Can I give 6 stars please??  Background: I am a pizza-obsessed New York transplant living in SF.  I have been to over 100 pizza places in New York, and used to eat pizza every day.  I consider myself an aficionado.  When I first moved here, I tried Extreme Pizza and Pizza Orgasmica, and couldn't believe how lame pizza was in San Francisco.  A friend of mine then brought me to Escape From New York and later, Giorgio's.  Escape was about as good as an average-mediocre New York slice - an improvement!  But Giorgio's - ahh Giorgio's - it was better than almost every slice of pizza I ever had in New York.

Giorgio's is my 3rd favorite pizza on the planet.  (Yes, I've been to Italy.)  The sauce is sweet and yummy, the cheese salty and delicious, and the crust thin.  I have brought friends here who have different palettes than me and they haven't felt exactly the same, but nobody has said anything but positive things overall.

The atmosphere is fun and family-like, the kind of place you bring the kids after a soccer game.  Red and white checkered table cloths and such.

Go here and I can pretty much guarantee you will love it.  It changed San Francisco pizza for me.

The place is CRAWLING with children. LIterally.

    The pizza was just OK.

Someone on here raved about the antipasto salad, so I tried it. It was about as rave-worthy as a can of tuna.

    I don't get it.

We had a nice family dinner at Giorgios two weekends ago. I liked the decorations, reminded me of Sorrento. We ordered:
Pesto garlic bread: 3/5 I could probably make this at home, not as flavorful as it looks.
Hawaiian pizza: 5/5 deliciously spicy! Great flavor, good texture. Yum!
Combo pizza: 3/5 just A OK.

Giorgio's Pizzeria is a decent pizzeria.  The place is cute but really dark.  I would go here again if I was in the area and craving pizza, but I wouldn't make this a destination.  I would much rather go to Pasquale's in Inner Sunset for sit down pizza.

Their pizza is average; it's not bad, but it's lackluster.  My party and I got the chicken pesto and the Giorgio's special.  The chicken pesto was very garlic-y and tasty.  Giorgio's special was comprised of salami, mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni.

I did however like the Chicken, Sun Dried Tomato, Mushroom & basil Fusilli a lot!  We also got the spicy sausage penne which was not bad.  I would choose Giorgio's over Pasquale's in the pasta category.

I have been going to this place for years now.  It was a go to place for lunch when I worked in the area.  They have awesome lunch specials and who can resist their bread with a little marinara sauce. YUM!  I do miss the sandwich lunch specials, but tis life... just have to order everything separately.

It is a great place to go with a small to medium sized group.  The pizza is tasty... good sauce (I am all about pizza sauces!)  One of my favorites, besides pizza, is the Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich. Finger licking good!

Staff is awesome!  Parking is surprisingly ok. If you haven't been... I say go check them out.

This place somehow takes me back to my childhood days... oh... the Richmond District... home. :)

I really love their pizza. I have yet to try their calzones but I don't think their pasta is that great. I tried their beef ravioli, their tomato sauce is pretty good, but the ravioli could be better.

Pizza is thin and crunchy, with the right amount of sauce and toppings. I like how this is a lighter version of pizza compared to seniores.

They have lunch specials, I had the mushroom slice with soup and root beer. I think that was like $6. The slide was huge! almost the size of costco pizza.

Service is average. It's a bit dark inside, so try to get a window seat or you wont be able to see your food very well.

I only wish I lived closer to this place. I only come here probably twice a year? But I've been coming to this place since I was little. My aunt had a bookstore across the street.

great place for kids.  If you have a bunch of toddlers or littleones, you can bring them without fear.  Once we were near a group of like six adults, and like 8 kids under 5, and everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs.  Still, the adults were having a legitimate conversation.  I like that.

The downside is that the pizza crust is a bit soggy.  And not so great if you don't have kids and don't like noise!

    Still, a great neighborhood staple.

It was a spur of the moment dinner thing.  The kids wanted Pizza.  We got a small 1/2 cheese with 1/2 shrooms and fish...the crust was awesome!!!!  I got the Chicken Piccatta with sauteed spinach and penne pasta really good!

The Servers were quick and friendly, only negative was that we had to ask for additional settings for the kids.

Did I say the crust was awesome...yes it was light, but bready

The kids were given pizza dough as early entertainment.

