Review from Bong G.
Los Angeles, CA
I will always go out of my way to support local business', sole proprietors, "mom & pop's", etc...
The owner (can't remember his name), reaffirmed that practice -- and I didn't really have to go that far out of my way. He was genuinely concerned with my vacuum's problems!
I'm not mechanically inclined but, he was patient and kind enough to show me how to change the belt. He didn't try to sell me something I didn't need or complicate the diagnosis into a major deal. I paid for the part, and he was even going to "wave off" the service charge! I didn't let him. I will definitely be back. -

I have to start off by saying that the owner of this business, Leonard, is a genuinely nice man. A real mensch! His kindness shows through in the way he runs his business and treats his customers.
I called about problems I was having with two lamps that were not working properly. I had called another place. The owner of the other store told me I would have to leave the lamps in his store for a few days in order to have the lamps repaired. That place specializes in lighting.
When I spoke to Leonard, I explained that I would be without light for a few days if I had to wait that long for the repairs. Leonard was sympathetic and fixed both lamps that same day. The work was done within an hour, and for a very reasonable price.
As an aside, he has an awesome dog named Lucky. Lucky is a sweet and affectionate dog. He will greet you with enthusiasm and a waggly tail. Lucky will just melt your heart and make your day.
I am really glad I found this place. It is like the mom and pop stores our grandparents knew. Where customer service and good will meant everything. I would give Leonard a 10 if I could! -

I would never have found this place without Yelp, so thank you all.
Leonard is truly a rarity, an actual honest repairman. Took my Dyson in for an assessment today and within 10 minutes, he fixed a rattling part, lubed some joints, and cleaned the filters. The best part, he didn't want to charge me for the work! I offered him $5 for his maintenance job and we both left happy. If you want an honest vacuum repairman, this is the guy. -

I stumbled across Leonard and Garland Vacuum via yelp and was impressed by the overwhelmingly positive comments and high ratings. I took a beloved vintage lamp in for a new switch and my vacuum in for a long overdue tune-up. Like the yelpers before me, I found Leonard to be a genuinely nice man, as well as an honest and highly skilled repair technician.
The switch repair on the lamp turned out to be trickier than I'd anticipated, and basically involved reworking both the replacement switch and the metal shaft where it would be mounted. Leonard handled it beautifully and charged less than $20.
The cost of the work on the vacuum was also less than I anticipated, and most importantly, it now works as if it were brand new! -

I needed a belt for a Hoover vacuum. I called, just a couple seconds ago. He sounded REALLY nice, very knowledgeable, didn't need to look in his inventory if he has the parts I needed or not. Just right off the bat, knew exactly what I was talking about. Not to mention, this is my first time calling him, and haven't been to his store just yet. But I could automatically tell he's a great guy! I would definitely recommend anyone to go to Garland Vacuum for parts or inventory on vacuums! :)

I was about to buy a new vacuum because mine was smelling like burned rubber and not picking up trash. I went to this guy wondering if it was worth trying to save it.
I'm soooo glad I decided to go here. I have not met a more honest repairman in my life. Fixed the problem and it only came out to $7!
I definitely recommend going to him before throwing your vacuum out! -

This guy is old school in all the good ways. Knows his stuff, treats you like a new friend and guarantees his work for a year. I returned after the first repair cus it quit. Turen out that the problem was a completely different issue than the first repair but he still insisted on a free fix. Love this guy!!

Review from Sheri C.

While complaining about my cheap vac one day, a friend offered me her old Dyson for free. Now, it wasn't really "working" she said but she thought with either the warranty or some begging on my part I could figure something out. I figured it was worth a shot. I called Dyson and was told that they couldn't do too much since the machine was 6 years old. Hmm, what about a repair shop? They gave me the names of three shops near Pasadena - one being Garland. After checking on Yelp and seeing the MANY 5 star reviews I was sold.
I dropped of the vac one day and spoke to Leonard. He mentioned that the vac was a great "workhorse" and that he could easily clean it up. I asked about the price and he quoted me $69 for a total clean up which included changing all the belts. SOLD! I'm going to get a "new" Dyson for $69 instead of $500? I was all for it! I did ask that he call me if something "bigger" comes up so I could decide if it was worth the money. I did have Bed, Bath and Beyond offer me a $200 store credit if I returned the vac to them as well.
I assured Leonard there was no rush and I left. Maybe 3 days later he called and said that the filter needed replacing which would bump the price to around $80. Again, ONLY $80 for a new vac - sure! :) Again he inquired if I needed it soon and once again I told him no rush. Fast forward three more days (I think) and he told me the vac "looked like new" and was ready for me to pick it up.
I stopped by the shop the next day and he showed me the vac. He turned it on and also pointed out a few things I needed to know about the Dyson. I was elated! I always wanted a Dyson but just couldn't seem to convince the hubby to shell out the $$...now for $80 I had one. :)
Leonard happily accepted my check - which proves he is old school since I NEVER write checks anymore. But I understand - credit costs him money so I had no issue. He wouldn't even write down my license number - wow, I'm not used to a trusting shop owner. :) -

