It's 2 degrees celcius outside and you say it's not gelato weather? It's never not gelato weather!
Even though my lips were purple and my fingers were numb, I had to had my fix. I ordered a medium (which, if you convert it to the United States sizing, it's really a small) with egg nog and maple walnut.
With it being winter, the choice of gelato was quite limited; there were only about 8 flavors to choose from, and all seemed basic. Not to blame them though... not everyone eats gelato in December.
The consistency is more like ice cream, at least for the egg nog one. The maple walnut was more solid and gooey. Both flavors were not too sweet, so you won't have to chug a bottle of water to dilute your saliva afterward. I wish both flavors could be stronger, which usually is what gelato is about - more density = more flavorful.
It's still a cute little place right on the water, and at least it temporarily satisfied my gelato craving!Listed in: My Dentist Likes This List, Caffeine + Sugar =…, Vancouver

There's something special about the places you discover on Granville Island. With all of the hustle and bustle near the market, a little bit of serenity is always welcome--especially when it comes with a delectable scoop of hazelnut (with espresso!)
Cozy chairs, friendly staff and the quiet shade of the Granville St. Bridge, this is my first and sometimes last stop off of the aqua bus and for good reason: Oh how sweet my chocolate/caffeine fix really is! -

I was sooooo excited to try this place, reading all the reviews about how good the gelato is! So when my friend's sister came to visit, I took her to get gelato here because she was craving it.
Sad to say that when she found a strand of hair on her first bite of her scoop, it went downhill. Appetite was lost, didn't want to get it replaced and I felt terrible. Knowing that their gelato is made in house, I'm wondering what type of food and safety procedures they follow.
On a side note, I saw that they had maple loose leaf tea so I got a tea latte, which was quite pleasant. The flavour of the tea was not overpowering with nice hints of maple with each gulp. A downer was that they did not have anything tied to the full leaf tea bag and a popsicle stick was inserted through, while the cup lid could not go on top...
All in all - I wasn't too impressed. I would like to come back, but don't think this experience will be forgotten. -

Really really nice Gelatos! the texture was really good and the flavor was precise. not too sweet, but just enough :)
Seems like they don't have a huge variety of flavors, which can be bad if you're looking for something in particular, however, for others it makes the whole "choosing" part much easier.
Bottom line: I like, it's nice :) -

Keiko, the woman who served us, was very nice and polite, repeatedly saying "Yeah, sure..." to our orders. She had even stayed open late to serve us.
Those are the positives.
The negatives are that the "gelato" tasted nothing like gelato and was, in fact, a fairly terrible ice cream. I'm guessing that since this business resides in a very crowded tourist area they get business no matter how bad the gelato.
The location is great, the employees are friendly, but the reason you're going there - gelato - is bad. Waste-of-money bad. Make-you-wish-you'd-gone-to-Dairy-Queen bad.
I don't know of a better gelato place in Vancouver, as this experience turned us off to trying more, but avoid GI Gelato. We did not try their coffee, so I have no opinion of that. -

Tucked away from the bulk of the Granville Island crowds, this Japanese run gelato cafe offers a small selection of housemade gelato. The flavours change regularly, but when available their rum raisin is one of my favourites. I'm surprised they don't need a liquor license to serve it! They make a surprisingly good latte as well and offer a selection of pastries (the ondi is very good - but not housemade) and sandwiches which are not bad in a pinch. They also have free Wifi if that matters.

My wife and I decided to try to watch the HSBC Celebration of Lights from Granville Island to beat the crowds. What goes better with fireworks than dessert? So we hit up GI Gelato. We ordered some chocolate gelato with a shot of espresso poured over it. There is an actual name for this, but I can't remember what it is for the life of me. What I do remember is that it was delicious! The gelato was really smooth and creamy and the espresso melted the gelato just enough without turning the whole thing into a puddle. It probably helped that we scarfed it down too.
