I suppose I went at the wrong time of day. For food they were only serving meat and for drinks they were only serving beer or wine. Beer was $9 and wine was $11. I went on monday afternoon so this could be why. The smaller patio, accessible from inside, was packed as it was a beautiful sunny day. The large patio had lots of room but no seats and less sun. My friend peaked into the VIP room and after grabbing a pen and some free pins, got asked to go back to the "regular people's" area.

The band started playing after we got there and it was some fun, upbeat German singing.

We didn't stay that long as it really wasn't that great and the novelty wore off pretty quick.

I feel pretty lucky about getting to the saxony house at a time with no line up so I'm giving this one a three.

I liked this better than ze German Fan Fest for a few reasons. First of all, you are in a lovely building in Stanley Park with all the spotlights and boats on the water, not stuck in a parking lots that has been turned into a bar with no heating. Secondly, the Saxony House has a full bar, so I was able to order a double rum and diet coke, as opposed to just beer. Thirdly, they had veggie options to eat, like buttermilk pancakes and apple pie. And finally, they have a VIP room as well as a room for average joe, so you may get the chance to meet some of the athletes being interviewed by international media. And I did! I met Kerstin Szymkowiak, the silver medal winner of the women's skeleton!

They had a polka band who sang covers in German, I almost shit my pants when they played Kenny Rogers' "Let your love flow." in GERMAN! Hilarious! The band was pretty rad, they were able to get people into the elbow-linking swing of things, and eventually it started to get sloppy, with people dancing in konga lines and clapping along. It was pretty much the most amazing thing ever!

My gripe, because  there has to be at least one, when I ordered my first double rum and diet coke, it was $9. When I went up to get my second one, suddenly it was $11, so I asked the guy wtf? why was the last one $9, and he said that I must have gotten a deal, and he gave me the second one for $9 but told me that the next one would be $11. Hi, I am not a foreigner, and I can understand that you are pretty much ripping me off. Not cool.

Went to the opening of ze German House to watch the Opening Ceremonies and it was an interesting crowd!  Very busy and hectic in two rooms (I believe the Lounge is for the athletes only) with two full bars.  They only had two items on the menu that night, but at a quick glance, the appetizers looked around $8-10, good portions.  The main courses ran about $20.

Very well organized, good service, and lots and lots of beer on tap with skinny steins to match.  Large flat screens TVs were everywhere to broadcast the Olympics.  I believe it's always free to go in, unless there's crowd control and then they might make you wait.

Went to the official opening of this house last night. A nice setting at the Rowing Club over looking Coal Harbor. Beer was $9 but is served in a glass stein. They had a range of food as well but I didn't eat. The entertainment consisted of a German band complete with an accordion. The MC was a quirky Indian guy who was apparently from Saxony. He seemed like a strange choice but was actually pretty entertaining and I couldn't help but laugh out loud a few times. A good place to grab a beer or two and watch events but at $9 a pop for a beer you better be feeling rich.

This place is so much better than the German Beer House which still has the price tag but serves sleeves in plastic cups for $9 and feels more like a rundown sports bar than a German House.

This was my first time going out to a pavilion during Olympics. The wait to get in was epic - like waste your whole evening in a line up epic. Fortunately members of our party started waiting at 5 so we only had to jump in line with them near the front.
The food was really tasty. The bratwurst was authentic and the sauerkraut was divine. They had plum cake that tasted like my Oma made it. We drank and watched events on the multiple TV's and the band played on. It was a lot of fun for the one thing we would be doing out and about during these Olympics. I heard other houses were good too, but I only have patience for one line up a year, and that was it.
