was brought here recently for lunch, and boy was I surprised! It's a small location, and was very quiet. I tried the lunch combo, and enjoyed a couple giant sized rolls with miso to start.. yes the service is a little slow, and forgetful, even though there aren't many people in the place, but if you want fresh and filling sushi give this place a go. The food quality will bring me back.

i was craving sushi for lunch, im always in the area saw this place wanted to try it. overall its ok.
i walked in, with only 4 other ppl eating here.
looked at the menu and its pretty pricey. so i went with a chicken box combo.  it looked really good but that was it, the teriyaki had no flavour, the salad was just lettuce, tempura was ok.  only one server forgot my miso. i had to wave her down to refill my tea. never asked how my food was.
    dont think Ill come back.

Avoid.. Overpriced and horrible service. Waited 30 min for food where there are only one other table. Rice was too hard zero flavor. They even turned off AC to save money and refuse to turn it on.

If I could give this restaurant 3.5 stars, I would -- it just is not worth 4 stars.

Came here today to grab a quick bite in between shopping errands.  Other than myself, there were only a couple other people in the restaurant.  Usually this would worry me, but the place appeared to be clean so I thought I would give it a try.

I was greeted immediately and was asked if I'd like anything to drink (I chose water).  The water was brought right away and I started looking through the menu.

The combo plates did not seem appealing.  They were priced between $10-$14 and I wish you could have gotten a roll & some chicken/beef teriyaki together, but you had to choose between one or the other.

I ordered a california roll and a dynamite roll (no masago).  I was surprised by how long it took to receive my order.  I waited almost 15 minutes for two rolls.

Once I received my food, I also had to ask for them to bring a small dish for the soy sauce.  PS the bowl was not even big enough to fit half of my dynamite roll!

The rolls were very fresh -- I definitely appreciated that.  The dynamite pieces were huge and needed to be eaten in two bites -- and of course, they would fall apart once you tried this! :(

The California roll was nothing special, but at least the ingredients were fresh.

I did find the rolls to be a bit pricier than most sushi restaurants.  This is what put me off because there was nothing very special to these rolls and they were not even plated creatively to warrant the price increase.

These two rolls came to $11.42.

Went to this place a few weeks ago while my dogs were at the groomers.  I am a avid fan of sushi and so I wanted to try this restaurant out.

It was quiet the day we went which was nice although the place is huge so we my have found a seat anyway if ti were busy.  My fiancé is not a fish eater so he had the yakisoba noodles with beef.  He really liked it as it was filling.  I had a California combo which filled me up without any problem.  The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that the Nigiri was not attached with wasabi so the fish didn't stick to the rice so well.

Overall I was happy with the service but the place was a little expensive compared to a few other places I have been.  If I am in the area and craving sushi that just have to have at that moment then I will come here but I will not go out of my way to do so.

It was time to try something different. We've overstayed our welcome at the regular eateries. So, a quick trip over the bridge led us to the new mall and associate restaurants.

Genji Japanese Restaurant is the focus of tonight's voyage, and it was a voyage.  We had a fair amount of food; I believe that is the only way to try a new place.

Salad was great and the dressing-- a vinegarette-- was made in house and excellent. We had gyozas that I felt were a little over cooked. The tuna sashimi was still a little frozen and the spicy sauce cost $1 extra, but it tasted nice and was obviously fresh.

The highlight was the Lion King Roll, where the presentation was beautiful and the roll was really tasty.

Expensive place. Bring money or a card with lots 'o room. ;)

I usually review restaurants based on five points: food quality, service, ambience/environment, value, and that spark, je'ne-sais-quoi, that sets it apart from it's competitors.

First, some background: my better half and I have been going to this place for over a year. We usually order take out and eat at home, but we have eaten in on a few occasions.

Food quality: I'd say high-average. We order mostly maki sushi (rolls) and very little sashimi as that is not to my man's liking. I have had a few slices of sashimi and nigiri, they were fresh and no little land-mines of wasabi lurking underneath the fish in the nigiri. Occasionally we order things like gyoza or spicy chicken balls. The gyoza are nothing special, but their spicy chicken balls are delicious, and happily they are mostly chicken instead of mostly batter. Their tempura is also excellent. Their chef's recommendation rolls are pretty good but quite expensive. One star!

Service: this is a sticky one for me. On the one hand, they are always vey friendly to us (probably because we've been good customers) and polite, but when we've eaten in, they've been slow. They have also forgotten to include things we've ordered for takeout which can be a pain. They often will include freebies with our takeout orders, which is always appreciated. Half a star!

Ambience/environment: the place is always spotless, which is very important for me considering that they're serving sushi. The place is nicely decorated. One star!

    Value: average. Half a star!

Spark: Not especially. They're not really doing anything special here, but it is a good sushi place.

So overall, yes I would recommend it to a person who wanted a quick and easy takeout dinner. Probably wouldn't seek it out as a date-night or fun place to eat though.

This was my first visit there today, after a co-worker said not to bother as it wasn't very good, and quite expensive.

And, I should have listened.  He didn't mention the slow service, but it is indeed extremely slow.

Even though the restaurant was 2/3rds empty, it took well over 15 minutes to get acknowledged.  Add in the fact you'll have to ask for items such as Miso Soup that comes with your combo because they'll "forget" to bring them to you.  You'll also need to ask for a drink, unless you're not thirsty, in which case this is your place.

The food is quite presentable, and looks nice, but oddly is nowhere near as tasty as it looks.  The fish was fresh, but the sauces used seem quite different than any other Japanese restaurant in the lower mainland, and they all taste the same.  Even the Miso Soup just wasn't as good as you'll find much cheaper at other establishments around town.

I'd suggest you look elsewhere in Market Crossing for something to eat, you'll find better (and cheaper) establishments.  If you're looking for a lunch by yourself without a drink here, be prepared to pay over $15.00.

Next time I'll go for the great Burritos across the parking lot, and save the sushi craving for Mega Sushi in Coquitlam.

Rolls the size of novelty dildos are not appetizing. Nor are chunks of sashimi the size of my iPhone. Maybe you're thinking "Hey, that sounds like a great value!" Yeah, sure, until you have to gag each piece down.

I went here for lunch with a colleague based on someone's recommendation. We ordered edamame, some tuna and salmon sashimi and two rolls. The edamame was fine. They served some miso soup on the house - that was fine. But when the waitress dropped 2 lbs of raw fish on the table... we should have just canceled everything else right then and there. But we didn't. We were too busy lol'ing at the ridiculously huge chunks of fish. Oops.

It'd be an improvement if they cut every portion in half. Then at least I'd only need to choke on the bad rolls for half as long.