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie,
    That's amore...
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine,
    That's amore...
    Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling,
    And you'll sing "Vita bella"
    Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
    Like a gay tarantella...

A gay tarantella? No, I didn't see any Sicilian grandmas get up at Giorgio's and do a gay tarantella, but they do have the requisite red-checkerboard tablecloths and plastic vines traversing a ceiling trellis complete with little white lights (given the holidays, of course). It ain't Bacco... or Perbacco or Barbacco either... or Babbo or Becco for that matter. This is old-fashioned family-style Italian on a busy stretch of Clement, take it or leave it. Jamie W. and I were tempted in the past to try it but found ourselves more likely swayed by Q, especially since Giorgio's always looked packed to us.

Having just come from the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, we walked by just before 5PM, so it was nearly empty. So why not? We weren't terribly original with our order starting with a Small $5.25 Caesar Salad that was most definitely fit for two hearty appetites. There was nothing extraordinary about it except the Parmesan shavings were most abundant (see photo). For our pizza, we tried the Large $27.05 Everything, which was aptly described since it had pepperoni, salami and sausage along with all the other expected toppings.

Now here's where we strayed from the majority opinion. Bite a pillow, why don't cha? Neither of us cared for the thin crust since it was baked to a toasty hardness (...or hard toastiness) that made it taste more like flatbread. Besides, toppings were on the skimpy side. To Giorgio's partial defense, they say very clearly on the menu that they are willing to bake it the way you prefer, but we felt it was important to try the pizza as they are known to make it. We know better for the next time....unless Q's siren call lures us with their duck confit.

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool,
    That's amore...
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet,
    You're in love...
When you walk down in a dream but you know you're not
    Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
    That's amore!

FOOD - 3 stars...not our favorite pizza but they appear to be flexible
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...like it was Little Italy, paisan!
    SERVICE - 4 stars...friendly and not-so-Italian
TOTAL - 3 stars...maybe we come back, eh?

    Updated 2-8-2012:

I received an email from the owner last month offering me a coupon for a future use.  I appreciated his contacting me, and making the offer, but I still don't think I would go back.  It was still a nice thing to do.

And then I received an email today from a question mark head named Jaime S, who castigated me for my review.

    Hmmmmm.......................

    __________________________________________________ _________________

What a disaster ordering online from Giorgio's was!  When I reviewed the confirmation email, I realized that the order said pickup instead of delivery, and they had given me two salads instead of one. I called them to relay the changes, and the person on the phone had to get manager approval to remove the extra salad.  WTH?  Then my stepmother calls them to give them her cc number to pay for it, and they mention that it was a pickup instead of delivery.  She corrected them again.

So food shows up promptly, but we're missing our beverages.  The medium pizza was cut into four GIGANTIC slices, which was ridic.  The Mediterranean salad we ordered was turned into a salad with giant pieces of iceberg lettuce, broccoli, shitty tomatoes and a crumb of two of feta.  They showed up with the sodas about an hour later.

And then a couple of hours later they called my stepmother inquiring if she was coming by to pick up her order.

    Don't even bother.

Great food, ordered the Spicy shrimp and it was like a spicy seafood stew with only Shrimp, my favorite part.

The sun dried tomato pasta was great also.

We ordered two pizzas, a med cheese and a Greek on thin crust. Both pizzas were great.

Service was friendly and attentive, especially since it is 2 pm and they aren't too busy.

I would recommend this Pizza joint!!!

Ordered delivery from here today.  Got a medium Giorgio's Special with jalapenos, small Chicken Pesto no tomato sauce & a Meatball sandwich with a House salad no olives.  We ordered at around 2pm and our ordered showed up a little over an hour after.  Normal delivery time considering I live in Outer Richmond.  Now on to the food...

Giorgio's Special - I didn't actually expect the pizza to be this thin, but I should have know based in the pictures, reviews and a more careful reading of the menu.  The pizza was delicious.  The crust was a little tough, but I like my bread a little doughy so this didn't bother me at all.  Good topping to cheese to sauce to crust ratio considering it's thin crust, but if you want a substantial pizza go for the X-Large since I probably could have eaten the whole pizza considering how thin it is.

Chicken Pesto - I love pesto so I end up being disappointed most of the time when I order Chicken Pesto pizza.  Either there isn't enough pesto on there or the garlic hasn't fully cooked and roasted so you get that raw garlic taste.  Yuck!  But I enjoyed their pizza!  Nice pesto flavor and the garlic isn't overpowering.  Yum!

