I think the main reason I enjoy this store is for nostalgic reasons. Not sure if anyone else will remember, but when I was growing up in the Halifax area there was a chain of small, cheap little department stores much like Giant Tiger called The BiWay. As child and young teenager with very little money to spend these stores were great, and I remember getting some great buys.
But I digress. My point is that Giant Tiger can be a great place to find some good deals, if you're not put off by the discount store, slightly- cheaper-quality atmosphere. In some ways it's like the Value Village equivalent of a department store: you may have to sort through a lot of stuff you don't want to find a bargain, but if you're willing to put in the time, you likely won't leave disappointed.
The clothes, like others have said, tend to be of a lower quality than at other places, and I generally haven't found too much to buy in this area, although I did find a great deal on yoga pants ($10 a pair) a couple of weeks ago. The food section is surprisingly better than you might think, as they have incorporated a section of fresh produce (I tend to stay away from the frozen stuff, but that's mainly because I don't like to eat frozen food in general). I have also found good deals in the toy section (scored a set of walkie talkies for my niece and nephew for $12 recently), and housewares and electronics.
In short: a lot of variety, cheap prices and good deals if you have the patience and the time to sort through the things you don't want in search of the things you will. -

personally i love shopping @ gt the new opening in woodlawn dartmouth sep 10 2011 will be a definite asset as it will be a more accessible store with " lots" of free parking
gt reminds me of the olden days shopping @ woolworth, metropolitan , and bargain harolds keep up the great work staff and sales however try to make sure on sale days that sale stock is out the day the sale starts and not the next day or so as this causes bigger lineups during my inquiry @ the checkouts i am a weekly shopper and just love it there :) -

Giant Tiger is a great addition to the Fairview area on Dutch Village Road. This is a great one stop shop for groceries as well as household items that you do not want to spend a fortune on.
Anything from cloths for the family to toys for the kids. As well there is a grocery section in the back of the store for both canned and frozen goodies.
Giant Tiger has great prices and always have great sale as well as clearance items up for grabs. Is this the location that you want to do all your Christmas shopping depends on who you are buying for but try it sometime as you will be surprised at what you can find. -

Remember that episode of the Simpsons where Homer is searching for a new TV and comes across such notable brand names as Panaphonics , Magnetbox and Sorny?
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Giant Tiger.
This place is full of mysterious brand names and knock off products that are as hilarious as they are sketchy. That being said, there are a few legit name brands kicking around the store.
There are occasional deals kicking around here if you're willing to sacrifice a little quality or have a little ingenuity. My parents got a really great set of curtains here and spiced them up with a little tweeking. They now look really great hanging in our cottage (Don't tell our neighbors).
Giant Tiger also sells a silly Slap Chop knock called Tap That Chop, which has provided me with a lot of jokes.
So this place isn't really that bad, there are a few quality deals to be had here and it might be worth your time. -

I just found the ultimate buy at Giant Tiger and I am so excited that I had to tell the rest of the world, (and conveniently I can because it's my job!)
An iPod dock at a typical electronics store will cost you anywhere from 50-100 dollars and even if you can find a cheaper one it probably doesn't have great sound. Well at Giant Tiger I found iPod speakers by HMDX audio that sell for five dollars. I can't vouch for the quality of this recent purchase, but I know I wont be disappoint at this price.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I'll start out by saying that my boyfriend loves Giant Tiger. His idea of a good time is being dropped off at Giant Tiger for an hour or so. He loves the deals and nothing suits him better than having plenty of time to sort through all the different departments in search of a bargain.
I, on the other time, do not. So generally, he gets to shop to his heart's content while I wait out the time in the car with my iPod.
Having said that, I can't deny that Giant Tiger offers great buys. For household cleaners, this is the place to head as savings are considerable over retail prices elsewhere. I wouldn't buy clothing and shoes here, as the quality is very poor but name-brand items are much less expensive here than elsewhere. I would tend to be a bit wary of their frozen meats, though; my boyfriend's father bought some frozen ground beef that was on sale and found it to be extremely fatty.
Giant Tiger is a great place to get to know if you're trying to save a few bucks. As a shopping mecca, it isn't all that - unless you, like I, are more fond of waiting with a good book while your partner checks it out. -

Giant Tiger is located on Dutch Village Rd, the old Shoppers Drug Mart by Dairy Queen.
Giant Tiger is great for the community, especially if you do not have a car.
It really is a small department store, they carry everything here. Clothing, shoes, housewares, baby needs, etc.
What shocked me the most was at the back was a food section, not just dry canned foods, frozen and fresh vegetables, milk, dairy, eggs, etc.
Prices were comparable, they had sales as well. A 4 ltr carton of milk was $6.00, that is a few bucks cheaper than a grocery store on a regular price.
I would not go out of my way to shop here, however for a local store, it is great.
