I'm new to the city, and live 2 blocks from Garden Corner Cafe. I've only been in Vancouver for a week and I've already been to the cafe 4 times! It's a fantastic atmosphere - the staff are wonderful and they make the best panini's around! I'm a huge cafe person and I've tried probably 25 cafes in Vancouver already, and this one is my favorite. Check it out if you're in the area - you won't be disappointed.

Garden Corner Café is close to being a hidden gem. At the unlikely coffee-shop spot that is Arbutus and 11th, they serve up standard café fare in a bright atmosphere.
I had a bit of trouble ordering a decaf and so opted for a dark roast instead. The resulting cup of coffee is one of the strongest I've sipped in a long time. Hot and strong coffee? I'll be returning for more!
On my visit there was still a fair bit on construction (road and building) happening in this stretch. The concrete dust and hammering detracted from what on a quieter, sunny day would be a lovely spot. Large windows look out onto the traffic of Arbutus and the quiet of 11th.
But if the construction is still happening you can always wander down the garden-filled two blocks of West 11th to Connaught Park near the Kits community center and enjoy the sunshine outside.