Meatball Sandwich - I didn't have this, but I ate the salad that came with it.  It's just lettuce with tomato and a pepperoncini.  Your normal house salad from a pizzeria.  If you can choose your dressing when ordering, please don't get the house garlic vinaigrette.  It was completely bland.  No flavor at all.  But the veggies were fresh so I was happy.

My only complaint about this place is that for some reason I can't order off of Grub Hub where I can get half and half pizzas (and a free 2 liter soda).  It says I'm out of their delivery area.  But I can order off their site which I find very weird.  It's be great if they could implement a way to order half and half pizzas.  If I got a Large or even X-Large it would have been cheaper than getting two different pizzas.

One more thing for you new customers.  If you wanna try this place, they offer 10% off for first time customers.  Great way to try a new pizza place!

I would've gave it 2 stars, BUT waitress spilled a whole cup of water on my wife and didn't apologize (the staff that cleaned it apologized for her).  Also, waiters and help staff almost ram you off your chairs and won't say anything about it.  Kinda like being in China town on a busy day, lol.  They let kids play in the isles, too, and when I mean play, they are swimming on the ground and having make believe time everywhere around the restaurant (I am very serious).

Other than that, I would call this American food and not Italian food.  Pizza crust was hard and tasted like cardboard, pizza sauce tasted like cheap canned tomatoes, raviolis were not so good and I couldn't taste which raviolis were meat and which ones were just cheese (not good).  My brother order a rotini dish and it was ok, not great, but not bad.

This is a neighborhood family dive with not so great food, but will tolerate your youngin's doing whatever they want and bad wait staff.  Pizza is poor at best or shall I say pretty damn bad tasting.

Please everyone stick to areas you know are good or go to somewhere on northbeach, BUT PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE.

Honestly, I wish I could leave a better review with this place but I just don't think I can.

I found this place on Yelp.  Reviews were good and so I thought we would give it a try.

We ordered online, which was pretty simple.  From there, the food came within 45 minutes or less.

The pizza was really greasy and the garlic bread was extremely garlicky...

Service was good, which is why they got 3 stars.  Price wasn't that bad either, but the driver basically demanded a tip at the door, which kind of sucked.

Either way, food was just so-so but if you don't want to go out, it's is an option.

This place has definitely improved it's food over the years, and is our current go-to pizza place for delivery or pick-up. The prices are reasonable, and the pizza is good. I really don't have much to say about it, it's not insanely good, it's not bad. It's how pizza should be. Same with the staff. I've never had a problem, but I've never had superb service. It's just consistently good.

I only gave 4 stars, because it is LOUD and packed like a can of sardines if you dine in. We took my MIL there last time she visited, and it was so loud, I was screaming in her ear while she sat next to me, and we gave up trying to talk to my husband & son across the table. They just screamed at each other.

They also won't seat you unless your whole party is present. This makes sense to keep the tables moving, but it can be a pain if someone in your party is parking the car or late meeting up. It's pizza, not fine dining.

But if you have a party of 20 7 yr old soccer players, this is the happening place to be!  Or if you have kids that love to scream at the dinner table, this place will probably be perfect for you!

Since birth, this corner has harbored my absolute favorite pizza. Always conveniently living within mere blocks of that gorgeous green awning, I spent my youth happily sitting below those fake vines and dusty grapes.

Came here for lunch around 1:30pm.  We were the only patrons at this time and we got dibs at the window booth (natural lighting makes everything look better).  The setting was intimate when we were there:  dim lights, red and white checkered table cloth, hanging flora with white bulb lights although I can see this place being a family sized dining establishment as well.

The menu is fairly straight forward:  Pasta and Pizza.

We split the carbonara which was a good move considering it fed us to the brim.  (BTW, bread with carbonara sauce is amazing).  I love a place that makes amazing and simple italian food.  I definitely have to come back for their pizzas.

Sad day.  If you go in to the restaurant itself the place is a solid 4 stars.

If you have them deliver, I can't say the same.  We live very close to the joint and should have not been lazy and went in to pick it up.  Our pizza came over an hour after ordering, cold and only after we called to see what was up.

They apparently didn't give the driver our apt number nor our cell phone number.

