Review from Violet P.
I went back recently to try a bowl of beef brisket noodle soup. It was about a 7 minute wait and they brought out the bowls to our table. The broth could have had more taste, but I liked the noodle, beef, and veggies. There were about 7 large pieces of beef, and they weren't all fat like at some places. I appreciated the Chinese greens too. They also offer take out which seems to be popular with mall staff.

Got a vanilla butter cream cake, it was dry, bland and no vanilla taste I took one bite and tried to do another, ended up tossing it in garbage. It looked really good.

The basics have been covered already, so here's what I like about this bakery.
It smells soooo good. I mean, bakeries smell good, but this one smells extra good.
A lot of their cakes sold by the slice are the same cakes you get in restaurants, only they are significantly cheaper (around $3-4 instead of $6-8 in a restaurant). I was very excited to learn that one of my favorite desserts from a restaurant I frequent was available here. -

This bakery is the closest thing the west end has to the cute Asian bakeries downtown. The smell is amazing every time you pass by it.
They offer rice cakes, various buns, egg tarts, breads, cakes/pies, and my favorite... fruit tarts! They're so good... the sweet fruit on top of creamy custard in a buttery, crispy shell. They even make wedding cakes and birthday cakes.
The weird thing is that they are actually located in one of the deadest parts of the mall right across the gym. A bakery in front of a gym... Hmm.
Random fact: their water bottles are actually pretty decently priced.
I believe they are moving to another part of the mall soon, somewhere near the dollarstores.Listed in: 30 Day Yelp Challenge

I discovered this small Asian bakery in a corner of the mall near HMV and the Scotiabank Theatre. The pretty tiered wedding and Christmas cakes in their display windows were what caught my eye. Inside, they have cases of fresh baked goods that you can pick yourself. You just grab a tray and a pair of tongs, make your selection, and take them over to the counter to pay. Most of the treats are what you would usually see at Asian bakeries in Chinatown, like the Hong Kong or Garden bakery.
As I was deciding what to get, there was a little girl going around the shop, dispensing clean tongs into the bin and picking up the trays. I think she was the daughter of the lady behind the counter, so this may be a family-owned business. Anyway, it was really cute.
They also have mousse and fruit cake slices, fruit tarts, and ready-made cakes behind glass cases at the counter. Because it was late in the day, around 4pm, there wasn't much of a selection left. I went for a simple egg custard tart, as these are one of my favourites, and my boyfriend got the napoleon. There were little iron tables outside the bakery, the fancy ones you see in people's gardens.
My egg tart was alright, I liked the custard but there wasn't that much of it. My tart consisted more of the crust. My boyfriend really liked his napolean though. I managed to steal a bite before he gobbled it all up. It was a lot better than mine, sweet, creamy and flaky all at the same time. Why does he always pick the better stuff?
They do weddings and birthdays, and have many special holiday cakes too. I don't think too many people know about this place yet, seeing as it's practically in a hidden area of the mall, which is too bad, because it's really a sweet little bakery. -

I stumbled upon this little Asian bakery by complete chance the other day. It's a little bakery hidden away in West Edmonton Mall. They specialize in wedding and birthday cakes but will do cakes for other events too.
I loved looking at all the different cake designs in the windows. They looked incredible. You could tell that they were made with care and precision.
Inside they have a bunch of little desserts to eat at one of the tables that surround the store.
I didn't really get a chance to look at pricing because I was so distracted by all the sweet, yummy goodness all around me.
I was impressed by this little shop though. They looked like they really had a good business going. Everything was clean, it smelled amazing, and you could tell that a lot of effort went into everything that they made.
Baking isn't easy; it's A Piece of Cake! -

Whenever I am at West Edmonton Mall, I make sure to stop by A Piece of Cake bakery. This place sells simple and delicious baked goodies such as buns filled ham and cheese, red bean paste or a cut up hot dog; little fruit and custard filled cakes; coconut buns and rice cakes. Also, this bakery creates beautiful wedding cakes which you choose from the catalogue, but I have never used this service.
Just like at any other Asian bakery in own, A Piece of Cake is a self-serve bakery, meaning that you grab a tray and tongs, and pile up as many or as little baked goods as you like, and go to the counter to pay. To get a slice of a pie or a cake, you need assistance though because they are displayed under the glass and only sales associates can reach them.
Everything I have tried at A Piece of Cake was delicious. Most of the treats are very inexpensive, and make a great "treat on the run" : )
Ironically, this bakery is located right across Gold's Gym where people sweat out calories, and here you are, enjoying you cake or ham and cheese bun (or two).
