Our 1st stop on our bar hopping excursion.
-GOOD music but no designated dance space
-$5 specials: Sam Adams beer, which my boyfriend got the very last one of and Twisted Tea, an alcoholic tea drink.
-Our bartender was cool and efficient
My favorite place of the night due to the good mix of people and the wide window offering a nice breeze and a nice view of people walking up and down the Gaslamp. Me and my boyfriend sat at the bar and enjoyed the good music and each other's company. -

Good service, decent food and no cover for UFC fights. Plenty of TV's so you have a good view from any angle.
My favorite part of this place is the outdoor seating at the bar on two sides of the corner. It can get crowded so get there early to get a good spot. -
Review from Alex G.
Stopped in for some dinner and a few happy hour beers. The place is relatively small, but has enough TVs so that you can watch something from any seat. I like the small outdoor patio/bar section, although I could do without the guy sitting there blowing smoke into the bar.
Tried the tomato/basil pizza for $10.95. Decent size, decent but not great pizza but that's to be expected at a sports bar. Service from the bartender was prompt and friendly, and I thought that $25 for the pizza and 3 pints was fair. -

I came here for drinks. They deliver. The music is hip hop. There is an out door area, that after midnight becomes smoking only.
-
Review from Nicole W.
Cute outside bar, but also where everyone smokes and tend to blow it in your face. ugh.
Groups congregate and try to "push" you out of your seat.
Staff was friendly, happy hour deals were good.
Definitely not a Friday night stop unless you like the crowds! -
Review from mimi p.
No cover- Can get pretty crowded... you can dance upstairs but it feels like a sauna..
There are tables and bar stools for you to sit by the bar area..
Drinks are $8-10.. Good music..
Overall good place to chill at with friends.. -

Great location, easy to grab a beer while passing though Gaslamp. The patio is great, it's like sitting on the sidewalk with beer.

We stopped in here before we went home and just wanted to check it out. There was a line outside even at midnight. The music was good. The sitting area is really cramped and the bartenders were slow. I don't know if I would go back or not. I don't think it was anything special and not really worth standing in line for this place.

That place will try to rip you off. Me and my friends were there LAST NIGHT. We had half Yagar and half rumblemens in a single shot and they tried to double charge us! The waitress tried to confuse us and I caught her in a lie and the manager tried to do the samething. It is a awesome place to watch the fights but pre-game prior to going here.

Review from Brian Y.
Chill spot to drink beer and watch sports.
I tried a "baby Guinness" here for the first time. It's a shot of Patron XO Cafe (the black one) with a bit of Bailyes Irish Cream on top. Sounds weird, but it tastes like you are taking a shot of a smooth coffee latte. Could drink those all day.
The bar is set up in a way that you are able to serve drinks outdoors and indoors. The outdoor area is gated off with no exit, yet they do not serve drinks outside. What gives? -

Been going here for years, seen people come and go. A great central-located bar in San Diego, an enjoyable spot for locals as well as visitors.
The food used to be pretty blah but has improved over the last year. -
Review from Susan L.
On the last day of my Labor Day trip we ended up eating here because it was so packed every where else! This is a great find though ....a good example to back up my statement is $4.00 Bloody Marys ! You can't beat that and they made the drink perfect!
The bar has these huge cut outs where you can sit outside but face inside so you have the best of both worlds! The weather was nice and my friends were smokers so we had to eat outside anyways. The atmosphere was really chill and laid back.
I ordered the Blat for $8.00 . Basically it was a BLT with avocado . That was yummy! We all shared the Skin on fries for $4.75 . It is served with Ranch dressing and for $1.00 more you can add some other stuff. We added bacon, jalapenos, and cheese . It was so worth it!
This place serves awesome cheap food! -
Review from Mary R.
Whoever thought to make an outdoor patio that runs alongside the bar was brilliant. Why don't more places do this?! The patio literally is a bar. And if you're lucky enough to secure seats it's prime real estate, especially on a rowdy Friday night when all kinds of riff raff are walking past. Fun!
The crowd here was very mixed, there was a Dan Conner look a like (http://cdn.mamapop.com...) and some rap star wanna be kids next to him and a too-dressed-up-for-here couple and mid-western tourists and girls night out and outside the bar a man looked at me and held up a tattered sign that said "Why lie? Need $ for beer" and behind him Hare Krishnas danced past and suddenly the 80's rock was replaced by a DJ and 90s hip hop...Dan Conner took off at this point...
Bartenders were really friendly and on the ball with replacing our drinks. It's not fancy, it's not shmancy, but it's a loud and energetic bar that you drop in on.Listed in: Bar Adventures

Seriously, if you're looking to wind down Friday night and the wkend, this is the place!
Unlike other places where it's just awkward to stand and talk, this is the exact opposite. The place is huge. Just grab a beer and chill, maybe even get drunk! =P -
Review from Priya B.
Love the bartenders and love the happy hour prices. I really liked being able to sit in the bar area that was half outside. The weather was amazing and we met some cool folks that were on vacation and wanting to chat.
The bartender recommended some sushi joints for us to check out. I wanted to get tank tops and t shirts and he was so helpful in picking out the perfect ones for me.
Definitely somewhere i'd go more often if I was local. -
Review from Kaity J.
Good location. Super easy to get to if you're staying in the Gaslamp District.
The food was okay. Just mediocre bar food. Nothing special; nothing to complain about.
The staff was okay. A little slow, but friendly enough.
The best part about the place was the cute little outside area and the open air feel. On a sunny day, it would be the perfect place to grab a beer and watch a baseball game.Listed in: I'm loving the vibe here., Best Happy Hour

