know they had a lot of different kinds, but can't remember most of them), cakes for special occasions, and breads and rolls.  They even had homemade granola bars. Oh, and also cookies.  Wait, did I mention cookies?

I'm excited to find such a great local bakery in my neck of the woods, and will definitely be returning.  I can't wait to try one of their cakes the next time a birthday or other cake-appropriate occasion comes up.  As an added bonus, it's not far from gym I use, which should help assuage some of the cookie-binging-associated guilt I see in my future...

Every once in a while, I drop in and pick out a single treat for myself.   I like their meringue cookies, eclairs, florentines, I think I am a cookie fan of theirs.  The quality is very good.

Sadly, there are few options for coffee in this part of Clayton Park. You can hit up Tim Horton's for a cup of whatever it is they pass off as coffee. You can go to McDonald's and hope no one you know sees you. Or you can trek up Lacewood Drive to the closest Starbucks.

I work near the Gleneagle Bakery, and I couldn't have been happier to learn that they brew fresh, delicious coffee every morning. And once I started making daily visits, I got sucked into other products as well. Delicious fresh bread and rolls, beautiful cakes and pastries that are worth doing an extra half hour at the gym.

To boot, the service is wonderful. The prices may be a little higher here than at chain grocery stores, but it's worth it.

This outlet of the Gleneagle Bakery is tucked into one of the arms of the Sobeys plaza on Lacewood Drive.

Although small, inside there are goodies of every kind and variety to meet your needs.  For breads, on the day I visited there was white, brown, multigrain and cheese.  Four display cases were filled with pastries and squares sold by the each, and a few cakes, pies and cheesecakes were on display as well.

I found their prices reasonable;  I paid $7 for a large loaf of multigrain and two pastries.  The bread was perfectly fresh and soft, perfect to go with the mussels I'd picked up earlier.

I'd definitely hit up the Gleneagle bakery again before stopping into a chain store for the perfect loaf of bread.

Gleneagle Bakery has been around for about 15 years. This location is not the main one where the bread is made, although they make some pastries here.

I bought a chocolate macaroon. Hmm, I would like to say I loved it, but, I can't. It was ok. The other thing was all the bread was on the shelf and no pricing. I am not a big fan of having to ask for prices or find out at the register. I did ask as was given prices of about $3.00 for a loaf of bread. When you are buying from a bakery like this, is the norm.

The pastries looked great, some of the cheese cakes as well.