Tried this place the other night with some friends.

i was super excited and glad that they accommodate people like myself who cannot have dairy. I ordered a pesto chicken pizza with no cheese. It was good, but it wasn't amazing. It wasn't enough to prove to me that it was the best pizza in SF. It's average. However, I will give it to them that the crust was good with enough and generous amounts of chicken and pesto. And even better that they can make it without cheese.

I will however... eliminate an extra star for the server. We asked for separate checks and instead of kindly saying no problem.. she sighed under her breath and rolled her eyes at us as she grabbed the receipts. I have to say... I think my pizza would've tasted twice as better if my server had left her attitude at the door before she came in to start her shift.

Pizza was good tho. I will probably come back, hopefully not with the same server.

Owner was nice enough to contact me tonight (9/22/11) and apologize. I liked the food like I said... but I appreciate the owner stepping out and inviting me back for a better experience. I will definitely be back to eat again as mentioned earlier. And I admire the owner being attentiveness to their guests.

I have been coming to Giorgio's since the 1970's, as a San Francisco native. It has not lost its touch!!  Crispy thin crust!  Rich, homemade tomato sauce!  It's completely delicious and satisfying.  I will always love the Giorgio's Special, a meat-lover's delicacy.  (with fresh mushrooms)

If I had children, this would be my favorite family restaurant in the City.  As I was eating here tonight, I couldn't help but feel like this was probably the FIRST time I've eaten at a (non-Chinese) restaurant in this town and felt that it was truly a family-friendly, locals and neighborhood-oriented gem.  And mind you, I grew up in this City, so this is saying a lot.

What it really means is that this is a foodie town with a huge foodie scene, but not one that is necessarily kid-friendly.  The really good neighborhood places eventually become too well-known or overhyped and then are overrun by young foodies, and then they cease being hidden local gems.  The mediocre places stay mediocre and local - perhaps not exceptional food, but it's still good and reliable.  For the most part.  This place, I think, is a rarity.  It is a tucked-away, local gem that hasn't reached celebrity or household name status (think: Burma Superstar), nor do I think it will EVER reach celebrity status, but what makes it stand out to me is that the food is actually REALLY good.  Perhaps maybe even too good to stay hidden and local.  But that's alright.

As you're approaching the restaurant, the super strong, sweet smell of pizza wafts out of the place and draws you in.  When you walk in, you're greeted with the sight of cooks tossing pizza, those classic red-and-white checkered tablecloths, fake vines covering the entire ceiling and lots of little yellow Christmas lights snaking around the vines.  Homey, warm, cozy.

What you'll also notice is that the entire neighborhood is in here.  This pizza place is located in the Inner Richmond, and the patrons here completely reflect that.  There were groups of teenage Asian girls.  Lots of families with kids. Toddlers in high chairs next to senior citizens.  Older grandmamas and grandpapas.  Me and friend, two 20-somethings. It's all the neighborhood kids!

And then, there's the food.  Which is really good.  Tonight, my friend and I ordered a large chicken pesto pizza with garlic and tomato sauce.  It was absolutely scrumptious.  The crust was deliciously crispy and thin - just the way I like it! There was a respectable amount of sauce and cheese - just the way I like it! The chicken chunks were generous, juicy, and hearty - just the way I like it! And the drizzled pesto added that burst of basil love that I always need on my pizza.  Just the way I like it.

Service was quick, efficient, and friendly.  We didn't even have to wait at all, which is always great, and super appreciated on a Friday night.

I love that San Francisco is such a foodie town, but you have to admit, it's not the most family-friendly place.  There's always articles about how this town is becoming a kid-free zone because it's such an expensive city to raise children.  The plethora of amazing restaurants in this City, all those novel, brilliant places that me and my 20-something peers flock to, the ones that make it onto food lists and Yelp lists, aren't usually the ones that you'd bring a gaggle of kids to.  This place, however, offers pizza parties where you can make your own pizzas. And kids happy hours.  And, unlike places like Chuck-E-Cheese, that are completely catered towards kids and kind of inappropriate for adult gatherings, at Giorgio's, your momma, your poppa, your kid brother, your grandpops and grandmama, and even you and your friends can and will feel comfortable and satisfied.

And that, my friends, is what makes this place a rare gem, a diamond in the rough so to speak.