My SO & I met up with my brother and friends in SD this past weekend. We didn't know the area, but my brother wanted to drink, so we found this place on Google Places.
They had specials for Mimosas! My girl friend and I enjoyed a few of these, while the guys had some beers and a Manmosa. Haha. Pretty much just a vodka and OJ. Great weather so we sat outside and people watched and chatted. The only thing bad was that there was a horrible smell, which they said came from the street, but smelled like day old vomit and they sprayed some nasty smelling spray under our chairs to get rid of it, but that smell was pretty bad, too.
All in all, a great bar for drinks, appetizers, and hanging out! -

My BLAT sandwich was amazing, and my fiance really enjoyed his Texas burger. Fries and onion rings were also good. Solid grub choices here.
Service was slow and "eh" at best.
And wow, they need to turn the microphone and amps DOWN. The performers were WAY too loud. I could hear them from the car, with the windows closed when I was circling the block to find parking.
Should have taken that as a warning. But alas, we had a gift card, so, I sucked it up and dealt with it.
This place would not be my first choice, but if I was in the area? Sure. -
Review from Alisa M.
I came here for lunch last week and I'm reviewing this place based on what I ordered only. At first I was a little disappointed in the very limited food menu so I just ordered something simple. The chicken tacos. Those suckers were humungous. Way bigger than I expected and I was completely stuffed. They give you two of them but I think I would be fine with one. But they were so delicious I ate them both. Along with the Widmer hefe I had a very nice lunch.
I checked out the happy hour prices and if I lived closer I think I would become quite the regular here. -
Review from Ruthie L.
I came here on my own while on vacation in San Diego. The band is what drew me in - a classic rock duo that was quite good. It's a pretty cool atmosphere too with the outdoor seating.
I had a Sam Adams that was very reasonably priced. Pricing is definitely a plus here. Their selection is pretty good for a sports bar. And I had the grilled chicken strips, which were ok, nothing special.
A good number of TVs, it looked like you could catch at least one TV from anywhere inside and outside.
Overall, I would say a good place to go before dinner or between dinner and your evening activities. Mainly for the live music and atmosphere. -

It's always nice when a bartender knows what a Michelada is. It's even better when they know how to make a good one. Not really the case here, but at least they make 'em. You can always give suggestions for improvement.
The portions are big and the prices are small. The bacon on my BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) sandwich was overcooked. Actually it was burned, but the intent was nice. The onion rings had a thin crispy batter, just a tiny bit greasy, but not sooo greasy that you don't want to eat them. I would actually say they are the best I've tried in a while, cause they didn't scrape the skin from the roof of my mouth (like Captain Crunch).
It wasn't crowed for visiting during the Lakers playoff game. There is a TV in perfect view anywhere you sit. I really liked how open the space is, the breeze flowed through.
I love, love, love Sunday drink specials; Beer, Mimosas, Margaritas. My type of place!!!
It felt like a perfect Sunday coming to Gaslamp Tavern. -

I am from LA but I go down to SD to visit family every month and I've been to this bar several times before and it was a chill spot to hang out until last Saturday 1/28/12 my husband and I were having a great time Downtown enjoying our night out with out our daughter, it was around 12.30 am when we got to this bar we weren't super drunk just a bit tipsy anyways we saw a friend we hadn't seen in years so we are chatting and we buy shots as we are getting our drinks served the lights are turned on and the bouncer is yelling "Last call, get the fuck out!" we took the shots he is standing in front of my husband saying again "Last call, get the fuck out" my husband tells him we will be out in a bit, he gets pissed and yells "you leave when I fucking say!" so by this time my husband is a bit confused last call doesn't mean get out does it? my husband tells him whats your problem? I'm not a lone the bouncer then says "Stop reciting" and grabs my husband and drags him out two more bouncers jumped on my husband and dragged him out! It was so uncalled for we called the bar the next day and spoke with Angela the so called manager she blamed my husband for the whole situation and didn't even apologize!! Don't go here do yourself a favor thanks :)

Nice little spot to grab a drink...
Prices are about half the price you would pay at a club.
$7 ketel one shots.
$5 draft beers.
They suggested mind-erasers - drank a few and I forgot where I was for a moment.
Lots of bar area since you can be served inside or out, through a waitress or not.
Plenty of TV's to watch sports if you wish. -
Review from James L.
Cheap mugs of beers (when football games are on) and a cozy upstairs area that gets you away from all the noise and allows you to have a conversation with who you're with (in case you're not into sports). I think that in itself warrants a 3-star rating. The waitress that was taking care of us was really sweet.
There seems to be other drink specials on different days of the week. Someone ordered one of their cocktail drinks but after a sip, it kinda just tasted like sugar liquid with little to no liquor. Boo.
Not sure if I'd ever be back if I'm hitting up Gaslamp, but it was definitely average for me. -