The owner is an absolute fair-play guy!
Came here with a broken belt, that runs the brush. I went to a few other places, and they wanted twenty to thirty dollars. I came here, and it was eleven dollars!

Add me to Leonard's fan club. I was having trouble with my 7 year-old Dyson DC07...after a few minutes of good but unsuccessful phone service from Dyson, they sent me to Leonard's shop. One look and he told me that it could be fixed and cleaned up with little difficulty. He fixed it the same day and for a reasonable price.
Leonard is a kind and honest man, and his dog greets every customer with enthusiasm. It made my day to know that the small town repair shop of days gone by is alive and well in Atwater Village. -

One of the best little businesses in the neighborhood. The owner is friendly and knows his vacuums. I brought in my steam cleaner which was ready for the dumpster but he was able to fix the problems and I got about another year's use out of it. I continue to shop here even if it's only for vacuum cleaner bags. Highly recommended.

This is the old fashioned service I have longed for. Leonard is clearly brilliant at what he does (he knew my problem immediately) and he treats his customers like kings. A wonderful personable man. I dropped my Dyson off for repair this morning and I felt like I was in Mayberry R.F.D. A fantastic experience.
I also give his beautiful old doggy five stars! -

Great local vacuum and small appliance repair shop. I've bought replacement bags for my Miele, and had a vintage lamp repaired. Fair prices, friendly service. This will be my go-to shop for future vacuum and appliance needs.

Leonard is old school and I LOVE that! You want quality work done at a fair price you need to look NO further. Support small local business like garland. Thank you Leonard for making my piece of crap vacuum like new, my house-keepers and my allergies are stoked!

I have been going to Garland Vacuum for over 10 years - with the same vacuum. Leonard knows me by machine and knows exactly what needs to be replaced - filters. I have cats and they shed A LOT and when mixed with using the machine to suck up cat litter, well, let's just say Leonard is personally responsible for extending the life of my vacuum!
Did you know he also repairs LAMPS? I happened to be in one day and saw a chandelier in for repairs. I've been trying to find someone to repair one of a set of lamps for MONTHS! I am picking it up from him today!
Leonard is definitely old school and is a pleasant reminder of the way people used to do business. May his business live long and prosper! -

Who knew a vacuum repair shop could be so worthy?
Who knew that a honest guy in a service industry - especially an industry where the power of knowledge is so out of your hands (car repair, etc.) - was still around and able to make a living.
Leonard, my hat is off to you. Thank you. -

While sitting at home in front of my computer, I turned to look for my cute, adorable dog to see where she was. I soon discovered that my cute, adorable dog was chewing away at my $300 vacuum cleaner's cord. I wanted to kill her. Thankfully Yelp had all the answers because I soon found myself calling Garland's Vacuum to find out if they can repair the damage my dog did to my vacuum. What seemed impossible to repair seemed possible after getting off the phone with the owner of Garland's. I immediately made my way to Los Feliz.
It took him less than a day and less than $25 to fix my vacuum cleaner. He even cleaned it for me free of charge!! I promised him that I wouldn't let my dog near my vacuum again. My vacuum is working better than ever now and it's all thanx to Garland's and Yelp. Oh, and he also fixes lamps, microwaves, and TVs. -

I totally forgot to add to the glowing reviews of this place after my visit a few months back. I took my vacuum in for repair knowing it only needed a belt. I didn't get any "alright leave it here and we'll call you when it's done" .. He quickly unscrewed the bottom panel, replaced the belt, cleaned out the brush and made sure it worked and charged me a ridiculously fair price. All within 5 minutes.
His dog napped through the vacuum noise. -

