OK, I'm a drinker, so as much as I like food, my star rating relates to drink prices, real bar staff and some food special pricing only. I like the staff, but I'm a patient person and an amicable drunk. This place fits with who I am, but I'm sorry, that won't mean much because you probably don't know me...
Beer selection is okay, no fine ale, just simple selection. Sapporo, Okanagan original, pale, 1516... um, others along the same lines. But at $4 a pint (not UK size unfortunately) it's pretty good. $4 for basic shots, $3.50 Jagger shots and daily martini special, its pretty good.
Food is OK for the price, but time with appy special prices, food seems to become much better. Nothing on the menu is bad, just mostly uninspired. Nachos are lame for the price, I'd suggest to stay away.
Want to get drunk with a lover and nibble on appies in a dark corner? Want to watch sports with buddies, and drink? Want to have a server who is a real person? Want to drink ten pints for less than $50? I sure do!
Credit or cash, no debit.  Their Atm charges up the bum.

I've been to gargoyles twice.  Once on a first date and once later with a friend and I found it to be very hit or miss (see also: my dating life).

The time I went with a first date was great.  And not because I had swoony goggles on, because I assure you I did not.  In fact, just the opposite.  While there I ordered the edamame (which I promptly inhaled, literally...I inhaled and almost choked on a soybean, true awkward story) and it was delicious.  But I mean, can you really screw up edamame?

My date ordered the drunken prawns, which were delicious (his crowning moment, he was a sharer).

So, minor choking aside, the first date...er...visit...to gargoyle's was great.

And then I went a second time...

My friend and I split the artichoke flat bread and it was pretty good.

I got a pulled pork sandwich and my friend got the grown up grilled cheese and both were sadly sub par.  Her sandwich was more cold cheese than grilled which in theory is fine, I mean who doesn't love cheese?  But if you get a grilled cheese, it should be supremely grilled and deliciously melty inside...and it was definitely not.  My pulled pork was probably the worst I've ever had...and I love my pork...pulled.  The bun was meh., the coleslaw was meh. and the pork (and sauce) were borderline flavorless.  If it hadn't been for the sparkling conversation of my friend, the experience would've been the pits.

That being said, I have a feeling that if you are a drinker and come for the specials, this place is great.  Sadly, I'm no longer a drinker so I didn't have that to take my mind off the often sub par food.

Finally, the online menu doesn't perfectly match the in-house menu (and no I don't mean design), I mean actual menu items.  Which can be really irritating since the second time I went there it was for a specific item that had simply disappeared from the menu.  Note to all restos:  Keep your website updated!

This place is a great place to get together for some drinks with friends.  They have pretty reasonable prices, especially if you go off the daily specials here.  And their 4 for $12 shots--who can beat that? The Apple Pie shot is pretty tasty.  The nachos are pretty good too--good amount of cheese, salsa, guac..  I hate when other restaurants skimp out on these things.  The other non-special shots are about $6 each.

I would totally go back for more good times to be had!

On Sunday, my sweetie and I were wandering.  We became disoriented and somehow found ourselves in a strange environment.  We were approached by a human-like figure who was carrying this shiny disc-like object.   She spoke to us and we somehow seemed to understand each other.  She disappeared along with any real concept of time passing. Time stood still.  Minute after minute disappeared with no explanation..... nearly an hour passed and we had no recollection of anything.....

    ALIEN ABDUCTION?!?!?!
No, sadly just the worst possible service ever.  We ordered the simplest items from the menu thinking they'd be the safest bet.  My honey ordered Soup & Salad.  After great delay (probably 45 minutes),  he received his Soup & Sandwich. Practically the same thing...!
My pasta, which was "made from scratch" thus delaying the entire meal, was a chicken with penne in a cream sauce with sundried tomatoes, garlic and olives.  It was the Pasta Du Jour..... "Which Day????? " I wondered.

The rest of the patrons of the establishment were crowded  around the bar.  Chances are that would be the only way you'd get noticed and served; by stalking the server....
The food, while of acceptable quality and taste, was ruined by the delay.  Our mood had soured while waiting and was further ruined by having our server make lousy excuses for the service.  I would have respected her more if she had said "I am sorry, I EFFED up" but to treat me like I"m stupid is really pushing my patience.

    Will not return.

Previously called Lou's, Gargoyles offers weeknight drinkers a dark spot to hang out and people watch. The nightly drink specials offer well-priced options, ranging from Long Island Iced Teas to beer and Caesars.

The food is pretty standard. My cheeseburger really lacked the meaty bite I like in a patty, and the pizza margherita was no Italian classic. On the upside, our service was prompt and the other patrons provided some debauched entertainment.

We only visit Gargoyles on an aimless wander, it seems. As it's one of the last options close to our apartment, Gargoyles falls into the here-or-Jeremiah's category.