Solid bar spot in downtown. Food and drinks are cheaper than the surrounding area but the quality is just as good. Lots of screens if you're looking to watch a game. Daily specials.
Solid but nothing stands out about this place. I just end up randomly here sometimes. -

I've been known to make an appearance with my Pudgy here (for those who don't know who Pudgy is, he's my lizard, and yes we sit outside then people buy "Pudgy" drinks). Last night we -my friends and I, not Pudgy-stopped in after Christopher Titus and had a jolly ol' time.
Enough TV's to watch whatever games you want to tune into. Fast and friendly service, and they don't skimp on the booze.
The deejay was on it last night. The crowd was happy and making merry. Definitely a great spot in the Gaslamp. Prime location, bouncers without attitude, doesn't try too hard and just makes you feel good.Listed in: Thumbs Up

Kick-ass time here on a Saturday. Got the prime seat outside facing the bar. Waited on by Peter. What a great bartender! The food was delicious and the energy on the corner made for a great Saturday afternoon for us.

Had lunch here the other day, it was pretty good. I like that the restaurant is very open and airy. Lots of windows to see people walking by on the street and a good amount of TV sets to watch sports. The food was good, however, the portions were small...at least that was the case with the cobb salad that I had. I did not feel like it was a very good value for the price, but I will definitely be back for drinks.

The Gaslamp is the kind of place that you frequent to meet up with a crowd of friends to catch the game, and the simplicity of such is as refreshing as the beer served. Good vibe, friendly staff, and a really cool indoor/outdoor bar. The brew selection is fair, with a few seasonal rotators of above-average quality. Don't go expecting to be blown away by the outstanding service or cleanliness of the establishment, however - both are typical of this sort of place, at best. Admittedly the valet in the men's room seemed somewhat inapt as well, but that's neither here nor there.
Decent big beers for a reasonable price - simple enough and many as well as myself will take it. Come for the ambiance and the game for sure. -

The ROTD reminded me to thank you. As good as the service, drinks, and the eats, you really did have me at all of the HD plasma TVs that fills this spot.
A rare deal to find a true sports bar in a part of town that is surrounded mainly by restaurants and clubs. Thanks Gaslamp Tavern for mirroring to be what I saw on the outside to be as great as to what it is on the inside.Listed in: Slam dunks and fouls

I am not a fan of hanging out downtown... but the fact that this bar is downtown is not why I am only giving it 2 stars. Actually, as far as downtown bars go, this bar is not very "downtown-y." It is pretty mellow and not too expensive.
I have been here a few times... the prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. This would be a great place to watch a game. They have good specials and a lot of large TVs that face just about every angle in the bar, so there is not a bad seat in the house.
The food is ok... not bad, but not memorable. There is a lack of vegetarian options. Nachos, quesadillas, pizza, fries, or a side salad... that is pretty much it. No veggie burger, no vegetarian sandwiches or entrees. The fish tacos were pretty good, but not worth $9, considering they just come with a side of tortilla chips. The pizza was ok, but the sauce had a strong tomato paste flavor and did not taste very fresh.
My main issue is CANNED MUSHROOMS!!!! Are you effing kidding me?There is no excuse for canned mushrooms on a pizza... or in most disshes. It would be better to go without mushrooms at all. I had their veggie pizza about a year ago and it had the canned mushrooms. Went last night, and they are still using them... it is pretty gross.
Not on the top of my list of places to go, but I wouldn't be opposed going there if someone else suggested it... the nachos looked pretty good. -

Svedka Vodka... $6
Grey Goose... $8
Pitchers of beer... $12
No cover charge on a Saturday night
And it wasn't that crowded
Decent place for the 12 of us to congregate... I mean, drink.
... but a bathroom attendant for a sports bar with just a couple of stalls? Really?

Great place to grab a drink or 2 and do some people watching. It's in a great location on a street corner and on a nice day all the windows are open and there is a nice breeze that blows thru. Has the feel of being at the beach even though your quite far from any water. It's a fairly busy pedestrian street corner and the people watching is top notch. The service is really good and the prices are decent. They do have some pretty good drink specials. We were in San Diego one night and ended up going to this place 2 times. Next trip to SD we will go back for sure!!

In search of a place to catch the Lakers/Celtics game, the Gaslamp Tavern was the perfect place to stumble across.
While a little small, it does have both an upstairs and downstairs section which are studded with big screen plasma TVs. It's hard to find a direction where you're not looking at a TV. The bar has an adequate number of seats and there's even a small outdoor section in front.
Armed with a Guinness (actually several) and loaded nachos, this made for a perfect place to catch the game. It's not the cheapest place to grab a beer, but the food was good and the portions gigantic. -

Nice sports pub with a relaxed, upscale atmosphere. We popped in for lunch right after getting to town. Nice menu, fair prices, friendly staff and really good food.
Happy hour starts at 3pm (most other spots wait till 4pm).
We walked by here in the evening and it was PACKED!