First of all - thank you yelpers for getting us in here.
Secondly - thank you Leonard for your kindness and great work.
Thirdly - thank you for the incredibly reasonable price.
Same as everyone else says. SO reasonable. SO quick (one day!) So lovely. Plus He's got a nice puppy in there. And since my dog is the reason our vacuum is a beloved member of the family, seems only fitting.
I love supporting these small shops! -

Didn't ever expect to review a vacuum repair shop, but this guy was so old-school honest I felt he deserved it. After talking to Best Buy about fixing my Dyson, which included a minimum cost just to look at it, I took the vacuum to Garland. He immediately recognized that it was simple fix (a little defect in design lets a piece rotate and kill all the suction), slid the piece back and sent me on my way. No charge, no hassle, and he even made sure I didn't feel too stupid by telling me that he sees that all the time and that it happened to him once too. Thank you Leonard, and Yelp for finding him for me...

Been going here for years. So glad to see that there are still Mom and Pop stores still thriving. The guy running this place is so honest and so friendly. He recently got a new dog from the pound (his previous one passed away sadly). Sincere and honest place. And he has fixed my vacuum cleaner and rewired some lamps. Everyone should go to him!

Like other posts here I too priced Dyson repair costs around L.A. For my purple Dyson. All were between $165 and $294, minimum of one week's time.
Garland?? $55. 2 days. And the guy was really nice.

Leonard and his new Canine, Lucky are the sweetest, most honest people in the area. It's a pleasure to do business there and the rates & prices of things are the Best. It's like going back in time because you're treated Royally as a patron. Also Leonard is a wizard with repairing things. If you have a dated vacuum cleaner or a vintage electronic, take it to Leonard for a free appraisal and chances are, he'll repair it for a pittance. Garland Vacuum is a Treasure!

Leonard is amazing. I'm so glad I found him through yelp and all the great reviews!
I have to add mine to the growing pile of glowing remarks.
My old Hoover Windtunnel had lost suction, and I had no idea what was wrong with it. I figured it was clogged in places I couldn't get to, but apparently there were lots and lots of little niggling issues with it that made it run less well than it should.
I paid only $26, picked it up next day and that included a new HEPA filter. It has actually never run so well! Even when brand new.
Thank you so much, Leonard!!! You will be my go-to guy for all my vacuum needs. (He fixes VCR's, too!) -

This is an old school neighborhood repair shop. I took a chance years ago because it is located down the street from my home. I would drive across town now that I know Leonard because his work is excellent, finished on time, and very reasonable. He's a good guy providing great service. When my ancient Hoover finally died I bought a new one here because I wanted to support small neighborhood business. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else! Give it a go. You won't be sorry.

.....this must be one of those last God-honest places left in all of Los Angeles - a city not necessarily known for it's scruples!
Thanks Yelpers for putting this place on the site! I wish more business-owners were like Leonard - keeping the light of priniciples and ethics going in business. -

Hats off to Leonard, the kindly gentleman with the poodle/terrier mix, who helped me today. My vacuum cleaner was quickly diagnosed and cleaned as I waited. Unbelievably efficient, honest, and professional, Garland Vacuum Sales & Service is a place you should go to BEFORE buying a new vacuum cleaner.

Leonard is one of the nicest humans! He has a lovely dog that greets the customers. This man can fix anything and he is beyond scrupulous. One visit, he fixed my vacuum on the spot for $9. My next visit, he showed me a mechanical issue on my dyson and didn't charge. Definitely worth the drive. He will repair your vacuum good as new. He even told me not to replace the belt for at least a year. He is very ethical and pleasant. Yelp keeps removing my review for some reason but this place was worth the time to make sure his feedback is spectacular as is the customer service!

Leonard at Garland's vacuum knows his business. He used to work with his parents, who owned the shop for 50+ years, and now he has taken over the business. I took my 4 1/2 year old Dyson DC-07 to him as it wasn't picking up as good as it used to. Leonard changed the belt and cleaned it up for a very reasonable $65, which he quoted me when I dropped it off. He had the work done within 24 hours. The Dyson is like new - I couldn't be more delighted. I would highly recommend Garland's to anyone. Be sure to stop by Intelligentsia coffee while you're out that way!

Today was my first time. He was very honest and professional and timely in fixing my vacuum. I am so glad to find such a nice guy. I went to other places, they wanted to charge me 5 times more to fix this vacuum. I am sure everyone would be happy with him as I am
