looking for a re-usable skin for your mobile device? look no further!

i found this company at macworld 2010. they had a cool, small collection to be had. the guys at their booth showed me how re-usable they were by taking a skin off and putting it back on multiple times - then having me feel the adhesive of the skin and the surface of the macbook. no residue at all on their macbook and the adhesive on the back of the skin was consistant.

they had a deal - buy 2 get the 3rd for free = $30! i was sold so, i picked up a few for my 15" MBP.

i just took off my "boombox" skin, to which i received many props on as i carried my MBP like i was carrying a boombox waist side, to put on my other "music inspired" skin "the soundtrack (to my life)". the one with the panda-looking animal eating a vinyl record with a turntable in front of it. very clean, artsy and a little dark. boombox skin is back on it's sleeve it came with and the skin did a fantastic job in protecting my MBP from scratches and keeping my MBP looking cool!!! =)

so, when and if you buy a gelaskin, keep the sleeve it comes with should you decide you want to switch it up and use it later!

their slogan? gelaskins, protection with style, not bulk.

I'm one of those douchey purists that has a separate device for each function - I'd rather have a camera that takes amazing photos, an mp3 player that sorts my music the way I want it to and a phone that makes phone calls than one device that inadequate performs each task - so I carry all three items with me.

The moment I get my mitts on a new iPod or laptop, I order up some complementary Gelaskins. The one that I have on my iPod Classic is called Boombox (https://www.gelaskins....)  and I have gotten countless compliments and questions about it. Every time I see a cool skin on someone's laptop (ubiquitous in today's work-from-café culture), it's always from Gelaskins, and the range of designs is staggering. This is a good testament to how versatile and varied their product lineup is.

Gelaskins are locally created and sourced right from The Junction and customer service is excellent. You can see them in person at places like Criminal Records or Future Shop but I prefer to browse through the hundreds of pages on their website since they stock all the designs there. Prices range from $15-30. You can also custom create your own Gelaskin and have the decal made for your device (any generation iPod/laptop/BB). I'm having a Yelp one crafted for my laptop and I can't wait to show it off!

The Gelaskins are durable as hell and the decal will basically outlive your device - I upgrade my electronics more often than my Gelaskins, and there has never been any damage to the surface when I remove the Gelaksin to resell my devices on Craigslist or other. The sticker is also easy and forgiving when you apply it. Quite honestly, one of my favourite local inventions!

These skins for phones and computers are the most unique and attractive I've ever seen.  I've purchased three so far, for my iphone 4, and loved them all.  They're easy to install, and good quality.  I've gotten tons of compliments on them.  The hardest part is deciding which design to get.  You can even have them make you a custom design from your favorite photo.

By far the best source for artistic, protective skins for electronics.  They offer a wide selection of modern and some classic (French Impressionists, 19th Century Japanese) designs and although the number of designs varies a bit for each device it's still quite a selection.   You'll find far more designs for iPods and iPhones than for laptops or for - and I was pleasantly surprised they had any - Apple's Magic Trackpad.

I'll be in Toronto next weekend, had already planned to visit the Eaton Centre and will make a point of stopping at the Gelaskins kiosk.  Strange pilgrimage.

I like that you can download matching cell phone wallpapers (use the full size file if you have a MyTouch 3G).  I'm looking for a laptop skin but you have to choose one that complements your computer lid color because a border remains uncovered.  It would be fun if the designs interacted with the Apple logo.  Photos online don't show a subtle diamond pattern on the adhesive that helps the elastic skin fit to size.  It took several attempts to install the Gelaskin but there's still a wrinkled curved corner.

The material is like a sticker version of those stretchy garbage bags.  There was no residue on my phone but maybe it was because we used alcohol to cut grease.  This doesn't protect the bottom or top of an iphone.  You can submit your own layout for uploaded images now.  This review doesn't include GelaScreens which cover the display.

I got a gelaskin (Cranes/Nanami Cowdroy) almost immediately after getting my iPhone a year and a half ago.  And guess what?  It's still in great shape!  The artistic designs on gelaskins are fabulous and I get plenty of comments on my cover.  J just purchased one for his blackberry and is also a big fan.

The only reason I won't give them 5 stars is that I've had trouble with their Gelascreens.  These are meant to cover the surface of the iPhone, but are a drag to put on and won't stay down in the corners.  Like most other screen protectors, they get air bubbles and pick up any dust particle that got in the way during application.  But the screen coming off on the edges... grrrrr.

A little pricey, but my gelaskin has kept the back of my phone scratch-free and is still going strong so I can't complain!

Hat tip to Sara L for spotting the recent addition of an actual Gelaskins kiosk in the Eaton Center. It's near the Hollister store, heading towards the Dundas subway station. They have quite an excellent selection. The kiosk is there to stay, not a Christmas only thing based on my conversation with the helpful fellow manning the booth Saturday.

As the photo reveals, they've added some skins for your Dance Dance Revolution button guitar joystick thingy for that game all the kids are playing these days.

I love Gelaskins and have skinned my iPod Classic, iPhone 3GS as well as my Dell XPS laptop. I get compliments on the skins all the time and asked where to get them. These skins are durable - all of my skins look as good as they day I bough them!

I prefer to browse their full selection on their website but I'll pop down to the kiosk at the Eaton Centre so that I don't have to pay their ridiculous shipping prices.

When I ordered my laptop and iPod skins a couple of years ago the kiosk didn't exist and the only shipping method that they use is UPS - which is expensive ($14.95, almost the price of one of their skins!) and annoying because if I'm not home to receive the package it ends up who knows where! I also wasn't pleased that they charged everything in US dollars on the website, but it's a Toronto based company. I'm so happy that there is a physical location I can shop from now.

I had to trim down my 15" laptop skin a bit, but luckily I have a paper slicer and a corner nipping tool that I bought for scrapbooking so I was able to round off the corners nicely. The skins apply very easily and leave absolutely no residue when removed. They are very forgiving so if you don't put it on straight you can easily remove it and reposition.

I love that you can download a matching wallpaper off their website.

When I purchased my iPhone skin at the kiosk I also picked up a screen protector (GelaScreens) since it was there. I should have done my homework first because I wasted $10 on it. Their skins are fabulous, but their screen protectors are NOT! They made the screen smudgy and created more fingerprints than just the bare glass on the phone. Luckily the GelaScreen protector removed as easily as the skins and I was able to throw it out and buy a better product at the Apple Store.

I would give GelaSkins 5 stars, but their awful GelaScreens product and their ridiculous online shipping prices knocks one off.

I was very impressed with the quality of the skins as well as the customer service.  I emailed them inquiring about future plans for skins for Blackberry devices and received a reply in under 10 minutes.