Oh, and the pizza's great too. :)

We visited here on a busy Thursday evening. We got a booth for 4 people after a 15 minute wait. They even "coat-checked" our baby stroller in the back. The service was great for such a busy place, and the pizza was even better. We ordered a sausage & pepperoni pie with olives and it tasted like pizza should taste. We had a great time and would recommend it as a place to drop in. The restaurant was quite warm, so go prepared to take off your sweater or coat if you wear one.

I literally just left giorgios and had to pull out my phone so I could write this. I was so disappointed in the service. Our waiter's name was Chris, and boy was he a ball of attitude. (and by attitude, I mean the bad, "I'm too good to be your waiter" type of attitude) news flash! You're a waiter. Your job is to wait on customers. after i ordered a medium pepperoni pizza, he got really dismissive, probably because he felt like i didn't order enough.

the lady that came to bus our table actually allowed us to basically bus our own table by waiting for us to hand her our dishes.

probably not going to go back, sorry giorgio's! i'll be off to amichi's next time i have a pizza craving!

I drove up to SF to visit a buddy of mine and we happened upon this little pizzeria since I was craving some SF pie. I've forgotten how dangerous parts of SF can be but I was reminded when I constantly heard police sirens every ten minutes or so while dining at Giorgio's.

The decor of this pizzeria is very homely and has amusing white christmas lights on the ceilings. But that's not what I'm here to review. I'm here for the food. The pies are kinda pricey so we ended up splitting a medium giorgio's pizza for 18.95. We added a garlic pesto bread sticks for 4.95. I was expecting a crisp bread filled with fresh garlic and freshly made pesto sauce. What I got instead seemed like someone's leftovers. Of course, that's sorta an over statement. Bread was a bit stale and the pesto was barely there. Where are my fresh ingredients?!

The pizza was akin to....how should i say...Little Caesars? I usually judge a pizza based on how their dough tastes and it doesn't seem like they put much into it. It was your typical run of the mill pizza with pepperoni, ham, bell peppers. I was expecting maybe a garlic butter crust...something. I guess my expectations were too high. I'd skip this pricey pizzeria and get me some Dominoes.

Giorgios has changed hands since I first started coming here in the 80s, but everything is still delicious. I love me some carbs, but I think the main reason I eat here is their wonderful salads.  Honestly there are few things in life as good as their dressings.  My dad even hoards the little servings they send with deliveries.  Tasty.

Visited here a couple of days ago - awesome food, service and atmosphere. Just got the online ordering pizza - exactly on time!! [ordered ahead] I have to say my fave Giorgio's impresses mightily.

We ordered two medium pizzas and a side order of garlic bread with cheese for takeout. I arrived about 5 minutes earlier than the 20 it was promised. The front of house/pickup area was crowded with employees, but the interior looked nice and cozy and certainly kid-friendly. Unfortunately, I brought only my debit card since I live down the block and they couldn't get it to work by swiping it through the machine. I asked them to type it in, but they said that didn't work either?!? They said that this happens sometimes and they would hold it while I went to the bank to withdraw cash (which I did using the exact same debit card).

Needless to say, the whole order was terrible. Bland toppings and hard chewy crust. I'm sure it was due to it sitting under a heat lamp for an hour and I should have asked them to re-make them, but they could have offered also.

This place is good for kids and adults with non-discriminating taste buds. Better pizza can be found easily (Escape from NY, Amici's, Orgasmica), so I doubt I will waste my time to go back and dine-in.

If looking for pizza, this isn't a good place. They do not make it easy to order ahead and do not make any group specials. Their wait even after sitting down is long. The place is packed with so many people, but the ventilation is really bad.

Came here around 3pm, when most other restaurants in the area were closed until 5pm. This place was a nice surprise. Their minestrone soup was excellent and everything was reasonably priced, especially the lunch specials!

Your classic Italian FAMILY pizzeria right down to the red checkered table cloths. Perfect place to take your kiddies (if you have them). If you don't, perfect place to listen to them whine and cry or squeal with pizza eating excitement.

Normally a pizza snob and only preferring to eat $15 nine inch Neapolitan style pizzas, Giorgios had me thinking twice. Their pizzas are perfectly proportioned with toppings, sauce, cheese, and crust. Best when eaten right at the restaurant (no takeouts).

    *Pizza not recommended without coca-cola.
